RIM, the 5th boss and in such a short time. Someone actually checks your history? *:o *Have a good day running the show!

The fire situation here might be slightly better because the wind is shifting. It's the #1 fire priority in the nation and the largest fire ever in this state. For us, the smoke isn't a problem this morning because of the wind direction. It's all hanging over Denver instead. Of course this isn't the only fire. We still have others underway too.

Good Morning all: Terri I don't know if you smoke, but your state sure does. I forwarded an e-mail immigration alert to you in hopes you can get it posted. I haven't yet figured out how to do that - something about starting out with computers when you are past 60. This one lists all of the members of the Judicuary Committee that can be contacted by our members. You will notice that it is being sponsored by our 'gay' congressman, Barney Franks.

See where the homicide bombers are still going after children, and Arafat wonders why the Israeli's won't recognize a Palestinian state.

Hope all of the fires get a good dose of rain.

Terri, glad the wind is blowing away from y'all. Heard 30,000 people might get evacuated today from those areas. RIM, you gotta make work fun whatever way you can. You will have to teach me sometime about the erasing history thing; it might come in handy sometime. http://gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

One important thing to note in the bombing is that no one was killed because it was an armored bus. I saw an ad in a small local paper to donate funds to Israel for armored buses for school children. That innocuous ad really hit home this morning. Regarding Al "Pedillo" Muhajir, one must wonder how many other dirty bombs or similar are being planned around the US. Also, if citizens are being subverted to becoming Moslems and then becoming terrorists, how can one track them, say as easily as non-citizens? This is just like the kid who was training with Al Quaeda that they found last time. If you consider that terrorist groups have a target audience of any US citizens who are extremely dissatisfied with our country or are just p*ssed in general, that is an awful lot of potential people to convert.

RIM, I missed something, is it you that are running off all these bosses or is it the extreme working conditions? Why don't you become boss, at least until you retire in October...

About our citizen dirty bomber, his name was Jose Padilla before he became Abdullah Al Mujahir. He lived in Chicago and Florida. His name could just as easily have been Joe Jones and he could have been of any other heritage. Scary stuff.

I guess the other 71 precent also beleive the war on terror is over with. Then again they maybe the majority of Americans who do not think *

Super fire is a designation they give to extremely bad fires I think. I heard the term earlier but I'm not sure if it applies yet or not.

Regardless, it's very, very bad. It's turning south again now and more and more people are being evacuated. One of the big problems is large animal evacuations. Horses, cows, llamas, goats, pigs, you name it. There are donkeys, mules, and even one zebra donkey cross. :o *People have come with trailers to help evacuate them. All the fairgrounds and sale barns have been opened to them and others are donating hay and other feeds. People are so good when something like this happens. *

There is no containment. Places I've known for years are gone but then there are miraculous stories too. There is a tiny little town of about 12-15 buildings called Trumball that's going to make ational news at some point. It's on Gold Medal fly fishing water, the South Platte River. They have their own volunteer FD. The FD refused to evacuate. They said they would save their town or go down with it. The authorities tried everything to get them to go even asking for their dental records, but no, they stayed.

They had their hoses in the river wetting down the houses and the fire was just over the hill. The fire split and went on both sides of the town. All of Trumball was spared. God does help those who help themselves.

RIM, you are right about the VanDamm child. The parents had an open marriage and were into drugs and the trial is dwelling on their lifestyle. http://gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/dead.gif *I thought there was some kind of tracking on purchases of ammonium nitrate. :o

Did any of you hear that the dirty bomber bears a remarkable resemblance to the "John Doe" in the OKC bombing? Probably a coincidence.

Hi SueElise, I think there have been lots more America haters created by the left than we realized. The screaming is starting by the left. There's one on Hannity right now hollering, rights, rights, including the ninny Colmes.

Oops, this got too long. http://gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sulkoff.gif

06-11-2002, 09:21 PM
Terri, That is really terrible. How many total contiguous acres could this fire expand to before it eventually ran out of places that were able to be burned? In other words, are there any natural boundaries, like major rivers or non-forested plains that eventually would likely stop the fire from spreading in a particular direction? More importantly for now, is your area out of danger from virtue of the fire being past, or is there still a threat to your home? Have they tried to build a fire "line", i.e, burn a swath in front of the area the fire is approaching beforehand so it has nothing to burn when it gets there? I know that for uncontrollable fires in Florida, they often do this....

On a lighter note, does anyone know why someone would cross a donkey with a zebra?

Terri
06-11-2002, 09:39 PM
There has never been a threat to Colorado Springs or my community from this fire. It was just the smoke. *If it should turn east it will come through several fair sized mountain towns. It's roughly 35-40 miles northwest of Colorado Springs now.

Really, there isn't anything big enough to stop it in any direction. It's jumped rivers, highways, everything. To the west there is a humongous open area called a mountain park but it's grassy. It isn't going that way though. It's burning into forested areas. Much of Colorado is National Forest and this is burning in the Pike/San Isabel forest.

A large part of the problem is the burn policy. Natural fires are not allowed to burn and the underbrush and downed trees are everywhere. And of course now we are so highly populated. This is a tough thing but the forest will come back healthier for it. Of course that's after they fight the erosion and reseeding.

Anytime, Der Alte. I just recently signed up for it and had that one but I hadn't read it. It's good you told me.

06-11-2002, 09:43 PM
I guess I shouldn't complain about the ecological burning they do once in a while at the forest near my home, then (Myakka State Park). It must be to keep an actual fire from doing much damage. Wish I had seen some of those parks in CO before this....never been there.

Your convention sounds really interesting. We have some stories on it posted in the Activism Forum.

Floridaguy, Colorado is huge. The most spectacular areas are still untouched. Cross your fingers. The area that has burned is along the front range in Ponderosa Pine. It's pretty and it's great country but not the treasured areas except for the Gold Medal river. This will change that.

Hi Everyone!

Well, today was the hottest day so far. With the humidity, I just heard on the news that it was the same as 39 C or 102 F!!! That's H-O-T!!

I've been enjoying watching the World Cup!

I found this cool or maybe I should say HOT link on the "ecology" of fires. *It's interesting, about forest fires. *The hard part about forest fires is they never stay in the forest!

Hi Aberfoyle! *That is really hot. Do you have AC? Funny that most of us don't watch soccer or care about it and almost the entire rest of the world does. :o

lpara, that's an interesting fire link. We went to Yellowstone the year after the fires and it was fascinating. It will be here too. We've gone through the previous fire areas here and we'll check this one out as soon as we are allowed. It is a natural cycle.

I think we saw really small areas in the forest that were burned out when we were in CO 2 years ago. *Just stumps but green all around it. *I might cry if it's all Aspen trees burning--they are so beautiful! *But back to really important issues--I hope most homes can be saved. *That's neat about that town. *We were only about 1 or 2 hours from Denver. Twin Lakes--Desperately BEAUTIMOUS!!!

It's hotter in Canada than in NC!! *WOW! *I thought we were the hottest place in the WORLD!

I saw the bomber in Israel was a girl again--I think I read that on the Washington Times site. *Pathetic and Pitiful. *Parents can't REALLY love their children and send them off to bomb themselves and others!http://gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/shake.gif

Good Night--Have a good Rest and come back all CHIPPER tomorrow!http://gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif * *

lpara, Twin Lakes is very beautiful. It's quite a bit west of our large fire and south of the other one. Of course it's very dry there too.

Know what, it's raining!!! http://gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/yelclap.gif*Here, I don't know if it is on the fire. It's a pretty good thundershower though. Every little bit helps and I wish we'd get a long soaking rain for a week.
