SOS Powell is still in Israel although he has postponed any meeting with Arafat. It may take place on Sunday.
Today is the anniversary of Thomas Jefferson's birth on April 13, 1743 *There is a very interesting fact about the day of his death. Does anyone know what it is?

Re: Thomas Jefferson
Died ~ July 4, 1826, Coincidentally, John Adams also died later that day. Thus the only two signers of the Declaration of Independence to become president died simultaneously, on the 50th anniversary of that great document. Jefferson designed his beloved Monticello. He even designed his own tombstone.
Got this information at a very interesting PRESIDENTIAL TRIVIA (http://www.freep.com/news/inaug/trivia/index.htm) site.
Yesterday was another sad day in Israel. I just don't see how this can be resolved as long as Arafat is in power. :turquoiserolleyes: And Powell isn't helping matters one iota by appearing to pander to Arafat. After yesterday, he should have packed his bags and left for home, post haste. http://gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/twocents.gif
Will be going to Sebring this morning to have "brunch" with Sabre. Do I need to take my "lampshade" along? http://gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mdr11.gif I didn't think of that yesterday when we were making plans to meet. Since we're meeting in the lobby of WalMart I could have borrowed a lampshade and sat there with it on my head. Then again, it might not be such a good idea - they might cart me off to the looney bin and I'd miss brunch. I'll report back this afternoon. http://gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif
Have a great day.

Yassar Arafat has issued a statement.
"We strongly condemn the violent operations directed at Israeli civilians, especially the latest operation in Jerusalem," Arafat said in a statement carried in Arabic by the official Palestinian news agency WAFA.
He also condemned "the massacres and slaughters committed by the Israeli occupation forces against Palestinian civilians and refugees in the city of Nablus, the Jenin camp and against the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem."
Fox News says that he did not read it himself but it was read in Arabic by one of his people.

So, what effect might Arafat's statement have on Powell? It doesn't impress me much.
RIM Yes, it's amazing that Thomas Jefferson and John Adams both died on the same day and that day was July 4th.
We'll be waiting for your report on your brunch with Saber. I'm jealous.
It's going to be a nice day here so I think I'll be out digging around in the yard. It's still too early to plant much of anything but there is plenty to do out there.

Good Afternoon All!
Well, I met with Sabre for brunch and we had a wonderful time. *I didn't wear the lampshade and somehow she snuck by me at the front door ~ but she had me paged and it was like I already knew her. *She is a beautiful, witty and fun lady and we talked, and talked, and talked.............. *When we got to IHOP where we had brunch it was packed, but by the time we were ready to leave it was almost empty. *A waitress was kind enough to take some pictures ~ (Terri ~ check out the T-Shirt);) *

Terri ~ I don't believe for one nanosecond that Arafat means a word of what someone else is saying for him. *I wouldn't believe it if it came from his own mouth. *You just don't do a 180 after years and years of brainwashing and planning for destruction. *This ain't over yet. :turquoiserolleyes: IMHO!
Hi Aknauta ~ wake up and join in. *What's the temp in AK these days? *Have you had your two days of spring yet? http://gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mdr11.gif

RIM! What a neat picture! You gals are looking good! I love the T-shirt and I'm so jealous that I wasn't there for the conversation. http://gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sunflower.gif
Really, I just can't imagine that anything can come out of this Powell/Arafat meeting. However, I was told earlier today that I'm just not giving Bush enough credit for his plan. I hope I'm wrong. I really, really hope I am.
Aknauta! I hope you will tell us all about the precinct caucuses.
The Democrats had a conference in Florida today. Gore was there in one of his incarnations giving a speech. Yada, yada, yada......

Primrose, can you tell me how you got your picture into your post, I like that idea.
