In strange news: a man in Japan stabbed another man to death with an umbrella because he wasn't addressed properly. This is the second umbrella killing within a month there. I certainly hope they plan to register these deadly umbrellas and keep them off the streets. :o

I've been thinking <dangerous I know> about the fingerprint thing. *I've decided I'll get in line right after lpara and angelus. *In fact, I may not even need to get in line. *Back in the 60's when I was working with the Dade County Public Schools it was mandatory for all new hires to be fingerprinted. *That was before PC and the ACLU started running the show. Guess what? *In the forty years that *someone* has had my fingerprints, no one has harrassed me, accused me falsely, or broken into my home to search it. *Now I know that my fingerprints went into a data base somewhere ~ even though it wasn't computerized at that time. *In fact, the bureau of records in Iowa has a copy of my footprints on my birth certificate (although my feet are a little larger now) http://gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mdr11.gif *Then there are the various applications I submitted over the years, which in those days required everything about you ~ height, weight, color of hair and eyes, married/single/divorced, birthdate and sex, religion and physical handicaps. *There was even an application that I saw where a man listed being bald as a physical handicap.:turquoiser olleyes: *That's when I discovered that the guy I married was well on his way to being handicapped.:biggrin :

Terri, every day that I'm breathing is another day to annoy the left leaning, driven my emotions people in this country! *Problem is that I am on the receiving end lately of being annoyed! *After reading this article HERE (http://gopusa.com/cgi-bin/ikonboard/topic.cgi?forum=8&topic=142) I am more than a little annoyed. *It's times like these that I feel a deep seated need to throw up my hands in righteous indignation. *No wonder our President doesn't fire Mueller....he AGREES with him! *I am believing at this point that this war will not ever be won. *The mechanics are not in place to win this war.....we can't even look for the BAD GUYS!!!!! *In fact, we can't even SAY who the bad guys are (witness the mangling that Lou Dobbs has been enduring these past few days!) *The PC infestation is eating away right to the very top of the ladder in this country. *It disappoints me greatly....and annoys me even more.

Under ordinary circumstances in my thinking process, I believe I would agree with RIM on the finger printing. HOWEVER, in the atmosphere that we now seem to be living in with our government not doing ANY of the obvious things that need to be done to protect this country.....I believe I'd tell them right now to stuff their fingerprinting. Until they can step out of this fog they seem to be living in....they're not getting a darn thing more from me.

Sorry for the downer this sunny morning....but we all had better prepare ourselves for our own safety.

Terri, Ann Coulter is wonderful and just about always hit's the proverbial nail.....however...a s much as I would LIKE it...Ann has no say in this government. The government (read President, et.al.) makes the decisions....and will end up being hung on their LACK of obvious, correct decisions IMO.

Hope everyone had a great weekend. RIM, I agree, we had glorious rain Saturday, but not enough, and excellent weather all day yesterday.

More aggravation; the air conditioner in my office is still broken! http://gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mad.gif http://gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tearhair.gif I think maybe I will take out damages for "pain and suffering" from my rent check this month...(it is supposed to be fixed, supposedly, sometime this morning; of course it was supposed to be fixed this weekend).

I agree with Terri on the fingerprinting, with one exception. I don't think US citizens in good standing should have to be fingerprinted if they decline the offer, but I do think it makes sense to get fingerprinted anyway, in case of a crime committed against you, much like they fingerprint many children in school nowadays (in case of an abduction, etc.). They should fingerprint anyone, from any country, coming in to the country, particularly for an extended period, as well as all new immigrants granted permanent status. Terri, if you do anything rash, wear gloves, and if caught tell them you are working for Daschle.

As if I wasn't suspicious enough, now I am going to have to be wary of any Japanese I see lurking about with umbrellas on rainy days (or not so rainy days).

Had a great time yesterday afternoon at the Katherine Harris barbecue. The place was on three acres on the Gulf of Mexico, it was breezy, people were catching snook on the shore, and the food was excellent. Looking at Katherine, you couldn't tell the intense hours I know she is putting in right now, balancing her Congressional campaign with the ongoing duties of Secretary of State. Got to meet a whole new crowd of Republican activists in a part of the county I don't get down to much (Englewood), and discussed much of what we have been discussing here. One comment was unanimous, they almost all cannot stand Daschle, and think he is a serious obstructionist like none other. Now if only the folks in SC could agree....

Had to take the wife in for an untrasound on her neck to see how well the surgery went and to make sure its not trying to clog up again. It looked pretty good. I'm just back from a short shopping trip. My eyes are burning, my throat is scratchy and now I have a headache. We can barely see the mountains for the smoke. This is coming from a 60,000 acre wildfire due west of us and another huge one many miles to the northwest. And then there are the closer grassfires. It's not looking good. If I was a tourist planning a vacation here, I wouldn't do it.

Terri -- I had no idea umbrellas were deadly weapons until about 3 weeks were left in the semester and this guy told me about his umbrella. He has a fascination with swords. He collects them like some people collect stamps of football cards.

This is quickly becoming incredible. 40,000 people are being evacuated on the southwest edge of Denver and closer to home we have a community being evacuated about 5 miles from us. A lot of people in Colorado could use any prayers you would care to send their way.

The news media and everyone else seems very happy about catching Padilla (the al quaeda bomb suspect), but did anyone think that they may have given him up to cover for some other cell? This is a common practice to throw off the CIA and FBI from seeing whats really going on. The Russians used to be masters of this technique. I'm also sure that the intelligence agencies are aware of this.

I am worried about her, too. My wife was worried about the older boys and I going to Cimmaron, NM which is pretty darn close to the fires. We are going in about 3 weeks. Hope lots of downpours are out there by then.

Let me stress that we are fine right here, for right now. The nearest fire to me is about 6 miles away and I think it's out. They got a quick jump on it. The worst thing for us is the smoke. It looks better outside now but my eyes are really burning even with the windows all closed and the AC on.

The huge ones are far from me. We do have a very windy, hot, dry day so everyone has to be on their toes. Any fire that starts moves very quickly. One good thing is that we have a reverse 911 system in most areas. The county sheriffs order evacuations this way.

Hopefully closing the national forests will help. I think they are expecting to close more of them than just the two I've heard about so far but one of those borders Colorado Springs so that is good news for us.

RIM, what a good idea. You don't think we'd starve to death if we put Janet on the fridge do you? :o

Here's a link with the latest Colorado fire updates. The biggest one is moving in on one of my favorite campgrounds. It's the scene of many good memories around this house. We used to take our kids there a lot when they were little. It's a rock climbing area. We survived kids getting stuck on rocks, bear raids, a trailer that got loose, and had many, many good times there. Things change and a campground is not important compared to people's homes.

TERRI!!!!!!! We've got a number of extra beds! It just sounds TERRIBLE out there! I was hearing about the 200 ft. leaps in the air....and that they are moving at a mile an hour! I saw Governor Owens on the TV right after they announced the evacuations and he said that AP was reporting that, but he hadn't confirmed that the evacuations were indeed being called.......HEEEEEL LLLLLLOOOOOOOOOO???? WHAT'S with THAT? He's the GOVERNOR for pete's sake! He didn't know about the call for evacuation? Well,,,,,,,,DUH!

You've got your AC on and windows closed and you STILL have all that smoke? Me thinks you'd better get to the airport and "come on down". Chicago is just fine this time of year....well, at least as long as they stay on top of the islamics around here!

Reminds me of a conversation I had today with one of my store managers. I was telling her about the news of the day about the Puerto Rican/Muslim/Islamist who was building the dirty bomb. Anyway, I started the story with "Ashcroft was reporting on the TV......." and she stopped me and said "Who's Ashcroft?". It stopped me dead in my tracks...and it made me sick......:barf:

Saber, you may have to break out the futon for me yet but so far, so good. The big fire is moving northeast and that takes it further from us. *The smoke is much lighter now. The firefighters have been pulled off it. It's just too dangerous. http://gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif *This one was started by a campfire. The fire is moving at two miles an hour. That may not sound like much but it's a terrific pace for a forest fire.

The Gov finally banned the sale and use of fireworks here. He also closed 3 large state parks in addition to the two national forests.

Floridaguy, I sure hope they get that AC fixed. That's unreal this time of year.

David n Joyce, good to see you posting! We hope you will post often, either one or both of you! :o

Almost forgot to comment about the Ashcroft lady. I trust she is well informed now. Do you ever hear Sean Hannity's man on the street interviews on his radio show? They don't even know who Cheney is. The stupidity out there is unreal.

Saber--it sounds like the Sean Hannity show going on the streets and asking (mostly older teenagers and young adults) who is Richard Cheney. *Many, Many did not know! *Postively complacent about all things not having to do with THEMSELVES. *People have to be pretty self-absorbed to not know these well-known facts.:shake:

Terri ~ I'm glad the fires seem to be subsiding. I know how bad the smoke can get. One year we had a fire north of me, around Orlando, and they had to close down I-4 because it was so thick. Then the haze hangs in the air for days. http://gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mr_yuk.gif
