The President announced a new Cabinet level agency which will encompass many elements of several existing agencies.
The Senate held hearings on the FBI questioning Director Mueller and the agent who blew the whistle on FBI problems.
There is a new Fox News poll out that shows the President's approval at 74%. Only 6% felt that Bush was responsible for not preventing 9/11. http://gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/compute.gif

Hello!
We seem to have a problem this morning. I've tried to post new threads and can't. I'd appreciate it if someone else would try one. I'm not sure what the problem is but we do seem to be able to post in established threads. We may have to carry on for awhile with the threads we have. :o
RIM, you're sounding good today. Is this Friday for you too? I'd like my granddaughter to be a conservative but she belongs to liberal parents so.....we shall see. Maybe she'll rebel. I saw my daughter looking at the Cheney book yesterday but she made no comment. http://gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/doh.gif
Remember the missionaries that have been held captive in the Phillippines for so long? A rescue attempt was made overnight with mixed results. Mrs. Burnham was injured but rescued alive. Unfortunately her husband was killed during the attempt.

I am so sad about the missionaries. *That is so very pitiful for the wife and other family members. *My heartfelt prayers will be without ceasing for them today. *
I (can you believe it) got to see the president last night. *It was "snowing" http://gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mdr11.gif, but his voice was clear. *Then saw Tom Ridge also. *He seems to be a man on the ball. *I liked him. *I don't know of any really bad press about adding this as a new "government agency."
I heard Mrs. Cheney on Sean Hannity a week or maybe two ago talking about her book. *She was really a sweet lady. *I'll have to go to the bookstore today. *I wonder if our PUBLIC, liberal library has one.

Good Morning All! Welcome to Kathio77, feel free to post often. I am having a great day, because I did not need to go to work, and due to running late on a meeting with Al Cardenas this morning (who happens to be Florida's state GOP Chairman and was in Sarasota today), decided to not go to work. It's ashame too, because my secretary told me the air is still out there. http://gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif No need for both of us to sweat. I am going to another meeting this afternoon at 2 (EST) with Al and our local Chairman's Circle (i.e., big party donors) which I wasn't going to go to before.
Thought the president did well, and am now looking for the Dem spin on it. lpara, first I knew of that you are in NC. I happen to love the places I have visited there, such as Boone, Beech Mountain, Blowing Rock, Cherokee, etc. Nice to get out of the flatlands once in a while.
Last night, I was having extreme technical difficulties, too, because due to the markers not working so well, I have been basing whether I read a post or not already on the time it was posted; which apparently was also messed up earlier. Sheesh! I also still think RIM has galoshes, but she won't admit to it in public. They are in her closet next to the knickers. http://gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Justin Keener, our GOPUSA News correspondent at the Republican State Convention in Dallas has filed a report for us this morning. It appears on our front page and I've posted it in the Activism Forum for anyone who would like to catch up.
Floridaguy, I think most of our technical problems are ironed out now. We do have an ongoing issue with post markers as well as the function which allows posters to be notified by e-mail when someone replies to their post. The best thing for now is just not to rely on those functions.
For everyone, we hope to have the forum software updated to a newer version in a few weeks. That will not only solve these problems but also give us some new features.
The President is speaking from Iowa.

Good afternoon all! I just fixed my computer problems by unplugging it and plugging it back in. I should be here more often now! For some reason, my computer was unable to access this site, and I could not get on ICQ, AOL IM, or a few other sites. But NewsMax, and vitually any other site would work. Now they all work. Yay!
Saw the Skakel conviction. So long as he really did it (and judging by his comments and lack of emotion during the conviction, I think he did it) I say yay, the criminal gets punished. Even though he is a Kennedy of sorts . . .
Well, I better go now and read up on what I've missed. I'll be back later.

Can I still say Good Morning All? After two tries this morning with no results, I gave up and did the things that I had said I was going to do. I thought GWs speech last night was good but the proof is in the pudding and I'm going to wait and see how it taste. I'm particularly interested in the Border Security aspect and am wondering if its just more talk or will they actually do something. If you are going to stop the terrorists and explosives from crossing the border, you will have to stop everyone. Believe me, I worked with many of the illegals for 5 years and most would do anything for a buck or two, with no alligence to anyone except themselves. Lets hope for the best, expect the worst and that way we want be dissappointed. Hope everbody is having or has had a nice day. I think Skakel is guilty but I was surprized at the verdict, since the evidence was all circumstantial. Maybe there is some justice, after all.

RIM, Skakel probably will get some sort of break but I did hear that the judge seemed especially sympathetic to the prosecution so who knows. I do think one of the Skakel's did it and only got by this long because of who they knew.
Mark Furhman was involved in reviving this and I understand he's also working on the Vince Foster case. I'd like to see something come of that.
Der Alte, I'm in the wait and see mode with the new agency too. And I don't expect any progress on border security until a certain President realizes we aren't going to put up with letting Mexico have our southwest back.

Hi guys! I'm in late today because I fell asleep!
Rim - good blonde joke! As a blonde, I think it's important to cultivate good blonde jokes, and you've added another one to my ever lengthening list.
Someone mentioned yesterday the average teacher salaries in their area as around 80 thousand. This is very high - my district is much lower, as is the national average. Most teachers don't work 9 month contracts, either - they're 10 month. But we also earn much less for our education, and we have to bear the burden of classroom material expense as well as continuing education, which is a requirement if we want to keep our certification. I'm lucky - the classes I'm starting are paid for by my school district, but only because they are in great need of math teachers.
Good Evening All. RIM, if you can believe it, Sarasota never got any rain today! :turquoiserolleyes: Everyone around us did, but noooo.... not here! Welcome markus and Captn Ron. Jump right in and post.
I am all for jokes in the Precinct. This thread is for more fun and personal happenings and whatnot, as long as people are tasteful and everyone has fun.
Had a great second meeting with the Florida GOP Chairman this afternoon, and turnout was good among the Chairman's Circle members. Al Cardenas actually gave good insight from a party perspective into some of what happened in the 2000 election that caught everyone by surpise. Apparently, the RPOF logs all 67 of Florida's counties on a chart and as close as possible, estimates how many votes each county will have our statewide Republicans (or presidential candidate in presidential election year) win by or lose by. A good example in 2000 was the estimate for Broward County, the most liberal, Democratic, far left place on the East Coast of the US, was anticipated to have Gore win by about 170,000 votes. It turned out he won by 210,000 votes. Why? Turnout in that county among Republicans was 67%, not bad or atypical for an election year. However, the Dems had an unprecedented 82% turnout in that county; unbelievable. Anyway, the point is strategically, party officials at the top in each state do not look at whether a candidate will win or lose in a particular county; they look at margin. If anyone is ineterested, this could become part of a new thread in the Campaigns, Issues, and Strategies thread, as I feel we need more conversation about the "Strategies" part if we are going to most effectively be grassroots leaders for the GOP.

The more I listen to Sean Hannity, the more I like him. *He was so sweet to a 9 year old girl today on his program.:28: He makes a lot of sense to me in MOST everything. *

Sue Elise, math teachers are very hard to get here too and our district also pays for classes and give special incentives to such teachers. Another premium is ESL.
Floridaguy, I agree about the humor. We all need every laugh we can get. The Precinct balances all the seriousness of the things we discuss. Sometimes we're even serious in here, but sometimes we're not. http://gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/28.gif
