A hangar at the Grand Island, Nebraska municipal airport exploded Tuesday night. Is it just me or are there a lot of things blowing up, catching fire or crashing lately? What's with all the fires in the Houston area? And the train wrecks? HI Terri and RIM!
It's Wednesday, HUMP day, and driveway day around here! *They're going to start the "rip out" of all things asphalt today and I'm excited!
I hear there was an earthquake near Taiwan last night. *Sounds like a big one, too.

Juggler! Welcome to our forum! http://gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
RIM, I'm having a hard time believing in Carter's good intentions right now. It seems like a deliberate Democratic attempt to undermine the Administration to me.
I do think you're right about news though. I really don't have my tinfoil hat on. Saber, we need to have part of our driveway replaced too. I dread it. Are you having cement this time?
Aberfoyle, it's a pretty sunny day here too. I sure wish we had some of the rain that the midwest has.

Terri...We found this process that involves colored cement that is stamped to look like....well....you can choose brick, cobblestone, slate, wood...just about anything you want! IT IS AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!! One of these days I'm going to figure out what all I need to know about digital cameras so I can post pictures on here! CHECK IT OUT if they have this stamped concrete option in your area, which I'm sure they do. BTW, you can pick just about any color you want (it's a two stage color with the last color giving it a kind of mottled, antiquey look).

WHOOOAAAAAAAA!
They are just reporting now on Fox that the British troops at the Bagram Air Base is being hit with some type of virus or bacteria that is LIFE THREATENING! A couple of them have been airlifted out! It's extremely contagious!
They also just said that there is some report that they know where bin Laden and Omar are and are planning a huge attack within the next 10 days! (hello, media.....think maybe since this has been reported that maybe the bobsey twins will "move along"?) DUH

Saber, interesting about the mystery illness. They are saying it's some kind of fever and intestinal illness. I wonder if it could be food poisoning. Guess not if it's really contagious.
I'm listening to Rush this morning and he's talking about the photo flap. The Original Story (http://gopusa.com/cgi-bin/ikonboard/topic.cgi?forum=6&topic=152) is posted here in our forum.
Daschle is having a hissy fit about how terrible it is that Bush is giving this photo in exchange for donations to the RNC. Of course Daschle neglects to say that the RNC purchased the photo from the media pool.
Also very interesting is an old Daschle flap when he gave tours of Mt. Rushmore in exchange for ŭ,000 donations. He used government park employees to provide his tours. Here's a link. Daschle's Mount Rushmore Trip Shows Fund-Raising's New Face (http://www.montco-pa.com/docs/news/observer/archive/obs101597nn.htm) Scroll down the page. This goes back to 1997.

Aberfoyle -- Midi making requires that you buy some midi writing program for your computer. I personally use Finale 2000, though there are many to choose from. Once you have that, there are two basic ways of writing music.
First, you have the "notation" style. That's where you put in each note, one at a time, on each part, on a music staff. It's similar to hand-writing music in this way, but you use a mouse and point and click instead of taing a pencil and drawing the noehead and the stem.
The other way is to hook an electronic piano to your computer using the midi plug (may have to be bought separately). Then, you can play each part (one at a time) and the program will notate it for you. Either way, it can be time consuming. I use the notation system (first one), so I can practice the transpositions and chord building. I prefer to write original compositions to arranging songs that already exist (though I have arranged a few sax ensembles, including one I called Merry Saxmas).
I did not take a course on it, I just learned it on my own (though there are courses, most likely).
I enjoy the leftersons, too. It's a funny cartoon, and so true. But then truth is often funnier than comedy.

Thanks Angelus! I understand music and often wondered about how this was done. I'd use the notation method as well as my piano isn't electronic. Thanks for all that good information.
You're welcome, Colin. I enjoy them a lot!

We have some interesting and good news to share with everyone. http://gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/twothumbsup.gif
Remember the poll that Bobby ran two weeks ago? It dealt with the most important issue for the fall elections.
The results of that first poll were stunning. We weren't the only ones who thought so. Take a look at this article that was written by Peter Roff, UPI National Political Analyst.
Analysis: Immigration headache for GOP (http://www.upi.com/view.cfm?StoryID=130 52002-054245-6803r)
We've had questions as to how we would bring these results to the attention of those who need to know about it. This is one of several ways that will be done.
When you participate here at http://gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/gopusa.gif you really are making a difference.

angelus ~ I don't write my own music, but I love midi's. *Like Aberfoyle, my piano is not electronic, although I do have an old Casio keyboard. *It prolly doesn't have the proper hookup. *I can see all kinds of possibilities here ~ I have piles and piles of sheet music and music books. <light bulb goes on>http://gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif *I may look into this in the future. *Say, when I'm fully retired and have more time. *Right now I go to card sites and bookmark the midi's and play them through my media player.
Ipara ~ "Cuber" http://gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mdr11.gif Actually, I have a couple of Italian friends who say "Cuber". *They are from New York. *We have been friends for 40 years. *They think I talk funny and I tell them I think they talk funny. http://gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mdr11.gif
Colin ~ great "toons". *What would we do without a sense of humor. *Laughter is all that saves us when everything else goes wrong. *
SR ~ my SIL in Leesburg has a driveway like you are talking about. *It is red brick. *I can pick her house out without even looking for the house itself ~ just look for the red brick drive. *It's beautiful. *BTW ~ are you anywhere near the floods? *I've been thinking of you all day since I heard about the Mississippi and Illinois rivers flooding. :o

Terri ~ as for Carter's "good intentions", I think that's the whole problem. *He can't distinguish between "good" and "keep your mouth shut". *But you are probably right ~ he's probably just a shill for the dems. *I really thought he had more class ~ just "shows to go ya".:turquoiserolley es:</span></span>

Aberfoyle - I'll be cheering too, but I'm not sure that's a GOOD thing! Seems my teams always lose when I'm watching! I may need to take a nap shortly so I can at least make it through SOME of the Av's game. DANG...makes me SO mad that they start these games so dern late!
RIM, they worked like dogs today and have EVERYTHING ripped out and taken to the dump. Now it's all covered with smoothed out gravel and part of it is "formed". Barring any more yucky weather, we might actually be done on Friday. <crossing fingers> And speaking of weather, thank God....no....the terrible floods are not around us here. It's VERY "squishy" everywhere, but the REALLY bad stuff is central and southern Illinois. They are reporting from down there wearing rubber overalls. It's ten feet over flood stage and hasn't crested yet. Those poor people!
All of you guys talking about this "midi" stuff reminds me of how DUH I am about all things computer! Sounds great, but it won't be happening here in MY lifetime! LOL
AND, what's this news about some tractor trailer having been hijacked? It's cargo is barrels of something or other that is NOT good. I don't know what it is, but my understanding is it is at least one of the "ingredients" for bomb-making.

Nice article, Bobby. I know that there were thousands of Canadians pretty upset at that time to know that Mr. Bush's first visit was to Mexico as it was the tradition that we'd have that privilege up here to entertain your president and have important meetings as soon as possible after he came to office.
