Happy TGIF!!

I know this is a very important day to those who work! http://gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

It also means we're winding up one of the most extraordinary newsweeks we've had for awhile.

Yesterday the President spoke out again on the Middle Eastern situation which continues to worsen. There was also a gunbattle in Bethlehem's Manger Square where the Palestinians are holed up in the Church of the Nativity.

The criticism of our President is rising. It seems he can't please anyone on the Middle East crisis, not even conservatives. It's a time when he really needs to be guided by his conscience and I hope that is what is happening. Sometimes it's so hard to determine what is right and do it. What would you do in his place? Do you think that Colin Powell has a chance for success on his mission for peace?

Click below for an article posted in our forums that will cause your blood pressure to rise, I'm sure.

They’re not martyrs. They’re murderers. And they undermine the cause of the Palestinian people. Those governments, like Iraq, that reward parents for the sacrifice of their children are guilty of soliciting murder of the worst kind. " ~~ President George W. Bush ~~ April 4, 2002 *

Good Morning Terri!

That's the 64,000 dollar question ~ what would we do in our President's place? He really is in a very tenuous position, when his decisions can have such huge consequences. I agree with most everything he does (not 100%) but when you lead a country as large and diverse as ours you are going to offend someone.

Will check back after work. Have a great day.:)

I was having password problems. I hope it's cleared up now.

I've just finished watching one of the most moving processions of Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother through the streets of London to Westminter Hall where she wil lie in state until the funeral service on Tuesday.

What a wonderful woman she was. Born in the Victorian Era and dying in the Edwardian Era, this death of this gracious lady certainly marks the end of wonderful era.

The world will miss her.

Morning all. A lot of the same faces here!

I'm not sure what to think of what Bush said yesterday. He was very strong against the Palestinian terrorists, but why call for Israel to move out of their land, the so-called "occupied territories"? This is a move I don't quite get.

I don't understand this stance either, SueElise. I'm afraid that I believe that these lands do indeed belong to Israel.

Exactly,RIM! *And this time I think he's offended almost everyone to one degree or another. This situation is so emotional and so serious that it's very difficult not to.

Two members of Congress have called for the President to send former Presidents Bush, Carter and Clinton on a peace mission to the Middle East. I've posted the article in News/Current Events.

Aberfoyle, the Queen Mum was one of the great ladies of the world. She set a wonderful example and the leaders of today could learn a lot of it.

SueElise, that is one of the things that makes it so difficult for us. We see the basic unfairness that the rest of the world refuses to see. Some of the land was won fair and square when Israel was attacked in 1967 and won the war.

I'm off to see what else is going on in the news today!

HI All!

I thought President Bush's speech started off VERY VERY strong and forceful about the wrongs going on "over there". I thought it ended much less strong. I almost felt that he said negative things about Israel and Sharon so it wouldn't be one-sided.

All the mumbo-jumbo being spewed about "occupied" territories and how the media wants to try to pick the wounds constantly....well, it's driving me nuts. I'm no middle east expert, but I'm having a hard time finding what Israel has done wrong. I'm not saying they are perfect, none of the countries are, but HOW there can be any gray in the CURRENT situation just befuddles me. They are always having to respond almost daily to horrible terrorist attacks. I move on to being angry with what I see as hypocrisy of Bush calling for "calm" all the time as Israel tries to deal with the terrorists bombing their citizens while we are waging our war on al-queda. It wouldn't take more than one suicide bomber in a grocery store in any city in this country...and we'd be planning retaliation....right fully so.

As far as Powell going........ ah, better not go there....

Saber, you've certainly hit the nail on the head. Let any of these suicide bombers blow themselves up on this side of the great pond and see if we could be told to "hold your peace". This is exactly what went on in Northern Ireland for years until they could take it no longer. I'm sorry but I feel strongly about this and war is war.

Morning Saber!
It's such a difficult situation. I too would have preferred a stronger statement in their favor. Yes, one wonders if we have to be attacked the same way to understand. I don't understand what is so difficult in knowing that suicide bombing is wrong but much of the world fails to make that distinction.

I ran across Peggy Noonan's column this morning. She always is so calm and takes such reasonable stands on things. I'm still not happy but she helped. I posted it in News/Current Events. I hope everyone will read it. Peggy Noonan (http://gopusa.com/cgi-bin/ikonboard/topic.cgi?forum=6&topic=26)

Aberfoyle, don't be sorry about expressing your views. That's what this place is for and I certainly can't disagree with you. I don't like our government restraining Israel. I do think the President made it clear we are on their side but .........

One of our members Aknauta has posted an article that relates to this and what political correctness has done to our country. It's in Foreign Policy. A War Against Islam (http://gopusa.com/cgi-bin/ikonboard/topic.cgi?forum=9&topic=4) It's well worth reading.

Good morning everyone.
I wish we had chat software similar to NRs site...this way we could see a real stream of comment. Easier for the moderator too.
At the risk of causing a heart attack to our gentle readers a note of caution on the following.
As to the problem that Israel faces, it is severe. The fundamental problem is that the countries that have pursued this war are quietly living on the sideline as the surrogate frontline palestinian troops attack Israel.
These countries pay no price for designing this war. These countries have arranged to concentrate the palestinian population in camps where they are trained from childhood to hate and despise the Jewish nation. Then they are kept poor but well fed so they can form the terrorist troops used to constantly attack Israel from their camps. This is an established pattern that has been followed for generations. Now it is beginning to bear fruit. Mostly it is western countries who purchase the oil and gas who are helping to finance this war to the death in Israel. At this time Israel is suffering financially because of the drop in tourism and the halting of normal business. Soon the deficits will swell to impossible size and Israel will face bankruptcy. The Arabs are subtle in their war and we haven't been paying attention. It is now time for Israel and America to wake up and face the real structure of middle east violence and warfare towards Israel. This threat is against us as well as Israel. The nations financing this war must begin to pay a price. I would recommend that Israel send high level dignitaries to every one of the nations involved and explain that they now understand the shape of this war and will no longer allow these nations to go on undamaged. I would give these nations 30 days to halt all funding. If that doesn't take place then I would nuke each
nation back to the stone age. I would tell the United Nations that the principle of unlimited war against Israel is ending and that any nation that joins the attacking nations is fair game for nuclear destruction.
Time is running out for Israels survival.

Your gentle sevant Aknauta

Aknauta! It's good to see you checking into the daily thread here.

Yes, I agree that the Palestinians are a front for the so called "moderate" countries behind them and we all know who those countries are.

And I agree that the plan is to bring us down economically. By us, I mean not just Israel but also the US. The 9/11 attack was expected to have a much greater impact on us financially than it did.

In fact, I'm with you right up to the word nukes. We all may live to regret not being a first strike country but I still don't believe we should be. Israel is of course a sovereign country but I hope they will not choose to strike first with nuclear weapons either.

Beyond that, what would it do to the entire area? Israelis would still have to live there.

Having said all that I might not be adverse to a well placed daisy cutter or two if the suicide bombers are not stopped and I don't believe they will be.

I'm sure all of you have noticed something that is really bothering me. No matter what the network or the show have you noticed that NO Arab guest will admit that Arafat is a terrorist?? No matter how much the hosts badger them they will not. Until this question comes up they will pretend to be moderate reasonable people. As soon as it does they become loud, disagreeable, rude, and ugly. How can people miss this fact??

OK Ladies and Gentlemen..... I am in a very unusual (for me) state of being..... I'M SPEECHLESS!!!!!! *Well, almost... problem is I'm just filled with words that had BETTER remain speechless!

I have just posted an article in War On Terrorism from Human Events which speaks directly to our middle east immigration policy since 9/11. *It is breathtakingly (is that a word??) alarming and could cause one to be immediately diagnosed with Tourette's Disease where you will inexplicably curse and scream at the top of your lungs in the most inappropriate of places. *For anyone who has insomnia problems.... I suggest you wait until morning to read it..... it's THAT bad.
