The main news of the day seems to be either the situation between India and Pakistan or the makeover of the FBI. We'd love to hear your comments on either. :o*

Marianne Pearl gave birth to Adam D. Pearl on Tuesday. It's too bad this baby will never know his father but he is healthy and weighed 6 pounds. http://gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/angel.gif

Secretary of the Treasury Paul O'Neill is on a trip with U2 singer Bono; they're on a tour of Africa. http://gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/red_eyes.gif Doesn't this strike you as a little bizarre?

Come sit a spell and enjoy talking about the news, Party issues, or just chatting with friends. The Precinct is friendly and laid back. Enjoy! http://gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Didn't get a chance to "weigh in" last evening ~ we had a terrific thunderstorm pass through (I think FlGuy sent it over from Sarasota) http://gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif and I unplugged everything. It lasted most of the evening so I gave up and went to bed. http://gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif

There is so much aggravating news out there ~ after reading the I.N.S.ULT, I ......... well I won't tell you what I said. *My status as a "lady" might be compromised. http://gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/teeth2.gif *The world must look at us like a replay of "The Three Stooges". http://gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mad.gif *No wonder Ashcroft is giving the FBI more autonomy. *

"Eminem, the Detroit rapper whose third album skyrocketed to the top of the charts this week, wants everyone to know that he spews profanity, perversity and homicidal fantasies for a very good reason. "Everything that I am doing right now is for Hailie," Eminem explained in a BBC interview last summer. "The money -- it's for her college." - May 31, 2002 ~ TOWNHALL.COM (http://www.townhall.com/columnists/michellemalkin/printmm20020531.shtm l):turquoiserolleyes ::shake::twothumbsdo wn::smash:

The latest horror report I've heard is that the US is seriously worried that missle launchers have been brought into the US. I dunno folks.....I'm getting very very worried....and very hot under the collar I might add...at what is going on here. From stolen cyanide, to divers, to watchful ME "visitors" at water plants, to small airplane warnings, to fears of murder bombers, to open sieve borders, to the INS "taking a holiday"....and now missle launchers. I'm living my daily life...but terrorists are winning if terror is invading our country.

Could someone explain exactly WHY O'Neill is traveling around with BONO? Anybody?

This India/Pakistan problem sounds woefully like Israel/palestine to me. More land and religious/muslim fighting to me.

More "real" work on the agenda for me today. I didn't find the store yesterday to be the well oiled machine I like it to be....ahem....SO, I've got to go lubricate the parts..;)

Let's get movin' and get through this last day of the week so we can pop our popcorn and watch those AV'S paste one on the foreheads of those evil Redwings tonight. THIS is it folks.....GO GET 'EM AVS!!!!!!!! Then we can http://gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/elefant.gif the rest of the weekend!

OK. Here's another HUGE one......

I just read (and will go confirm shortly) that the military analyst on Fox News (Bob Bevalaqua?) just reported this morning that Flight 800 WAS indeed brought down by a missle launcher. Two men were spotted in a boat with it. Remember all the witnesses who said they saw the missle go up? They were shut up and dismissed! Well, now apparently, according to him (not confirmed), the government is letting the true information out so they can't be accused of "knowing" about it if this happens again. They covered it up so as not to "scare" people. Anybody else hear this this morning? I'm going to go see if I can confirm it....consider it a "rumor" for now. So help me God, if this is true.....if our government is now admitting to lying to us all these years and acting like those of us who knew the truth without proof were conspiracy nutballs............ .....

My, you guys get up in the morning and your blood is running fast. http://gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mdr11.gif I may have to go back to bed to rest up. I already have my days and nights mixed up anyway. I was here posting after 1http://gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wow.gif0 this morning. http://gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/ne_nau.gif

Why did O'Neill and Bono go to Africa you ask. You aren't going to like the answer. Sit down and prepare yourself. http://gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif
O'Neill, Bono Say Africa Tour a Bonding Experience (http://www.washingtonpost.c om/wp-dyn/articles/A34390-2002May30.html)

As to the plane that went down off the east coast, it is the one tinfoil hat story that always made a lot of sense to me. The year was 1996 so when we say "our government" I need to remember that it wasn't really "my government" in power in 1996. Like you Saber, if this did turn out to be true, I'd be angry. So far though, I haven't heard a word about it.

RIM, I hope everyone reads I.N.S.ULT. The link is above in my first post. This is the story that Jen told us about yesterday and it's still very important to read it. http://gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/shake.gif

So! What else is going on in anyone's world this morning. Hubby invited me out to breakfast so I'm going if I ever wake up. Then I think a little shopping and some yard time for me today. http://gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sunflower.gif

I hope all our new members will come in today and talk to us. We want to get to know you and we won't bite. Honest.

Good morning and welcome to all of the new members. Jump right in and let us know how you feel about the news and world events in general. From a news summary it appears that many Republicans think that the president needs to re-evaluate his position on our southern border and the INS. It seems that anyone, at anytime, can come to America without worrying about the government seeking them out and returning them from whence they came. Its alright to seek new voters for the party but to give away the country we love just for votes just doesn't cut it. Someone said, "The world seems brighter today", or was that a flash of light from a nuclear weapon.

http://gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sun1.gif Morning everyone! http://gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sun1.gif

Saber, How much do you want to spend? Canon just came out with their 6.3 megapixel camera, D60. That is a GOOD camera, but will cost you. I wouldn't settle for less than 4 megapixels unless you want a cheapie. I have a 1.3 megapixel camera Olympus D-450 (see picture in backroom) that originally cost me &#36500. Probably that one would cost &#36150 now.

Bono, Eminem????? what are they?

The India and Pakistan trouble is about Kashmir, a region that was given to India by the UN but with the agreement that it would be allowed to have a plebicite. India never allowed one so the Kashmiris have been conducting a war of liberation against India (aided by Pakistan's government). If you remember Ghandi was murdered by a Hindu who hated his attempt to fashion a peaceful understanding among the Hindus and Muslims in India. This religious war has been going on for a thousand years, or more.
The war potential between India and Pakistan also has to do with power politics and the alignment between the old communist sphere (of which India was a jr. partner) and Pakistan which was in the influence of the Nato sphere. Complicated by Chinese taking some of India's Kashmir region by force of arms.
It is a dangerous time now that the world's powers are re-aligning and settling old scores.

Thanks for the info on the camera Aknauta. I've pretty much heard the same thing about having at least 4 pixel thingys! http://gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif Any other differences I should look for?

As for your information on India/Pakistan. THANKS! So many smart people around here on so many different subjects! I love it!!!!!!! I learned alot of details from your excellent post. It DOES then boil down in the big picture to a land and religious war....right?......a nd I'll throw in the UN as another common denominator!

Saber,
One of the most important uses for digital cameras is their ability to easily save pictures to your computer or a CD disk. If you have a CD RW disk drive (doesn't everyone?) you now can save your camera's pictures to disk and send them to friends and family. You can also take photos of your families old photos (if you have a 4 megapixel or better camera) for distribution to everyone. Instead of just the favored daughter getting the family photos, now everyone in the family can have a set of digital copies. OR you can buy a very expensive digital copier and do the same thing. But when visiting relatives it is much easier to carry a camera. This has worked well for me.
For simple pictures and just playing around, a low pixel camera works fine, even for posting pictures. But you won't be able to blow them up to larger size.
Canon's 6 megapixel camera is approaching the resolution of film so can be the best of both worlds. I don't know the price of it though and suspect it is in the multi thousand dollar range.

For sure it is dangerous times. I hope that Rumsfeld will pour cold water on the hotheads. He has a way of being very effective and my hopes are on him.

I may have a slightly different take on the pixel issue. My Sony is a 1.5 Megapixel camera and I print excellent 8x10 photos from it. They are hanging on my walls in this room. You can see some of my photos here. (http://www.geocities.com/teresalynn/Photostuff/photopag.htm) This model Sony is no longer made and produces photos that are a little soft. There are other models that are better.

Even if you buy a 4 megapixel much will still depend on your printer. You will need a photo quality printer. I have an excellent HP that makes the most of my pixels.

Also check out the cost of the storage medium. Some are very expensive. Sony makes some that use mini cds which are comparatively very cheap. Sony batteries are also far superior to any others on the market. They are expensive to buy but last a very long time and hold their recharge indefinitely.

Think about what you want the camera for and read the reviews. Zoom is everything to me so I have a 10x optical. If you are mainly going to take photos of people, etc. you wouldn't need that.

I would recommend a late model Sony, Olympus, or even Nikon if you don't want the zoom. The first two do have high zoom models.

AS for printing pictures on your printer, a lot depends not only on the printer, but the paper. High gloss paper works really well in pringting pictures. Which is why I should get some more than the 5 sheets that came with my printer . . http://gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mdr11.gif

My cameras are all still analog, so even though I am a "whippersnapper" I am still severly technologically disadvantaged. BTW, if they are asking Americans to leave the area around India and Pakistan, does that mean Rumsfeld's trip there was cancelled, or did he still go today? Terri, I think I may have jinxed the new membership yesterday; when I just logged on it said that Bill (from yesterday) is still the last new member that joined. Hi everyone! It's FRIDAY!!! And we're down to nine days with the students!! Today our absentee list was 8 pages! Prom night - nowadays, they take the day off to go get a manicure, pedicure, hairstyle, limo, etc. I remember that limos were a HUGE deal when I was in HS and only a few kids did it. Now it's standard fare.

I'm off to an outdoor concert tonight, so you all have fun. It's steamy and almost 90 here!

It's been a busy day. The kids are out of school here and we had a few places to take the grandchildren. One goes one way, and one the other, so we sometimes wind up on the road at the same time going different directions. Oh well, keeps us young. http://gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/doh.gif

I took a quick trip around the news sites and saw a few interesting things.

The ATF is offering a &#365,000 reward for information about stolen explosives in California. Wonder who's supposed to be watching this stuff? :o

The latest Zogby poll shows that the Bush poll numbers are about the same as his last one. This is the poll that always runs a little lower than most. I posted an article about the President's base in Current Events. It might surprise you, it did me.

And a federal court has tossed out the internet porn law for libraries. http://gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/doh.gif

There's important business tonight! The hockey game which starts in less than an hour. I've got to get a few things done and get my popcorn popped. http://gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrinking.gif *See you all in the intermissions.

lpara, the Canes are good but it may take them a couple of tries to get some playoff experience. The Redwings are old hands. Their fans throw octopi out onto the ice when they win. :o I have no clue why. They're wierd. http://gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mdr11.gif

Der Alte, what do you think about the Canes chances? I sure would like to see them win it since the Avalanche is out of it.

Now the score is 5/0. This may be the highest scoring 7th game ever in the playoffs. http://gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/shake.gif

Terri,

I always watched C-SPAN's Washington Journal in the morning, but when I had to live in a hotel for a few weeks during the first phase of my home's remodeling, they didn't have C-SPAN so I began watching Fox and Friends and found it very informative and enjoyable.

They had great guests like Bob Bevilacqua, and, you have to admit, he's not only knowledgeable, and honest; he is a SUPER hunk!!!

Anyway, I had a root canal done today, and it wasn't too bad. I put off going to the dentist; you know, the election year in 2000, and the house remodeling, and all the other excuses. Welll, it's time to pay the piper!!

Everyone, have a great weekend. I'll be working, so if you think about it, send me a prayer, so I can give the best to the angels God entrusts in my care.

howdy folks,

thank you for the welcome terri!

firsly, let me thank those that maintain this wonderful website. it's a lot of work, and i doubt the pay is very good. <g> yet, it appears everyone has a good time and seriously enjoys all the work.

i guess intros ... i'm from kentucky. ok. nuff said <g>

may 28th is a special day. we hold our primary elections on may 28th. the polls open early. my wife and i are always one of the first to hit the ballots. of course, we're in a very rural community so it's not to hard to be first in line.

i'm generally not 100% up to speed on local politics. lately, as all of us have been, national and worldly politics and news has taken a front seat. especially since 9/11. our local weekly paper has little political information and tv coverage is left to the bigger races and metro areas.

as i saw the county ballot, i was taken aback by the fact that on the GOP side of the ticket there was 1, count 'em, 1 republican race. on the democrat side of the ticket, it was full to the bottom and them some. i'm not sure how it is in other states, but at primary's we declare and vote registered party. gee.

i was really disgusted. i found out we have no RP office in the county. well, i thought about it for two days. i was actually stewed about it. i was stewed by the fact that i have little or no republican support. this morning by 10 o'clock, i was on the phone to our state GOP office. it was so funny. <g> when the receptionist answered the call, i told her who i was, explained why i was calling and where i was calling from. she nearly fell out of her chair and exclaimed, "OH"!. she said they rarely ever get a call from our county. she immediately put me through to one of the state chair persons who was nearly as surprised as well. i explained how i felt about having literally no representation and asked what i need to do to get the ball rolling and get an RP office cooking in the county. the chair person was extremely helpful in getting me a few contact names. i am pursuing them.

in the meantime, as my organizational skills are excellent in stacking books on the basement bookselves, where can one go to learn how to put together a party office such as this?
i'm sure that is a fairly broad question, but i am open to any and all suggestions.

i'll try and keep you informed of my foray into politics! <g>

good to meet you all and best wishes.

Terri, et al , I think the Canes are fighters, but this is the first trip to the finals in franchise history. They were real surprized how well the fans supported them and their play reflects the support. I hope the long layoff doesn't hurt them. They have two excellant goalies but their offensive output is really lacking in most games. I guess it will be the Canes Vs Redwings - I just looked and the lead is 6/0. Give us all the support you can - we will need it. Good nite all.

Hi lc! It must be beautiful in Kentucky this time of year. http://gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

What a wonderful story! I wish you the best of luck. I hope you find someone among those contact names who can help you.

Here's a site that GOPUSA links to that should be of help to you. *Local Victory (http://www.localvictory.com /)

Der Alte, be sure that I will be rooting for the Canes all the way! GO CANES!!! *http://gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/yelclap.gif

I always root for two teams, the Avalanche, and whoever plays the Redwings. http://gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

ICJones,

Contact GOPAC;
they have material I'm sure they'd be willing to share with you.
Also, the State Chair should get you in contact with other County Chairs in Kentucky. I'm sure they'd be willing to help.

OK, you girls. I'm looking at Bob Bevilacqua right now. He's on with Greta. He has a little devil goatee which appeals to me not at all! http://gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mdr11.gif But he is a knowledgeable fellow. http://gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

Brit Hume is better. http://gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Good Donna! I knew others would have good ideas for lc too. I missed your post earlier at first but we will say a little prayer for your little http://gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/angel.gif *I know you'll do well but don't forget to take a few minutes for yourself, OK?

lc, you be sure to come back. This group just takes in new members and they are part of our family immediately. http://gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Geez Saber! :o You are more depressed and torqued than I am about it. I'm not polite. I love Patrick Roy! All the best moments of Avalanche hockey come courtesy of Patrick. I just think it might be time for him to retire but I'll always think he's the best goalie in the world. :1luvu:

Now, does anyone know anything about XM radio--satellite radio--it has a lot of news stations on it just like tv but it's radio and we're looking into it, so if anyone knows anything about it, I'd be interested to hear!

I looked into XM a bit awhile back, Ipara. *I though COOOOLLL...I'll be able to get all the great talk radio stations that they DON'T have in Chicago (:teeth2:, we have the WORST talk radio bar NONE). *To my GREAT disappointment, that's not what it is at all. *It's just all these TV satellite channels. *I guess if I wanted to hear audio of "As the Stomach Turns" it would fill the bill, but http://gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mr_yuk.gif

Anyway, it depends on what you are looking for. *It's not for me.

Donnalee and I both know that a goatee on Bobby B. is just http://gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/cool.gif *But it's ok Ipara and Terri...we'll just keep him to ourselves....right Donnalee?? http://gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/elefant.gif

OH...I'm not in bed yet 'cuz I'm still torqued! LOL

OK, it is 12:26 here right now, so . . . *Good morning GOPUSA! *It's a fabulous night-time out there with the absence of the sun. *As they say in Sunnydale, CA at this time of day, things are not so sunny in the dale. *(I know, that was bad, sorry).

I had a wonderful day. *Tomorrow is cutting the grass . . . Ack! *Oh, my room is almost clean now. *Just one more spot to finish (the dreaded closet, ARGH!)

Well, I'm off for now! *lpara, it's nice chatting with you. *And Terri, you're a good chat buddy too. *No, I didn't forget ya

Well, since we don't have cable or satellite, and it did show that FOX news was on the line up it sounded good to me!
It's a little expensive tho-- so might wait a couple of years!http://gopusa.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mdr11.gif
