In the middle of a speech given by Democratic National Committee (DNC) Chair Donna Brazile on Thursday at the party’s first meeting since its presidential nominee Hillary Clinton lost the election, an irate staffer interrupted to accuse her of essentially handing the Republican rival, Donald Trump, the victory.

One of the approximately 150 DNC employees, identified as “Zach,” interjected a rant against the DNC’s interim leader, who was delivering what one member called “a rip-roaring speech.” He would not let Brazile continue her plea to attendees to hold onto hope for future Democratic wins.

“Why should we trust you as chair to lead us through this?” Zach questioned Brazile, according to two people in the room who notified The Huffington Post. “You backed a flawed candidate, and your friend [former DNC chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz] plotted through this to support your own gain and yourself.”

But the agitated member did not end his rant against Brazile – who replaced Schultz after her pre-election scandal – despite being booed by other DNC staffers who instructed him to sit down and be quiet.

“You are part of the problem,” Zach added, blaming Brazile for securing a Trump win by choosing to stand behind Clinton in the early stages of the Democratic primary. “You and your friends will die of old age, and I’m going to die from climate change. You and your friends let this happen, which is going to cut 40 years off my life expectancy.”

After Zach ended his tirade and gathering his things as he began to leave, Brazile asked him where he was going. Still upset, Zach told the besieged chair to go outside and “tell people there” why she should be leading the Democratic Party – an exchange that was confirmed by two DNC staffers.

When asked for a comment regarding the interruption, the seasoned Democratic strategist – who will continue to preside as the DNC’s interim chair until the party holds a full DNC meeting in March 2017 to elect a new chair – did not wish to publicize the disruption.

“As you can imagine, the individual involved is a member of the staff, and I personally do not wish to discuss our internal meetings,” Brazile expressed. The wish to keep the matter contained was also shared by a DNC spokesman, who refused to respond to The Huffington Post’s further inquiry.

Problem after problem

Brazile has been filling in for Wassermann Schultz since July, when the scandal-plagued former DNC chair stepped down from her position as a result of internal DNC emails released by WikiLeaks that provided evidence detailing how Democratic officials conspired to help Clinton win the Democratic primary against her then rival Sen. Bernie Sanders (D-Vt.).

Just last month, Brazile was exposed in a scandal of her own, when WikiLeaks divulged emails indicating that when she was a CNN strategist, she gave her friends on Clinton’s campaign questions before certain CNN-sponsored candidate events took place — giving the former first lady a clear advantage.

According to the Leftist daily, the two DNC staffer informants who discussed the interruption were not too familiar with Zach and could not recall his last name.

“They noted that he wasn’t alone in his sentiments,” The Huffington Post reported. “Some in the room nodded as he spoke, they said, and after he left, some talked about him being right on some points (perhaps not his claims about imminent death by climate change).”

However, another attendee at the DNC meeting insisted that Brazile had “overwhelming” support by those at the post-election event, explaining that her motivational speech “had some staffers in tears.” This eyewitness maintained that the temporary chair also addressed Zach’s accusations after he left the room.

“If he had stayed, he would have heard that,” the informant shared.

Even though rumors have it that Brazile might continue as DNC chair after the party’s March meeting, there is some belief that she is on her way out.

“The party is at a crossroads,” a former longtime DNC staffer wishing to remain anonymous asserted. “They have been using the same playbook for decades, and now, they won’t let anyone else come in and change it up. The fact that Democrats just sat through a devastating defeat and now have to trust the leadership that not only contributed to Clinton’s loss, but the crushing 2014 midterm losses, well, what do they expect?”
