Whatever Happened To The Real Democrats?
By Thomas D. Segel

My paternal grandfather and all his male offspring were good, solid Southern Democrats. My fraternal grandfather was not only a member of that party, but held elected party office. They are all gone now and thankfully cannot see their party's degradation. But, if any of them were around today, many ears would vibrate from the rage my forefathers would emit, seeing what is taking place within their political party of choice.

For example, look at these words..."To succeed, the Democratic campaign must itself be a progressive one. Given that we can expect no serious disaffection or erosion of the Republican base, only a progressive candidacy, leading a progressive Democratic campaign can galvanize the Democratic base and attract new and independent voters to defeat Bush. Only a Democratic campaign that emphasizes a progressive agenda can effectively mobilize the broad constituencies of working people, women, people of color, peace activists, environmentalists and global justice activists that will be needed to defeat the Bush regime."

"So, tell us something new", you say. "We have seen the Democrats doing just this for their entire campaign."

The only thing is.... Democrats did not write those lines. They come from The Resolution on the 2004 Elections written by the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA), the largest socialist organization in the United States. It is the same DSA, which claims at least 50 members in the House of Representatives of the United States Congress serve within its ranks.

Another passage in that same resolution reads, "The Democratic Socialists of America welcomes the grassroots renewal movement within the Democratic Party, named for the late Minnesota Senator Paul Wellstone, in which DSC members have taken a leadership role in some areas around the country."

Another national organization backing the Democratic ticket claims Bush is destroying workers rights, that he is privatizing Medicare, Social Security and public education, and giving huge tax breaks to the rich. They also claim Bush is super-funding the military at the expense of human needs. He is rolling back civil rights gains, curtailing women's rights and choice, abusing immigrant workers, exploiting and ruining the environment, denying civil liberties and free speech, discriminating against Gays and Lesbians and pushing for more preemptive wars, thus ruining our economy.

Now that sounds like it comes right out of that Democratic playbook, but it doesn't. Those are the reasons Kerry should be supported and George W. Bush should be defeated according the Communist Party, USA.

If those two support groups don't show Americans that the Democratic Party has moved so far to the left it is off the edge, nothing will. After seeing the disasters which befell Russia, Bulgaria, Romania, Poland and others, moving them from socialism and into democracy...After seeing the traumatic eruptions caused by the socialism of South America...After seeing dozens of years with people fleeing the degradation of Socialist Cuba...how could any American want to be party to the same failed political agenda?

I don't even think Kerry subscribes to such leanings...but, then he might. He does want to be our next president.
