Financing Hate
By Kay R. Daly
October 11, 2004

The "Anybody But Bush" (A.B.B.) crowd is fueled not only by their seething hatred of the President, but also by multi-billionaire George Soros. Soros has spent more than 18 million dollars so far to oust the Bush Administration and could double that by the time November 2nd rolls around.

Mr. Soros has every right, within the bounds of the law, to practice this "checkbook advocacy" as the Capital Research Center has aptly termed it in their report on Soros' unusual pet causes. Not content with spending more than $5 billion around the world on a wide variety of leftist projects, he has now turned his attention and considerable resources to the American presidential election. Soros himself has called this little venture the "central focus of my life."

George Soros may not be a great philosopher, as he clearly believes, but neither is he as crazy as some of his critics believe. Multi-billionaires may be eccentric but they do not become billionaires many times over with a debilitating mental deficiency.

Make no mistake, Mr. Soros is making an investment. Just like his currency speculation venture in 1992 when he pocketed $1.1 billion profit in a single day after devaluing the British pound. The real return on his investment was not the $1.1 billion he added to his asset column, but the ejection of British Prime Minister John Major and his Tory Party who were politically devastated by the devaluation of the pound.

The Brits are not the only unfortunates to have found themselves in Mr. Soro's crosshairs. According to Frontpagemag.com, "Similar high-roller global financial machinations by Soros over the years have led to accusations that he caused the economic collapse in Asia in 1997 and, according to one anti-Semitic publication, the near 50-percent devaluation of the Russian ruble in 1998." Frontpagemag.com further divulges that Soros was also involved in the Mexican bailout, and the devaluation of the U.S. dollar against the Euro.

If the "charitable" causes that Soros has funded so far are any indication, it isn't merely the ouster of President Bush from the White House that he seeks as the return on his investment. Drug legalization, feminist projects and a charming little organization called "Project Death In America" founded to legalize euthanasia are his top priorities. All of these public policy areas advance what Soros innocuously calls the "open society." Clearly, George Soros perceives the Bush Administration as an impediment to his public policy goals.

Now ask yourself this question: why would Soros want to see drugs legalized and even marketed by Madison Avenue to the masses, abortions from conception to birth readily available and inconvenient, terminally ill elderly Americans shuttled into suicide wards?

It is almost as if the Hungarian-born Soros, a self-described atheist, wants to import a culture of death and depravity. He is fond of quoting the economist Adam Smith, but leaves out Smith's linkage between a moral society and a successful democracy. By blurring the lines between moral absolutes and creating acceptance of a culture of death, does Soros truly believe that this "open society" nirvana will make this nation thrive or is his real goal the very destruction of our democracy?

Through the financial support of highly innovative, cutting-edge marketing techniques in several drug legalization projects, George Soros has successfully convinced numerous Americans of the value of legalizing marijuana for medical purposes. Successful marketing has basically created a sector of illegal drug usage that is somehow acceptable, based upon the very sympathetic, but emotional argument that marijuana helps relieve pain and nausea in a wide variety of horrible diseases. Indeed, this Soros-funded effort has managed to successfully separate the notion of criminality from usage of marijuana for medical reasons. Pretty neat trick.

Soros' support of legalizing euthanasia seems to have roots in the terminal illness of his own father. According to the Capital Research Center report, Soros "voiced disapproval at the senior Soros' unwillingness to die. His father, Soros said, 'unfortunately wanted to live....I was kind of disappointed in him....I wrote him off...'"

Even beyond the moral question of the devaluation of life, this would be the main sticking point in a pro-euthanasia country. At what point would the elderly or the terminal patient feel pressure to commit suicide to relieve the burden on the family? Perhaps Soros' drug legalization projects and euthanasia projects could join forces to make things really efficient in his new Disneyland of Death here in America.

If Soros' boy Kerry wins in November, call your broker and see if there are any publicly traded mortuaries because it will no doubt be a growth sector in the economy if Soros has his way.

In all seriousness, though, this may be one investment that Soros may regret. Hatred is not a good buy. Blind hatred colors judgment and isn't exactly compatible with implementing a sound strategy. The left seems to be coming unhinged these days with reports of various acts of vandalism, theft, protests and assorted acts of thuggery at Bush-Cheney offices across the country. Multiple counts of voter registration fraud and election irregularities are being documented nationwide.

The Kerry campaign itself has suffered through enormous setbacks, numerous personnel changes and countless disastrous decisions. And this is hardly a campaign driven by supporters who would go over the cliff for the candidate. For them, it is about getting Bush out of office no matter who replaces him. How that effort is funded or what that investor will demand in return is of no consequence to them because the ends more than justify the means.

Americans should heed a warning in all of this. There has never been a civilization that has survived prosperity. The decay of moral codes and the acceptance of depravity invariably set in with a population unaware of its blessings but befuddling by self-centered notions of entitlement. Those who wish to blur the lines between good and evil and plunk the cash down on the barrelhead to do so, do not have the best interests of our nation at heart.
