Liberal Lunacy
By Jennifer King
January 7, 2005
We learned today that the Democrat Party has still not learned anything from their last several years of disastrously lost elections. Senator Barbara Boxer, as promised, joined her House colleague John Conyers in a petulant and ultimately futile protest against the Ohio Electoral College results. The rest of Ms. Boxer's and Mr. Conyer's colleagues were not supportive enough to sign onto this travesty, but many of them nevertheless felt compelled to get up on the stump in order to make pious and sanctimonious remarks about the shortcomings of the American voting process.
Various voices were recorded for posterity by the usual suspects. Hillary Clinton railed against "disenfranchisements" and advised the U.S. to look to India and the Ukraine for proper voting procedures. Jerrold "the Hutt" Nadler thundered, "The right to vote has been stolen." Cynthia McKinney alleged that "voting machines were hacked." Carolyn Kilpatrick was aghast that "men in suits" were actually keeping watch over polling places where *gasp* voters were asked for ID. Jesse Jackson, Jr. advocated voting rights for convicted felons. The exquisitely coiffed Sheila Jackson Lee ridiculously averred, "I came here as a slave, and I deserve to vote." Maxine (hereafter affectionately known as Marxine) Waters dedicated her bromide to Michael Moore, and further asserted that she was "ashamed" that Ken Blackwell was an African-American. Further delusionists posited that the demonic Karl Rove actually manipulated voting machines from within the White House!
Is there no end to the televised lunacy? When will the adults take over? Mr. Conyers and Ms. Boxer will no doubt be feted by the media and we can expect to see them on all the cable shows over the next week or so. Perhaps their little stunt will dovetail nicely in solidarity with their Leftist brethren's expected protest at George W. Bush's Inaugural. This year, they will valiantly try, but won't really succeed with the "selected, not elected" mantra but their actions will be red meat for the Democratic Underground Internet conspiracy crowd - perhaps enough to sustain them until 2006 when the proletariat will finally win over the evil capitalist corporations. Or not. Americans appear to be increasingly fed up with the childish, petulant silliness of the Left.
They yell and scream like thwarted two year olds, they accuse the Bush Administration and Republicans of ridiculous motives, they stamp their feet and declare that Bush, Rummy and Rove are liars, Nazis and madmen. And then they seat Michael Moore, aka "Lumpy Reifenstahl", next to an ex-President at their convention. Who can take them seriously, anymore?
Likewise, the Left is always stone deaf to its own rank hypocrisy. Over on the West Coast, the governorship of Washington State is in serious and real danger of being stolen through demonstrable fraud. Christine Gregoire, the Democrat, lost the first election and two subsequent recounts. Then, lo and behold, enough votes emerged to declare her the winner over Republican Dino Rossi - by 129 ballots. No more recounts needed, election over, roll out the red carpet. However, these newly discovered ballots are unquestionably curious - in one case it is alleged that the same address was used on over 500 ballots and in several counties the vote total exceeded the registered voting population by 8,500 people. The ballots have been irrevocably tainted by elections workers who "enhanced" more than 55,000 of them. Likewise, there is much evidence that members of the military were disenfranchised and that their votes weren't counted. Mr. Rossi, sensibly, is demanding a "revote", which has the liberal pundits aghast. Where are Mr. Conyers and Ms. Boxer, Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama? Whatever happened to "count every vote"?
In Ohio, President Bush won over Senator Kerry by 118,000 votes. You'd need a lot of chads to overcome that. Nevertheless, the ever-diminishing Jesse Jackson showed up to protest - what else - minority disenfranchisement and today a parade of liberals have taken to the podium to allege outrageous acts of malfeasance for which they have provided no proof. These hideous accounts are meant, tiresomely, to once again paint the Republicans as closet racists in the hope of retaining the dwindling black vote. At the same time, Democrats feel perfectly justified in spewing horrifically racist diatribes against those ungrateful sorts who have actually dared to leave their plantation. President Bush has appointed more minorities to higher positions than any other President in U.S. history. However, his appointees are routinely derided, mocked and vilified by the media and political elites. Today, Alberto Gonzales, the first Hispanic ever nominated for Attorney General, is being raked over the coals by stalwart and upright citizens such as Ted "Hic" Kennedy and Patrick "Leaky" Leahey.
Have they no shame? In a word, no.
