If You Put Lipstick On A Pig, Is It Still Pork?
By Steven A. Castleton
February 9, 2009

When Barack Obama became President of The Unites States he became my President. Did I believe his campaign promises about "Change"? No! Did I vote for him? No!

I was raised to "respect the office" of The President of The United States regardless who held the position. But, now I am confused and wondering if President Obama did not really mean it when he campaigned for a "Change"

Let's begin with his Cabinet picks who "forgot" to pay their taxes. It's a good thing none of them are running the United States Treasury. Oh wait a minute...

I could not wait read about what is in the Democrat's Stimulus bill. I was anxious to hear about how jobs were going to be created and saved all across our great country.

Previous Congresses were lambasted for adding Pork after Pork after Pork. So much so, that all members of Congress needed a mass cholesterol screening.

As Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid have said over and over, the Democrats won the Election. Therefore, I am really glad that there was no pork in a badly needed Stimulus Bill. This is some of the badly needed funding those that won the election added to the bill:

$87 million for a polar icebreaking ship

$1.7 billion for the National Park System (must be to get the wildlife stimulated)

$55 million for Historic Preservation Fund

$7.6 billion for "rural community advancement programs"

$150 million for agricultural commodity purchases

$150 million for "producers of livestock, honeybees, and farm-raised fish"

$50 million for the National Endowment for the Arts

$34 million to renovate the Department of Commerce headquarters

$200 million to rehabilitate the National Mall

$276 million to fix the computer systems at the State Department

$6 billion for university building projects (I wonder if this is for any of the University's that ban the ROTC?)

I am sure the above will help Stimulate someone.

The original Senate version had $246 million in "Stimulus" for Hollywood, but since ticket sales at North American movie theaters alone totaled only $9.6 billion someone read the reviews and gave Hollywood's Pork a "thumbs down".

The Obama administration has said that The Stimulus Bill will create about 3.7 million jobs. Well when I do the math, it comes out to over $215,000.00 per job!

When all is said and done, the present Stimulus Bill will cost over $900 billion. That comes to approximately $3,000 for every man, woman and child in the United States. For a family of 5, that comes to $15,000 of "share the wealth". Good thing I did not just have Octuplets.

Oh yea, that's $900 billion on top of the $700 billion that we've already spent!

If this piece of "pork fillet" was truly a Stimulus Bill, wouldn't the jobs be created right away? Even the Wall Street Journal reported that "The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office projected less than half of the $355 billion that House Democrats want to spend on highways, bridges and other job-creating investments is likely to be used before the end of fiscal 2010."
