The Current State Of Political Parties -- Part III
By Bill Burch
June 8, 2009

Independents and Minor Parties

"The failure of our country, the direction that we go as people, whether we move to meet the future or slide back into the irresponsible places of the past, will be determined by those who get involved." --Ronald Reagan

There is a tendency of many people to take an arrogant view towards politics. I've heard "I vote for the person, not the Party" more times than I can count. That comment works in a primary election, but not in a general election.

" If the federal government should overpass the just bounds of its authority and make a tyrannical use of its powers, the people, whose creature it is, must appeal to the standard they have formed, and take such measures to redress the injury done to the Constitution as the exigency may suggest and prudence justify." --- Alexander Hamilton

How about this one, "I'm not voting for (Republican candidate) because he's not strong enough on (a conservative issue), so I'm not going to vote (this equals one vote for the Democrats if you voted Republican in the past), or I'm going to vote (some third party) (this equals one vote for the Democrats if you voted Republican in the past), or I'm going to vote Democrat (this equals two votes for the Democrats if you voted Republican in the past).

"Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter."

~ Martin Luther King Jr.

The problem with the minor parties is that they do not have the funding or plan to win. For example, many people who vote and volunteer for Republicans actually consider themselves Libertarians. But the Libertarians have no plans or money to win elections. So they now consider themselves to be spoilers. The problem is that the Libertarians, who are generally conservatives, help elect Democrats (Marxist) in marginal areas who have nothing in common with the Libertarians.

"Ninety-eight percent of the adults in this country are decent, hard-working, honest Americans. It's the other lousy two percent that get all the publicity. But then--we elected them". --Lily Tomlin

As messed up as the Republican Party is right now, at least they're not Marxist. Furthermore, none of the other parties are anywhere near as well financed or organized as the Republican Party.

"Remember democracy never lasts long. It soon wastes, exhausts, and murders itself. There never was a democracy yet that did not commit suicide." --John Adams

The United States system is not a parlimentary system. Therefore, if you don't win a majority or at least a plurality, you get nothing. However, you don't even need a plurality to take over the leadership of one of the major parties. The Marxists know this. Even though, according to a Rasmussen Poll, only thirty-nine percent of the Democrats prefer socialism An even smaller number are the ones who actually engineered the takeover of the Democrat Party by the Marxist. If you really want to effect change then you need to get involved within one of the major parties and let your voice be heard.
