Our Founders and Framers also believed that government was a creation of the people, instituted not to lord over the people, not to legislate its collective personal philosophy unto the citizenry, but to serve the citizenry; to guarantee each citizen's rights, whether that citizen is of the majority or the minority.
Today, the citizenry has either abdicated its right of power over government, forgotten that government is derived of the will of the people, or both. Regardless of the reason, the citizenry of the United States stands delinquent -- for the most part -- in its responsibility to provide not only oversight to the governmental process, but to its responsibility to protect government -- by virtue of the election process -- from the politically opportunistic and those whose goal it is to destroy our country.
As we stand witness to an egregious abuse of power by the Executive and Legislative Branches of government in the legislation and execution of exchanging public funds -- taxpayer dollars -- for special interest ownership of private sector companies, many of us recognize that we stand at a moment in time when the counter-culture "revolutionaries" of the 1960s and 1970s -- neo-Marxists who adhere to the philosophies of Saul Alinsky and Frankfurt School -- are now in control of our government and that they intend to "re-invent" our nation in an effort to transform it into a Socialist Democracy, not unlike the failed model of many European nations.
Today, because of neglecting our constitutional duty to civic responsibility and governmental oversight, politics has replaced government and Marxist collectivist ideology has replaced the philosophies and belief systems of our Founders and Framers and we have only ourselves to blame.
"We hold these truths to be self-evident..."
"Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shewn, that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security."
Today, we are told by the powers that be that if you believe in defending the United States Constitution, that if you believe in the sanctity of our Charters of Freedom, that if you believe in sovereignty and allegiance to our great nation, that the Department of Homeland Security considers you someone about whom they should be concerned. What a difference forty years makes.
As we celebrate the 233rd anniversary of the birth of our nation, no doubt we will all enjoy the pomp and circumstance, the family gatherings and community events, and rightly so. We are right to celebrate the incredible achievements of those great men who had the vision of liberty and freedom, not just for our country, but for all men and women everywhere and anywhere. But as we celebrate, I dare say, it is time for some solemn reflection.
