Blue State Dems Hear From Their Kook Base

Of course, red state Democrats like Sen. Ben Nelson of Nebraska want to be associated with their party's kook base like George Bush wants another photograph taken with Jack Abramoff. Nelson is one of only three Democrats to announce his intention to vote for the nomination. It should be noted that two of the three, Nelson and Robert Byrd of West Virginia, are up for re-election this year. The third, South Dakota's Tim Johnson, is no doubt contemplating his own political future in the wake of Tom Daschle's 2004 loss to Republican John Thune.
The kooks are causing the Democratic Party to melt down before our eyes at the beginning of another congressional election year. In the words of Senate Judiciary Committee Member Lindsey Graham, R-SC: "If this is a battle the other side wants to have, we welcome it. We'll clean their clock!"
Amen.
