Shapiro: California Considers Mandated Insurance for 'Gay Infertility'

By Ben Shapiro

For decades, members of the left have insisted that the right is fighting a war on science. But when it comes to the issues of abortion and homosexuality, it is the left that fights a consistent and ridiculous war with reality.

This week, Wesley Smith of the Weekly Standard reported that California would be considering AB 460, a bill that would mandate group insurance coverage for so-called gay and lesbian "infertility." What in the world does that bizarre phrase mean? It doesn't mean situations in which two members of a lesbian couple are both infertile and incapable of conception using some third party's sperm. It doesn't mean situations in which two gay men are both infertile and incapable of impregnating a surrogate mother. It means situations in which gay or lesbian couples can't make a baby by having sex with each other.

In other words, every single gay and lesbian couple on the planet.

The way the law works, gay and lesbian couples would simply have to testify that they have been having sex for a year without producing a child to be considered "infertile," which is idiotic, since baby-making requires necessary components missing in homosexual activity. But nature is irrelevant here. Even though both men and women were, to borrow Lady Gaga's phrase, "born this way," political correctness trumps nature.

Meanwhile, the trial of abortionist Kermit Gosnell continued in Philadelphia. Gosnell has been charged with seven counts of first-degree murder for killing children outside the womb. The testimony is a parade of horrors. One of his workers testified that in the clinic, it was "standard procedure" to cut the spines of babies delivered before an abortion could be performed inside the woman's body. She also testified that during one murder, the arm of a baby jumped. "I only do what I'm told," she said. "What I was told to do was snip their neck." Another worker described a child screaming as it was murdered.

The mainstream media has largely ignored the Gosnell story, aware that Gosnell's post-birth murders are separated from the left's beloved abortions only by a birth canal. As one of Gosnell's workers testified, the workers termed all the babies "specimens" for purposes of creating emotional distance.

Science suggests that fetal development occurs very quickly. But the left isn't interested in science. Leftists like President Obama are interested in ignoring the humanity of the unborn in order to pursue their Orwellian "pro-choice" politics -- politics that leave no choice for innocents who cannot help themselves and lots of choice for both doctors and women who would prefer to think of developing human beings as simple specimens. After all, it was President Obama who, as an Illinois state senator, opposed the Born Alive Infant Protection Acts, which would have saved infants who exhibit "a beating heart, pulsation of the umbilical cord, or definite movement of voluntary muscles" outside the womb.

Two men or two women cannot produce a baby on their own. A baby outside the womb is a baby. These are unassailable facts. But when reality doesn't match the left's self-centered take on how nature  should work, reality takes a back seat.

This is just more empirical evidence of the insanity of the Liberal Mindset, and the immorality of their positions which place themselves above God and nature as the deciders over life and death issues. It proves them once again to be unfit to run even their own lives let alone a nation. It is bad enough you Liberal self-Gods think you know better that we how to consume our wealth and personal property than we do, but when you cross the line and think you know better than we who is fit to live or die, then you have crossed the line from human to devil. As for me, when given the choice of placing the decisions of the worthiness of other human created entities to live into the hands of fallible corrupt men, or relying upon the infallible omnipotent omniscient incorruptible creator, I’ll side with the creator over the destroyers every time. Just how well is that working for you in your lives Liberals? Have you taken an innocent life today? Just how does that make you feel and how well does that define your humanity, the word of which you must continually redefine to fit your own warped reality itself like those other words you so readily manipulate,,,,like truth and Common Sense which become so uncommon when you hold the reins of power over people?

Well said. Hope many read this. I would add that one can only hold the reins of power over uninformed minds. One cannot hold the reins of power over determined free people.

Why not a tax for being white, christian and heterosexual? Tax that would be progressive if you’re married and depending on the number of children you have. That would be sold as “level playing field”.

As a woman who experienced years and years of infertility (before God, yes GOD, blessed us with children without the aid of procedures that go against our faith) I can’t even begin to describe how disgusting this bill is.

Every woman who has undergone the emotional and physical rigors of infertility should be up in arms. Insurance companies find a myriad of ways to deny paying for even the most basic testing and medicines arguing that infertility isn’t a disease or a sickness. The process of trying to justify various treatments is tedious since one needs to look at the health implications and risks and see if some procedures or medicines or tests can be considered important from an overall health standpoint and thus paid for by insurance. Infertility treatments (especially the high hormones used in IVF and similar) can pose long term risks to the mother. Research is still being done to see what risks there are to children conceived in a test tube (IVF) or other artificial reproductive technology (ART). The cost of these procedures and the testing can be astronomical.

Now we have a group of people who think that just because they want to have sex with another person of their same sex they should have the right to VERY expensive treatments so they can have a partially biological child. What they need is a basic biology lesson.

Of course, this whole thing begs the question of how religious based organizations (much like the mandate of the federal govt. to provide contraception/sterilization/etc. by all insurance) will be able to abide by the law. As a Roman Catholic I decided to follow the Church’s teachings and not use any ART that was not considered licit by my faith…that meant IVF was out of the picture. Will this law make an exception for Catholic organizations and other religious groups who see this as wrong? I doubt it, they will simply keep eroding our freedom of religion to press on in upholding an lifestyle that is just plain wrong.

I am vertically challenged and can not dunk a basketball. I demand reparations in the amount of $40 Million because my disability has ruined my dream of a professional basketball career. Everyone owes me. Wahhhhhhhhh. Oh. And I can not get my horse impregnated no matter how much I try. I just don’t understand why I have not been successful. I demand bestiality/zoophilia fertility insurance. Wahhhhhhhh.

Psalms 139: 13-16: For You formed my inward parts; You covered me in my mother’s womb. I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; marvelous are Your works, and that my soul knows very well. My frame was not hidden from You, when I was made in secret, and skillfully wrought in the lowest parts of the earth. Your eyes saw my substance, being yet unformed. And in Your book they all were written, the days fashioned for me, when as yet there were none of them.

I just want to ask a question here. The Gay community wants to redefine the term marriage for legal reasons, as I understand it. Aside from tax benefits and perhaps forcing some kind of social acceptance, it seems to me that one of the issues is to be allowed to raise children. Children are pretty easily indoctrinated and can be taught to behave in certain ways.

I think that children raised by gay parents will be taught to be gay. But somehow that doesn’t seem to be in line with the claim that people are not gay by choice, but by something biological.

People who are gay seem to want their straight parents to accept them and are very distressed when that does not happen. But suppose a child who is straight winds up being raised by a gay family. What happens then? Would the gay parents not reject the sexual orientation of that child if the biological argument was true?

    Honestly this is pretty confusing.

I think that traditional families are marriages. If someone is inclinded to live with a same sex partner, them I would say that consenting adults should be allowed to do whatever they want in the privacy of their own bedrooms, but let’s not call it marriage.

Really, in my seven decades, I’ve heard and have seen some things that were just plain crazy… but nothing tops this one. Two men have sex and can’t conceive, two women women have sex and can’t conceive, and it’s because they’re infertile?!?! And some kind of insurance is going to cover this “problem”?!?! Have I been missing something all of my life?? And the lunatics proposing and voting on this madness are elected California state lawmakers? We have well and truly lost our way! And some of us… our minds!

The argument over gay rights has only one linchpin that they refuse to honestly answer. “Name one species that has ever existed that thrives/thrived exclusively on a single sex mating!”

If there is a second question, it might be, “What conclusive, objective, non-speculative evidence exists that proves that the animal kingdom prefers same sex intimacy.” If there isn’t, then gay and lesbian activities are deviant anomalies.
