Guzzardi: Blacks Point Out Obvious to Obama - Amnesty Means Fewer Jobs, Lower Wages

By Joe Guzzardi

If Barack Obama gets his wish for an illegal alien amnesty, he will have set African-American causes back further than any president in recent memory. During a period when black unemployment is brutally high, either legal residency or a full blown amnesty that includes citizenship would authorize an additional 11 million workers to compete with blacks for scarce jobs.

The Census Bureau's American Community Survey's latest data found the following U-6 unemployment statistics for U.S.-born blacks: young adults 18-29 with a high school diploma, 41.8 percent; high school drop outs age 18-65, 61.0 percent and teens age 16-17, 53.6 percent. The federal government's U-6 unemployment rate includes not only people actively looking for employment who cannot find any kind of job but also counts "discouraged workers" who stopped looking and those who want a full-time job but have been forced to settle for a part-time position.

Obama's apparent disregard for blacks' plights dates back to his administration's first days and continues today. In 2009 Obama supporter Danny Glover charged the president with not doing enough for blacks. Obama retaliated on the American Urban Radio Networks that he cannot pass legislation that favors one demographic over another but could pass "laws that help all people especially those who are most vulnerable and most in need."

But the fact that passing amnesty would devastate blacks as well as other unemployed Hispanics and poor Americans is beyond argument. Anyone who can do simple math can figure out that adding 11 million potential workers seriously hurts the job chances of the 20 million unemployed or under-employed Americans.

Plus there's the ongoing problem of legal immigration that adds about 1 million more workers to the market every year. Legal immigration is on autopilot. Regardless of the depressed economy and high unemployment, legal immigration totals continue at relentlessly high annual levels.

Nevertheless, in his State of the Union address President Obama with the Congressional Black Caucus' wholehearted support promoted amnesty under the guise that those living here illegally are hard working and deserve a chance to succeed. Mr. Obama also called for more legal immigration to, ironically, "create more jobs."

As more amnesty details emerge over the next few weeks, President Obama may find it increasingly difficult to hide from its negative impact on blacks. Earlier this week, two representatives from the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights wrote to Mr. Obama to spell out the obvious—that an "effective amnesty" would result in fewer jobs and lower pay for black Americans. "Effective amnesty" means a bill that would allow aliens to legally remain and work in the U.S regardless of whether they obtain citizenship.

The representatives, Peter Kirsanow and Abigail Thernstrom pointed to a 2008 study their commission funded that found the economics of putting previously unemployable aliens into the job market crystal clear and ruinous: low-skilled blacks compete with low-skilled illegal immigrants, thus depressing wages.

Because foreign-born workers, both legal and illegal, disproportionately compete with black Americans, reducing immigration would therefore disproportionately help black Americans, something Mr. Obama said in 2009 he didn't think he could do.

Some blacks may face hurdles other than immigration when they look for work. But with the political will to do it, changing immigration policy could be the easiest to overcome. Congress should pass true immigration reform that would put rigid caps on legal immigration and at the same time establish mandatory E-Verify that would insure that everyone who holds a U.S. job is legally authorized to be employed.

This is the fifth year he has been talking about amnesty. He knows that Congress will never pass his generous plan for amnesty to 12 million people, but bringing it up right now is extremely convenient for him to keep the heat off him for Benghazi. As more information comes out, his part in those deaths becomes even worse, his lack of responsibility for those people in danger to protect them when he knew the circumstances. An early story on Benghazi said it was a botched kidnap of Ambassador Stevens that set off the whole mess. The ambassador would be “kidnapped” by cohorts in Benghazi and then “rescued” by Obama before the election to boost his numbers as a “hero”. The plot went bad when the SEALs who were told to stand down and ignore the situation went to the aid of Stevens and started shooting the kidnappers to protect him. The mainstream media is just as corrupt, refusing to air any of the derogatory information and keeping the dirty story from America.

Another co-inky dink is that Obamacare is/was supposed to free 11,000,000 people or so from the burden of not being able to afford medical care. Strange to me that the numbers bear a certain similarity. Could one of the “benefits” of Obamacare be that illegal aliens are now guaranteed virtually free medical care?

“Mr. Obama also called for more legal immigration to, ironically, “create more jobs.”

How would bringing more people into the country “create more jobs” unless they brought jobs with them? The only thing increasing the population accomplishes is more people on the government dole because at the same time Obama is trying to destroy employers.

I wonder how these Ivy League, prestigious colleges are able to take all common sense from these politicians.

I can tell you the simple truth for free. It takes a lot of time, effort and money to fabricate a convoluted thought process to justify the complicated wrong. The bigger the ruse, the more it takes to keep it going.

“Oh what a web we weave, when we practice to deceive.”

Obama could have easily applied the “rising tide” philosophy that help the blacks would help America, but instead he chose to sell them out despite their vote for him. I’ve never been one to believe that anyone should “vote by association”, but for Obama to reject them (as he has multiple times) is a further indication of his lacking of character or desire to truly bring “hope & change” to those in need. He is merely going to tighten the chains of socio-economic bondage even tighter. Combine this with a minimum wage increase and subsequent inflationary impact and he’ll be significantly putting more people INTO POVERTY than lifting them from it. He has played America for the fool. He has played Black America for the biggest one of all. While I’m not Black, I am American and my heart goes out for all my fellow Americans, Black, White, Green, Red, Yellow, Blue or Purple … Obama is neither Black, nor American and he has no heart for America or her intrinsic values that have made her so great.

      Obama-Nation is an Abomination.

Yes the legal side of immigration is a nightmare. Yet people will not wake up from it. Prevented and failed attacks before the Twin Towers crumbled, no one is awakened by the government they count on. Results of the hearings on why the “dots were not connected” and still no one is awakened because they trust the government. Ironic that the people wonder why their elected leaders fear them not.
Obama; “There is a (Muslim) Mosque in every State of the Union” and Muslim legal immigration has risen to 700,000 annually in 2011. Numbers matter tremendously legal or not!

I love the thought that we need more unskilled, non-English-speaking immigrants, legal or illegal. At one time no immigrants were allowed if American citizens who could be employed doing the job were unemployed. Obviously, many countries want to get rid of their overpopulation and we have those in Congress who are being paid to make sure we accept this overflow. It is equally obvious that unless we have equality with the countries sending us their citizens, it is a one sided deal, and that we are as a nation are being irresponsible to accept anyone from any country which is encouraging the sin of “overpopulation”.

I disagree Joe. Have current illegals show up at the courthouse, pass thorough background check, pass thorough health screening, give ‘em a permanent, unalterable, photo ID and make ‘em legal. Have ‘em pay social security, medicare, and all applicable taxes, fees, etc. just like citizens but simultaneously cut off all federal, state and local ‘welfare’ to all non-citizens (except childrens’ public schooling) until they earn citizenship but no sooner than 10 years from the date of I.D. issue. No collecting any benefits until they actually become citizens including social security, SSI, and Medicare. Do basically the same with all citizens of the American continents who wish to immigrate here, except have them apply at U.S. embassies or border crossing stations.

Let the market and economy dictate how attractive the U.S. to these potential immigrants.

Black unemployment is a whole different ballgame/problem. LBJ’s ‘Great Society’ has more to do with that than anything else. My possible solution to that is to cut off all government ‘welfare’ programs, period. Let the privates and the individuals be compassionate…government has not, is not and never will be able to handle compassion.

Make it mandatory that all employers check all employees through E-Verify. Make penalties for non-compliance business killing, with the proviso that the employer isn’t held liable for mistakes made by the system. Make it illegal with onerous penalties for any state or local agency to provide any public assistance to illegals (other than emergency room services (for real emergencies) as any country does with foreigners).

During initial implementation, allow for a transition period to determine just how many (if any) of the jobs held by illegals really are jobs Americans don’t want. Require employers to advertise the job, and if there are no (legal) takers after an appropriate period of time we will know that’s a legitimate job for a foreign worker. For however many that turns out to be, implement a non-citizen track guest worker program (after background, health checks, back taxes, etc.) with biometric IDs and government registration.

With the magnet of jobs and welfare eliminated the only illegals entering the country will be truly bad guys, and our Border Patrol can take off the kid gloves they are forced to wear now, and actually protect our borders.

This plan would be messy, but so would any plan, and this one has the advantage that it takes care of the overwhelming majority of the illegal problems, including border security, immediately. It would not encourage a further influx of illegals as amnesty did (and would again), it would clear out all of those here for welfare benefits and any that are taking jobs Americans need.

The other details, the need for reform of LEGAL immigration to favor needed STEM professionals, what to do about “birthright citizenship”, whether to allow guest workers to eventually apply for citizen track status and what the pre-requirements would be, etc, can be addressed later.

One easy step would be (but never will be in our lifetimes) for Congress to admit that the 14th amendment was to insure that freed slaves gained citizenship and for Congress to quit using it as a ruse to buy votes or act compassionate to illegal immigrants. It’s real purpose is long achieved. It should be removed as an amendment now.

Just another reason to vote all the motherless dogs out of office ASAP.

All interesting posts and no easy answer to this issue. I would like comment on something that has not be raised and that is how immigration reform, amnesty or what ever term one wishes to use actually diminishes the effort of those immigrants who came to America legally.

My father immigrated from England via Canada in 1960. He has forever been appreciative of the opportunities that he has had in the US. At the time he immigrated he had to have a sponsor who agreed to take financial responsibility for him if he was out of work so he wouldn’t become a burden on the state. Even after marrying my mother there was still a five year wait from the date of his immigration until he could file for citizenship. During this time he was not entitled to any public benefits. My wife also had to go through the immigration process when I returned from Europe where I had lived for three years. This is totally normal and we complied with everything.

The immigration system has been broken for a long time. Back in the early 90′s we had a large group of immigrants come into our region from one area of the world. Various churches sponsored these immigrants stating that they were religiously persecuted in their countries. The first thing that the churches did was to take the new immigrants down to the various state agentcies and sign them up for benefits (rental assistance, medical benefits, food stamps, etc.) After arriving many of the new immigrants sponsored other family members to come over and the cycle started again with putting those on state benefits. While a good portion of these immigrants have integrated into American society, some and the elderly are simply supported by the state. What ever happened to sponsors taking responsibility for those people who are being brought in ?

Now the message seems to be if you can get into the US illegally you most likely will not be deported and in fact you might be rewarded with citizenship. For how long will an illegal immigrant work at a minimum wage job once they are entitled to benefits, especially the generous benefits that are now being handed out ? The people that have some dignity will work but we will always have a number that would not.

For those immigrants who followed the rules and came to America legally this immigration “reform”, if enacted, is an insult by showing favoritism to one specific group.

I met a black man in Wally World yesterday looking in the Ammo case. We struck-up a great conversation about the lack there of of ammo.

Then it turned really good. Obummer came into the picture and he stated and I agreed with everything he had to say. We spoke of the color of Skin and we both agreed that this wasn’t ever a problem. If Obummer was really an American and upheld his Oath. This man lead the conversation and I liked him so much I gave him a business card and asked him to stay in touch.

Black has NOTHING to do with the POTUS! It’s his anti-American Agenda. It exists. He’s doing it…right in front of you.

The essence of the Posting here is: Blacks, the majority of them, voted for this *sshole JUST BECAUSE HE’s Black. And now he’s cutting their throats with this immigration B.S.

For blacks to finally start to recognize that Allahbama is hosing them just like the rest of the country is like the proverbial shutting the gates after the cows are gone. I wonder how long it will take (if ever) for the Mexicans and liberals to learn the same lesson? They sure didn’t learn anything in his first four years (nor did the blacks. They’re still enjoying “getting the honkies”).

This “transformation of this nation” would be fun to watch if it was just the blacks, Mexicans and liberals that were being used to salve Allahbama’s hatred of this nation and the Crackers.

Or maybe conservatives are the ones that haven’t learned anything and are watching the destruction of what we have “to be fair” while refusing to recognize it for what it is. It’s a plan, not stupidity or inexperience.

Obama is half “black”. He is half “white”. He instructed Holder not to prosecute blacks (Black Panthers)for voter intimidation (and other examples) so he is racist. Because he has heavily favored unions and their thuggish ways we thought he was slavishly pro union.

In reality, he is all those things and more when they can be “useful idiots” for him. What he truly is overall is communist, or if you prefer the “Americanized” word—Progressive. He will use and discard anyone (individual or “group”) to advance his one-world, total statist agenda. He’s spent his life to this point using one position merely as a stepping stone to the next level. Never really doing the job in any of those “positions”. So ask yourself, what is the “next position” he’s campaigning after. Why he’s not doing the current job while he’s using every resource to acquire it…that “next” level. What is “the one” really after?

It’s apparent that Obama is not concerned with Black people because he knows he is going to get their votes anyway. Ill informed individuals just vote the party line and believe all the lies that spewed out. It’s time for black to wake up and stand up against the black plantation that the Democrats have created. We need a new black leader that can lead his people out of the plantation into the prosperity that can be theirs. We need to stop the immigration policy that Obama has put forth.

Here is something for blacks to consider. The use of abortion as a means of brith control is descreating the black population. Mexican’s who are usually Catholic do not have very many abortions. They just have kids. The black will become the lowest minority in America. More Mexicans, less opportunity for Blacks. The blacks need to stand up against the insanity. They will be hurt the most by the new immigration policies being proposed.
