Malkin: Christmas for Obama Bundlers

By Michelle Malkin

Merry Crony-mas! It's time to pass out the goodies. While President Obama's lips champion the middle class, his administration's old hands are preparing to lavish rewards on the creme de la campaign creme: his wealthiest political donors.

Several media outlets reported this week that the White House is considering fashion doyenne Anna Wintour for a possible appointment as U.S. ambassador to Great Britain or France.

The rumored short list also includes Obama campaign finance chairman Matthew Barzun and investment banker Marc Lasry. The three share one common, er, "qualification": Each raked in more than $500,000 for Team Obama 2012.

As previously reported in this column, Wintour held multiple million-dollar fundraisers for Obama in Hollywood, New York, London and Paris -- raking in the fourth highest amount for the Man of the (Glamorous) People. Wintour's $40,000-per-plate dinners attracted Hollywood's biggest leftist celebs.

She went further than just passing around the fashion plate, though. Before Election Day, the fashion world buzzed over the British-born Vogue editor's behind-the-scenes campaign to intimidate designers into spurning GOP women. Such Chicago-style diplomacy will fit in perfectly with the brass-knuckle-wielder-in-chief.

If Wintour snags the plum British ambassadorship as rumored, she will succeed another top Obama bundler known as "the vacuum cleaner." Chicago lawyer and banking mogul Louis Susman (who worked for Salomon Brothers and retired as a Citigroup vice chairman in February 2009) had no diplomatic experience. But he vacayed and sashayed with the Kennedys and the Kerrys in Hyannis Port and Nantucket, siphoned up a total of $240 million for Democrats over the past several decades, and bundled upward of $500,000 for Team Obama.

Ambassadorships have long been used as patronage rewards for deep-pocketed donors, of course. Clinton did it. The Bushes did it. And Hopey McChangey immediately followed suit. In his first term, Obama awarded ambassadorships to California bundler John Roos, who was dispatched to Japan; California bundler and campaign finance co-chair Charles Rivkin, who took up the ambassadorial post in France; law partner and bundler Laurie Fulton, who was sent to Denmark; and Boston money man Alan Solomont, who won the appointment to Spain.

Moreover, a recent investigation by the Government Accountability Institute found that more than half of the most politically active 50 campaign bundlers for Obama won appointments to a presidential council, committee, board or other White House post.

Shameless defenders of Obama's business as usual are now floating the sexism card to defend Wintour's possible appointment. "The snark directed at the idea of Anna Wintour as ambassador to the UK seems to be 99 percent sexism. The bundler-to-embassy route isn't new," sniffed lefty writer Matthew Yglesias.

Silly "progressive." It would be sexist not to heap deserved scorn onto the naked back-scratching at play here.

"It is no coincidence that the best bundlers are often granted the greatest access, and access is power in Washington," a vocal critic of the practice once said. "Special interests," the critic thundered, have "turned our government into a game only they can afford to play."

Who said it? Candidate Barack "Do as I say" Obama, circa 2007-08.

Forget the "forward" rhetoric. Cut the populist crap. Retro access peddling never goes out of style in Washington: To the victor's elitist bundlers go the spoils.

Another transparent display of what makes up the Democrat party and this white house.
What bothers me the most is the usual double standard from the left who will ignore this (among many other scandals and instances of incompetence) whereas George Bush was lambasted for eight years.

Well it’s no darned wonder no one in the world takes us seriously any more. The election and this administration took all the fun out of everything. I tried very hard the other day to watch “The Perfect Storm”, a film that I have been told is really good, and every time I saw George Clooney on the screen I wanted to throw a brick through the TV. SMH.

I’m all for Anna Wintour being appointed as a U.S. Ambassador abroad! However, her post should be in Benghazi with the same level of security that Ambassador Stevens had while he was there.

They all disgust me to no end. The Hollywood leftists who publicly support this guy should keep their opinions to themselves. They are artists – the artist job is to transcend…not advocate. Obama is nothing but a con artist. Clint Eastwood was right – Obama is the biggest hoax ever presented to the American people. He doesn’t give a hoot about anyone but himself and his cronies.

To be the long standing editor of any large, widely circulated magazine, such as Vogue, one would have to be tough as nails, smart, and agenda driven. Anna Wintour, the woman who was used to model the character for “Devils wears Prada” is no push over to be sure. Her ideology makes me wanna spin out of a room and go screaming for the door…but dumb and useless wouldn’t be part of her resume.

Ya know, I highly doubt she would take the position. It’s hard to be the star when singing in the same choir. Anna lives for being the smartest and loudest voice in a room…being in England or any European state for that matter, would merely be yet another gold fish in a gold fish pond…not Anna’s strong suit.

Michelle Malkin is absolutely correct that every President in recent history has done this. Why? Well, it’s not just payback. Anyone who has the skill set and lives within a culture of being able to foist large amounts of money from people, most certainly more than fits in with our present day politicians. Don’t they do the same thing? (I mean really think about it… they all operate the same way.)

How about a more precise topic to be enraged at. Why are we allowing unqualified people into political service? Since when is an ambassadorship a Cracker Jack toy prize? Yes, I am aware that ambassadorships are not voted upon and instead granted by the POTUS. Wouldn’t any POTUS want the absolute best qualified person in those positions? Does our president not understand he hurts himself and his precious image when he throws just any old person into these ambassadorships? Would the outrage be just as complete if Anna found herself in a Libya type scenario? Knowing how inept our President is in protecting his over-sea’s staff/chairs/ambassadors, wouldn’t anyone with half a brain cell left refuse it? I sure as heck would.

Not all liberals are stupid. Not all republicans are smart. Take these people for their stated ideologies..which is bad enough some times, and then really look at who they are. Once you’ve done that…it all becomes very clear what our President is and is not doing for his country and protection of her people.

Because of Obama’s past and present dislike (hatred?) of Great Britain, because of their colonialism of his birthplace (whoops, his father’s birthplace) it only makes sense that he would appoint a pompous self-serving woman of no talent to be our ambassador. At least she will be the only person from this country who will be able to look upon the bust of Churchill which Obama unceremoniously shipped back to the Queen.

Sending this goofball over there will be a perfect match for Obama’s gift to the Queen of an iPad full of his wisdom.

      For JimBo999: lol…got me sniggering at your post. Almost spewed coffee onto my computer screen. Point well taken. : }

I was looking more from the viewpoint of the Vogue editor thinking what would best serve her…not what would best serve our POTUS. But then, Obama seems to not know what is best for him or for the country he is sworn to protect and run…guess the apple doesn’t fall far from it’s tree does it.

thanks for the great post…lol…still giggling over it.

This man who sits in the Presidents chair, knows exactly what he is doing. He is loading as many seats as he can with those who will side with him, and help him with his agendas. With him, it has zero to do with qualifications, but the loyalty. He is merely filling every available seat he can with minions, many unqualified for the positions, but loyal to his agendas and ideals. He is also making it more and more difficult to buck him, as he has chosen a team who make their decisions according to what he wants, not what needs to, or should, be.
Do you really believe that a man like this would actually want to be surrounded by people who do best for the Country and it’s people?. Hell no, he wants yes people, the same as he gives many freedoms out to those on the take, to keep them voting for, siding with , and owned by his free dole, which keeps them under his whip. He has left a trail of FREE CORN, which they eat, as they walk right into the waiting corral and the closing of the gate of freedom, leading to their like it or not captivity, and subservience to him, as long as he continues to GIVE them the FREE CORN/STUFF.
If someone would give you $2,000 per month in cash, and goodies and promises you this will never end as long as you stand with them, regardless of what on, would you question from whence it came, or would you just put out your palm to be buttered?.
There is no such thing as a free lunch, one way or another, you or someone else will have to pay the bill. The free lunch has to come from someone, and as long as they are being generous, do you want to loose that avenue of free stuff, Even knowing at some point that Pandora’s Box will run out of Gifts?.
He is a Fox in sheep’s Hyde, and will tickle your ear with fantasies of good things to come, and offer you much, but for this you must be obedient, and do as you are told. He always has the knife to cut the free ribbon any time he chooses, if you decide to take the deal.

Let me not get started on that idiot that screwed our country and the world.

Hey take your hate somewhere else if you can’t handle the truth about our Libya counsel. You conventiently ignore the ambasssador asked for more protection months before and even that day asked for help to defend against the attack.

What you and others [many of them here] forget is Congress is the one that funds any efforts by the President even though Democrats voted for military action in Afghanistan and Iraq. It is convenient to have amnesia for liberals when you want to attack Republicans. Just as amnesia is convenient when it comes to who caused the economic collapse IE the mortgage market collapse. Maybe you have amnesia because it was prominent Democrats Frank, Waters, Dodd that told Bush he was just trying to create a problem, by asking for more regualtion of the market, when there wasn’t any problem. I guess it is too much to recognize both parties have created this mess and we need to clean out the hornets nest.

      For GrantJrDaniel: Nope, not ashamed to have anyone know who I am. I’ve used this particular name for literally years on many political blog sites. May I point out that it is prudent not to allow all your personal information hang out in the great ether for just any nut job to pull up? You did know that didn’t you? Believe me when I say no one should be flaunting their full name or any other personal information just for the sake of someone’s version of faux credibility. Just a heads up good tip from me to you. : }

As for your misguided statement about former President Bush…hmmmm…don’t believe he allowed any of his stationed ambassadors to be tortured, sodomized (oh yes, for hours those four men were literally raped by hoards of angry protestors…let that sink in for awhile) and ultimately killed…all the while he watched passively from the comfort of the White House via live feed, while staff packed him up to go party and fund-raise in Las Vegas (Viva Las Vegas!) Apparently what happens in Vegas does stay in Vegas.

He could have, should have, had the moral and ethical responsibility to protect his people, regardless how hard that hit his mantra of “GM is alive and Bin Laden is Dead!”

As for stationed troops….you’ve gotta be kidding me right? Vesuvius1313 stated it fairly darn clearly…. in volatile stations, there is always Private and Military protection. Usually a minimum of 15 and upwards of 25 depending on the station location in the world. There had been full protection all the way up through August in Benghazi Libya for our consulate…and they pulled out for rotation without a full accompaniment of fresh troops back in by late August. Someone screwed up big time…and time will only tell if those people who made those calls will ever stand up to the harsh scrutiny of truth and facts. Only time will tell.

Know your facts before reacting. Knowledge is power my friend…and a powerful ally if you allow it to be.
