Kincaid: Republican Campaign Failed to Confront Media Bias

By Cliff Kincaid

The simple explanation for what happened on Election Day is that the American people voted for President Barack Obama because they didn’t understand the nature of his Marxist agenda. But it is inconceivable that the public would, on a fully informed and rational basis, choose a political ideology that guarantees American economic decline and foreign policy retreat.

Fortunately, there is a record of how this happened. The New York Daily News said that GOP strategist Karl Rove, who raised $330 million for his Super PAC to guarantee Mitt Romney’s victory and win Republican control of the Senate, had been advising Republicans to avoid calling Obama a socialist or left-winger. Rove believed that undecided, moderate or left-leaning voters would jump to Obama’s side if that charge were leveled against him.

“If you say he’s a socialist, they’ll go to defend him,” Rove said. “If you call him a ‘far out left-winger,’ they’ll say, ‘no, no, he’s not.’” Rove said Romney had to remain “focused on the facts and adopt a respectful tone” toward Obama.

We see where this got Romney. He was respectful toward Obama, especially in the third presidential debate, but got savaged by the media in the process.

A wake-up call to Romney came on September 21, when Democratic consultant Pat Caddell gave a speech at the AIM “ObamaNation” conference and basically warned Romney and his advisers that he had to confront liberal media bias immediately and alert the American people to the facts about the national security crisis in the Middle East that were being carefully concealed and covered up.

In this riveting speech, which went viral on the Internet, Caddell called the media an enemy of the American people and said it was absolutely imperative that Romney and his campaign understand they were up against two major forces in society—the Democratic Party and the media. But it didn’t happen. There was no urgency. It was if Romney and his advisers thought he could coast to victory.

The failure by the liberal and most of the conservative media to truly “vet” Obama continues to be a major failing of our democratic system. Professor Paul Kengor wrote a blockbuster book this year, The Communist, on Obama’s mentor, which is a great contribution to helping people understand Obama’s policies domestically and internationally. But because Obama’s mentor, Frank Marshall Davis, was a Communist, even conservative media organizations such as Fox News were reluctant to cover this topic in-depth. It is reported that Kengor was warned in advance of some of his media appearances not to even suggest that Obama was a Marxist. Joel Gilbert’s provocative film about the Obama-Davis relationship, Dreams from My Real Father, was not covered at all by Fox News. Advertising for his film was rejected by Newsmax, a conservative site.

As noted in a previous column, the predictions of a Romney victory by various Fox News commentators were based on the erroneous assumption that the election enthusiasm was on Romney’s side, and that the true believers behind Obama in 2008 would not be with him this time around. “I’ve got egg on my face,” Dick Morris now says, after predicting a Romney landslide.

“You have more than egg on your face,” countered one angry conservative, who copied me on his email to Morris. “You have misled the American public, the Tea Party and me by making an assumption. I thought you knew what was going on! Your job is to know how people are voting!”

It appears that Romney’s strategy was to let the conservative media take on the liberal press, in the hope that the bias would somehow be neutralized. Conservatives were also told that Romney had a natural advantage as a successful businessman over a President who was presiding over a lackluster economy. In the words of one clever pundit, the assumption was that Bain Capital would emerge victorious over Das Kapital. It seems liked common sense.

But voters didn’t fully understand that Obama did represent Das Kapital, which is the name of a book by Karl Marx that offers a critique of capitalism. And Rove’s $330 million didn’t tell them.

What the commentators who were convinced of a Romney victory also ignored was the establishment of a progressive infrastructure, funded largely by George Soros, which generated grass-roots support for Obama and his agenda and complemented the work of Obama strategist David Axelrod and the others in Chicago. This elaborate network, which operates here and abroad on behalf of what Soros calls the “open society,” has benefitted from the incredible sum of $8 billion from Soros and his foundations.

While Soros is now hailing Obama’s win as an opportunity for “more sensible politics,” veteran conservative activist Richard Viguerie says Karl Rove’s Super PAC was clearly “ineffective” and that Republican donors should never give him a dime again. Donald Trump agrees, calling Rove’s spending “a waste of money.”

In his Wall Street Journal column congratulating Obama and his strategists on their win, Rove gripes about an “anonymous New York Times headline writer” who wrote the unfair headline, “Let Detroit Go Bankrupt,” over a Romney op-ed on reorganizing the auto companies. This occurred back in 2008. It was the only example of liberal media bias that Rove brought up in his piece. Even now, the lesson has been lost on this top GOP strategist.

93% of the blacks voted to keep the Bro in and whitey out. Women voted to keep the right to kill babies. Homosexuals voted to gain minority status under Obozo. His and her spanics voted to gain amnesty for their kind. Welfare rats voted to stay on the government tit. Do you really think they cared about any of the morals in this country? Their voting proved that they didn’t. Don’t blame it on the media, blame it on the ones not willing to fight for their country. Like the GOP is doing now, kowtowing to Obozo led by Boehner.

I agree with most of what you say except for the facts about the MSM. The Republican party has an uphill battle that it will face in every future election. Most people (even some very staunch conservatives) questioned many of my statements because they never read or heard the truth! Most people don’t take the time to investigate any facts that are “stated” in the MSM, they just don’t believe the “press’ isn’t telling the truth. So if most of the electorate never hear or read the truth they remain “ignorant” of the facts. If we would all email/write the major networks and newspapers advertisers telling them we will no longer buy their products or services untill they (MSM) report the entire truth, it would have a large effeect on the income of the networks and print media (advertising is the life blood) I know, I sold (advertising) for a large publishing house! The rest of the issues are for the Republican party to get some gonads and fight the malicious BS from odumbos’ party.

It’s funny. You call people names (Obozo, rats) and then complain about other people’s morals? This kind of childishness is one of the reasons that the Republican party is losing so much ground.

If the republicans ever want to win a presidency again, they will need to go back to the conservative value, get with the people and show they care and take on Reagan’s approach. Instead of campaigning during the Sandy aftermath, him and his people should have been right there bringing clothes, food, cleaning up the place, holding children and handing them over a stuffed animal and have your own people covering it because the regular media wouldn’t. The people don’t think the republicans care or hold to their conservative ways which is why moderates, independents will not vote for them and will stay home.

When we compete with comminist propaganda, dead beat welfare roles, free stuff, and other liberal c**p, in addition to corrupt unions and BHO’s minions, it’s hard to win at anything. I have a feeling it’s time for a counter revolution.

I agree! Yes, and it is absolutely true about the MSM liberal propaganda keeping probably millions of good, decent, hardworking parents and families from knowing and accepting the truth about what is going on with this government. We get comments from them here and all over. The MSM is COMPLICIT in this communistic takeover. They make big to-do’s over nothings on the one side, and make absolutely nothing out of real big doings on the other.

When will the GOP start to stand up to the Socialist party. They seem to just sat and take it,what good does that do. Why are so many people scare to say the truth about Obama and his gang?It seem we have no one that will work and fight for what is best for our country. Obama spent getting oBAMACARE THU,THAT WAS 18 MONTHS AND NO JOBS,THEN HE SPENT A GOOD YEAR OR SO GETTING OTHER 4 YEARS.Oppp sorry for cap! And still no jobs. The key stone pipeline would have help get jobs for so many hurting people. Obama does not want oil, coal and gas drill or dug up. He is spending our money on green **** cause he has to pay back for the help he got from them. I no long count myself as a GOP member. I am likeing Ron Paul so much better.he is honest. D.C is like a cartoon show, except it is more of a horror show. Obama brought his vote,by giving to young women free birth control, what a cheap date that is, give to the young Latinos with free green cards and the young people votes, letting they live at home with heath care till 26,guess that is better then giving them a job to go to! It don”t take much for some people to be brought! I am missing the good old American, how sad American will be after other 4 years. How many more American need to dead over in the middle east, before we all wake up to Obama failures,we lost 4 great American already, and no one have push for any answers from Obama and gang! It was a sad day Nov 6 2012. Obama lies and people die!

I know Ron Paul didn’t care for Romney and that’s fine. But, considering who he was running against he should have come out for and endorsed Romney. It could have made all the difference in the outcome because a few million less Republicans voted than in 2008 and I would wager that most of the no shows were Paul supporters who stayed home when he didn’t give his loyal supporters any direction.

mikempm, you forgot about the evangelicals who stayed home, and I’m sorry to say they are my people, because Romney is a Mormon, and those guys are “cultists”. I’m not going to vote for Obama because he is a marxist or muslim or something like that and I’m sure not going to vote for someone in a “CULT”. So instead of voting for someone who believes that Jesus is the Son of God, and I don’t care what kind of emphasis you want to put on that statement, you stay home and not vote, thereby insuring that an anti-christian, anti-American, muslim leaning socialist gets re-elected. Shame on you and may you suffer for your apathy. And don’t come complaining to me when you get dumped on. And you will along with the rest of us! I’m beginning to wonder if Joseph Smith wasn’t right when he said he had a vision and God told him that all the religions of the world were corrupt.

You still don’t get it, do you Mr. Kincaid? Over 50% of the voting population WANTS what Obummer and the Dems have promised. As long as they continue to get their monthly Welfare check, their rent paid, their utilities on and their Food Stamp card topped up, they will continue to vote for the Socialists, and the country be dam**d. They will only start to care when the checks bounce and the food riots start. Even then, they’ll find a way to blame it on the Conservatives. (Don’t think it’s only the minorities, either. White trash is just as bad as any other color.)

Sadly I don’t believe it will change until we (the taxpayers) are broke and there will be no more money to fund ANY welfare programs. Largely because NONE of the Republicans have the ba77$ to try to expose odumbo. My God, what are they afraid of? They simply sit on their backside and allow this phony to RUIN our country. We still know nothing about this imposter and many (including me) still feel he is foreign born. So he gets re-elected by a biased (and naive) majority (slim). Shame on the Republican party for allowing this imposter to get elected once let alone twice!

you can read about Obama vs Obama by Thomas Sowell, Sept. 26, 12. Google this. And another thing why was it aloud to bring up Romney as a Mormon but nobody brought up Obama as a Muslim Brotherhood member and him living with a terrorist. I say we need to get together and protest. TAKE OUR COUNTRY BACK.

Nobody brought up Obama’s associations because that would have to be done by the media. You media types are about to get what you deserve because obama doesn’t need you any more and is going to toss you in front of the freight train, forget about being thrown under a bus.

I’m going to go totally out on a shaky limb and say that by the time of the 2014 elections, Joe Biden will be president. And it will be a total mess, because between now and then someone is going to hack into Obama’s records and release them. They will show that he is illegal to be in office and every piece of legislation he signed will be declared null and void, since his signature on that piece of paper is just about as worthless as mine would be.

If the GOP was afraid to label Obama’s actions as those of a Communist, why not use Putin’s statement to Obama that Russia had tried “Communism and it didn’t work” and explain why it didn’t work to reward people for being irresponsible. However, I think Romney lost because he seemed to be just like GW Bush and McCain, a person who would sell out his Republican principles to “work together”. No one of the Rep base wanted another comprimiser on Constitutional Issues and spending. The issues were debt and energy, but no one seemed astute enough to keep these issues in focus.

Now with a presidential edict making illegals legal about the only solution is to have massive inflation. The Democrats have turned Social Security into a Ponzi Scheme by adding all their spending items and Americans should have been told that fact. Four years ago we had 115 trillion in retirement promises that had been made to Americans and that is more money than there is in the World at the present value of the dollar.

here is what should have been brought out and made a big deal of: Obama’s agenda is hidden here which others didn’t want known. Obama vs Obama by Thomas Sowell. Sept. 26, 2012 This is just an insert Check it out you can read it from the beginning
The first thing that is most striking about that record is the long string of his mentors and allies who were marked by hatred of the United States, and a vision of the world in which the white, Western nations have become prosperous by oppressing and exploiting the non-white, non-Western nations. The person most people have heard of who matched that description has been Jeremiah Wright, whose church Barack Obama attended for 20 years, and was still attending when he began his campaign for the presidency. But Jeremiah Wright was just one in a series of mentors and allies with a similar vision and a similar visceral hostility to the West. Barack Obama was virtually marinated in that vision from childhood. His mother clashed with her Indonesian husband when he began to move away from his earlier anti-Western radicalism and to work with Western businesses investing in Indonesia. As a counterweight to whatever ideological influence her Indonesian husband might have on her son, she extolled the virtues of his absent Kenyan father, who remained a doctrinaire, anti-Western socialist to the end. After Barack Obama was sent back to Hawaii to live with his grandparents at age ten, his grandfather introduced him to a black man named Frank Marshall Davis, who had a long career of anti-American, anti-white propaganda that included a stint as a member of the Communist Party. Davis was Obama’s mentor on race throughout his adolescent years, until Obama left for college. The progression of such mentors and like-minded contemporaries continued as Obama went through Occidental College, Columbia University and the Harvard Law School.
These included Professor Edward Said at Columbia, a spokesman for Palestinian terrorists, and Professor Derrick Bell at the Harvard Law School. Bell was an advocate of so-called “critical race theory” — an uncritical mishmash of notions by a man who said that he saw his role as deliberately annoying white people. Barack Obama literally embraced Professor Bell at a public gathering. After Obama went out into the world and worked for a time in a private business, he regarded himself as being, in his own words, “a spy behind enemy lines.”
Later, when he began his political career by running for state office in Illinois, his campaign began with a fundraiser in the home of Bill Ayers, who had been a domestic terrorist who planted bombs in public places, including the Pentagon.
When this association was later revealed, Obama said that he was still a child during Ayers’ years as a terrorist. But Obama was by no means still a child when Ayers defended his years of terrorism in a statement that appeared in the New York Times — ironically, on September 11, 2001.
This is not the Barack Obama that most voters saw and elected President of the United States in 2008. What they saw was a carefully crafted image of a bright, articulate, energetic and genial fellow who would heal our racial and partisan divides. His likability was high and remained so, even after many became disappointed with his policies. His geniality has carried him over many rough spots. But have you ever heard of a grumpy confidence man? Geniality is a prerequisite for the job. What many regard as a failure of Obama’s foreign policy, especially in the Middle East, may well be one of his biggest successes. His desire to redistribute wealth domestically is part of a larger ideological vision that includes a redistribution of power internationally.
Obama has long said that the United States plays too large a role internationally. His policies suggest that Islamic countries need a larger role. The troubling question is whether he still sees his own role as “a spy behind enemy lines” in the White House. By Thomas Sowell, Sept. 26, 2012

    Sigh!

I wuz hoping that the right would switch beverages from kool-aid and tea to some morning coffee and face the facts.

Here’s a clue: If your main (and secondary, and all) media sources told you that Romney would win, squeak by, landslide, whatever… you might consider an alternative information source.

It was easy to call 50 states. Nate Silver is no genius, he just used facts and data. He took them from all echo chambers, not just the Right’s. The Cable News folks didn’t want to call it because a razor thin forecast kept eyeballs tuned in. Fox/MSNBC are jokes. Guess what – a 6 week old story (Benghazi) is not NEWS. A news cycle is 3-4 days, then another story replaces it. If you want in depth, read about it in a monthly or weekly.

After denial, comes more anger from the GOP? What happened to my beloved party of Eisenhower?

    too bad.
