Guzzardi: July Jobs Report: 'Worthless and Misleading'

By Joe Guzzardi

Here are three sources' views on the Bureau of Labor Statistics July jobs report. Which is more credible?

About the 163,000 jobs created last month, President Obama said that he knew that persistence would pay off and that the nation would "gradually get where it needs to be." July's figures were above the 73,000 average new jobs reported for the quarter from April through June.

The mainstream media, loathe writing critically about the president, called the BLS data "encouraging," "hopeful," and "healing."

Then there's John Williams, a non-partisan statistician who publishes the Shadowstats newsletter that exposes and analyzes the flaws in U.S. economic data. Williams is a Dartmouth University cum laude graduate who also earned a M.B.A. from Dartmouth's Amos Tuck School of Business. Wrote Williams: "The July employment and unemployment numbers published today, August 3rd, were worthless and likely misleading."

Williams isn't trolling for votes. And he doesn't have a four-year unbroken track record of supporting the Obama administration like the media does. Therefore, I'll trust Williams.

Even a cursory review of July numbers proves how slanted the BLS report is. How can the economy create 163,000 jobs while at the same time the unemployment rate goes up from 8.2 to 8.3 percent? The simple answer is that it can't. Job creation was not a positive 163,000 but rather a 195,000 net loss as indicated by the more accurate household survey Williams relies on. July represents the largest monthly job loss in a year.

The media prefers to cite statistics from the payroll survey because the household survey—gasp!—reflect immigration's hurtful impact on employment. Although little is written about immigration as it relates to jobs, it's impossible to ignore it. Northeast University's Center for Labor Studies research found that between 2008-2010, more than 1.1 million foreign-born worked in the United States. Household employment during the same period showed that 6.2 million native-born Americans lost jobs. Employers prefer to hire immigrants for various reasons including their willingness to work for lower wages without health care insurance.

Immigration's negative effect on employment repeats itself each month. According to the Department of Homeland Security, Office of Immigration Statistics, in 2011 the United States issued a monthly average of 75,000 work permits to adult immigrants. Additionally, last year the federal government issued 400,000 non-immigrant visas, supposedly temporary, to overseas workers.

Unbelievably, conditions are poised to worsen. Later this month, under the terms of President Obama's executive order that removes young aliens from possible deportation, as many as 1.2 million of them will receive work authorization. Previously unemployable because of their immigration status, they will now compete with Americans for scarce jobs.

These are devastating levels of immigration for an economy that continues to struggle. Assuming no changes to federal immigration policy, the U.S. would need to create about 300,000 jobs every month simply to get back to pre-recession employment levels. On the other hand, if immigration policy continues as is, then full employment would not return until 2028 at the earliest.

I could write a column ten times the length of this one laden with dreary and depressing statistics. Suffice it to say that every jobs sector is devastated. Only 47 percent of Americans have full time jobs.

Even though the immigration math can't be challenged, the federal government continues on autopilot, importing more and more foreign-born workers despite the obvious pain inflicted on unemployed Americans.

When ‘deceivers and liars’ abound; some of the best of the art are our ‘purveyors’ of government information. All of us that are ‘sane’ know that the Unemployment is more like 18% to 20%. When the Labor Dept. says 8.3% they are only trying to cast their ‘boss’ in the best light possible. Talk about ‘scam-artists’; we are being assured that everything is alright when the bottom is falling out. Ozero’s economic turnaround will happen just about the time pigs, cows, and horses sprout wings and begin to fly. Four years of downward employment and economic numbers should be enough; unless of course, you are a glutton for punishment.

Obama believes in looking out for his people, unfortunately his people ain’t us tax paying Americans. His people are anyone who is not a legitimate US citizen, who believes in God and country, truth, and justice. Unless they are habitual liars, or are homosexuals he appears to loathe them.

To help further break us and to help keep the unemployment numbers high he has changed the law. Now they don’t even have to look for, or get a job in order to draw government assistance. In short he is encouraging folks to become permanent dead beats.

Only the most evil, stupid, or ignorant person could ever vote for this man in good conscience. Did I miss a few choice adjectives, if so I am sorry, there are just not enough foul words to describe this person we call our president?

Let’s see how many blacks vote against him? If they are not racist they will desert him and vote for the Reublican who believes in God and country, and who has a proven track record of success in business. We can ill afford to suffer through another four years of Obama The Terrible (the king who never was) and his mascot, the Jack ***, braying, “It he fault, it he fault, he fault.”

163,000 Jobs were created, mostly in the private sector which is good because they build wealth unlike the public sector jobs which only consume American wealth in tracking the productive people’s smoke. We need about 240,000 Jobs created each month to sustain our economy and offer a future for our upcoming college and high school grads. Left to the laws of nature which abhors vacuums and promotes balance and healing, the hidden hand of providence working in the background will attempt to destroy the unproductive jobs that are now being eliminated in governments local and no- local. This is a short term trauma to American individuals but a good thing in the long run for the nation as a whole. These type of jobs that are NOT now being created that make up the difference between the 240,000 needed and the 163,000 created. This is just the leading edge of the painful wave that will wash our economy clean as the non-productive missing jobs get re-directed into newly created productive venues. Romney is the type of man who will as painlessly as possible make the American people come to understand this. Obama on the other hand who has no clue, will continue the pain and promotion of government inefficiency because he and hid ideology which produces nothing but only feeds upon the production of others must fight to increase and hold on to those Democrat non-productive jobs that vote him into power and sustain him in power. This is why he has to go as 4 more years of his madness only accentuates and prolongs the problem and the recovery. Vote him gone.

Bill O’Reilly can’t bring himself to believe that Obama is intent on destroying the traditional America.

He needs to GET his information from a no-spin-zone like this one.

The tale of the figures put out by the Gov’t are all baloney. You know it, I know it, and most of Americans are starting to know it. However Obama’s strong supporters cannot see past their noses. This goes to prove that brainwashing works.
