Brown: The Democrat Declaration of Dependence

The belief that no one owes me anything is one of the greatest gifts my hardworking, blue-collar father gave me when I was young. His words carried me through some difficult times growing up, sustained me through widowhood, years back, and helped to shape me into the person I am today.

Once upon a time in America, and not so long ago, my dad's can-do attitude toward life was common place, until liberals and their faithful following began to understand that immense and everlasting power could be bartered by peddling handouts in exchange for votes.

If liberal politicians know anything, it's human nature. If you give people things they did not earn from sources from which they did not contribute, those same people will soon become dependent on whatever you give them. Add to that a bit of Machiavellian trickery to redefine those handouts into rights, and voila! You have just created a permanent voting base.

In truth, liberals simply rebranded the definition of what our founders meant when they scribed the words, "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights." Spinning and twisting the interpretation by suggesting "unalienable rights" are tangibles like health insurance, college educations, and food stamps rather than the intangibles our founders envisioned as "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness," liberals transformed the Declaration of Independence into a Declaration of Dependence. Before long, people bought into their lies, believing they had rights to certain "entitlements" simply because they breathed.

Sadly, these lies metastasized within today's Democratic Party; chock full of liberals so extreme, Blue Dogs have all but disappeared. Now the entire Democratic Party platform revolves around the dangerous and devilishly un-American idea that individuals cannot achieve success without government intervention. They are dead wrong.

That the Democratic National Convention (DNC) would ask Massachusetts Democratic Senate candidate Elizabeth Warren to speak at its national convention in September tells us all we need to know about the DNC's vision for America. Warren's words spoken in 2011, and so echoed in recent days by President Obama, suggesting it is impossible for Americans to attain success devoid of the federal government is an indictment on how far from the American dream they have fallen.

Ms. Warren further suggests that successful job creators are obligated to an "underlying social contract" in order to "pay [it] forward for the next kid who comes along," thereby ensuring future generations will never have the ability to stand on their own without the government.

The fact that unemployment rose to 8.3 percent last week is an indictment on President Obama, Elizabeth Warren and big government Democrats who believe rights are endowed by government. The ridiculous notion that business owners didn't build their businesses speaks to their ineptitude and explains why unemployment numbers continue to move in the wrong direction. Obviously, Ivy League school attendance and acumen are not always mutually inclusive.

Had our founding fathers believed in entitlements over ingenuity, this "New World" would be just like the old one, which is a case study in what happens when liberals are left to themselves.

    “Dependence” is always at a price and the ‘price’ of depending on government is to be ‘made a slave’ of the same. The only way to live is to depend upon Almighty God to help us and to supply our need. For too long people have left the Lord out of the equation and have allowed the ‘liberal’ ‘socialist’ mind set to creep in. With ‘big government’ comes ‘big dependence’ and less authenticity of purpose. Our purpose in life is to give our children and grandchildren [not what we didn't have] but what we had and that, my friend, is a desire to ‘work’ and enjoy the fruit of our labors; NOT the ‘socialist fruit’ [rotten by the way] of taking what others have labored for. Ozero said: “You didn’t build that.’ As though hard work never built anything, BUT hard work and diligence in business and finances does BUILD.

    Sooooo —– if we want to be taxed into oblivion; let us keep the Dems in control.
    Otherwise VOTE for common sense and work ethics in Nov. 2012.

      This article is so right on the mark! The dems do not care if we survive or turn into a third world nation-they just keep buying votes from the entitlement seekers. November is make it or break it time. I just hope Mitt takes the gloves off and lays Obummer out!

      They know they are in big trouble. The lies keep flowing bigger and bigger. They will know no end. It is just getting started! They will tell the lemmings anything to keep them on their side! They are a bunch of pathetic losers and more. They are a bunch of stinking communists! They know this is their last chance for 4 more years. But dont think they will lay down and be quiet when they lose. Their minions in the media will hound Romney and the new elected Republicans to no end making up new lies to feed the people.

      People do not think this is the end if they lose and lose big! They will be back with a fierceness! What needs to happen is the new congress should CLEAN HOUSE AND CHANGE LAWS AMEND THE CONSTITUTION TO STRENGTHEN THE PEOPLES RIGHTS. The Congress needs to be swept clean of all extreme socialists and communists. Or at least we need a super majority in the Senate and the House! God help us!

      There are two choices, raise taxes, or cut the programs and benefits that the freeloaders, and government employees (including politicians) have been receiving. Those who are used to having everything handed to them will be difficult to wean off social programs, as will politicians who are accustomed to good wages, per diem pay for expenses while actually working away from home, and those 5 star benefits and pensions they’ve voted for themselves. Cut all these benefits (Social Security is a ‘Trust Fund’ that all working people have been forced to pay into) and use the remaining ones as they should have been used, and maybe things will turn around. But as long as politicians continue to buy votes with the promise of more and more programs, the downhill slide will continue!

    The unemployment has risen to 8.3% because many have probably quit looking for jobs since Obama and the Democrats have been giving handouts to anyone who wants them and not who really needs them. It used to be something to hold your head down when you were on government assistance, but now, it is a way of life for many that display it proudly.
    Vote the right way of our Founding Fathers in 2012 and get back to the real American dream.

    Your military action is causing the national debt.
    War requires deficit spending which can never be repaid.
    If you want healthy bodies for your war machine you will have to pay for their care as they grow up, or you won’t have any bodies which will be able to serve.

      War is not as much the problem, as is getting involved in every other nation’s business, and footing the bill, too! I don’t see how the United States of American became the peacekeeper of the world, but it is obvious that some parts of the world simply do not want peace! We need to shut down all travel to and from those countries, and for any of their citizens and let them learn to deal with their problems from within! Arab, Muslim, and whatever other fanatics will only have things one way, their own, and it doesn’t matter who gets hurt if they don’t get things their way.

    Don’t you dare criticize the “Enabler In Chief” you scumbag bigot. Grandpa was a country Dr who took much of his pay in bushels of corn & live chickens. Poor farm families refused charity because they had pride. They paid “Doc” one way or another. This article hit’s it square on the head ENTITLEMENT is the watch word. But I’m preparing my kids for the future & the battle that looms. Socialism destroys itself, people of pride will someday pick up the pieces no matter how far we fall, remembering the great country we used to be. God Bless America!     The Democrats simply cannot help themselves! Before the Civil War, their leaders had the fun of running plantations. They got to be “Master” and made sure that their slaves were well taken care of with food, shelter, clothing, medical care and of course guaranteed full employment. They were good at keeping their slaves ignorant and dependent;reminding them of their place. Now in the 21st Century, despite all the change, so much remains the same. Once again, they lord themselves over others, playing “Master”, but use our tax money to do it with. Public housing is the new slave quarters and the EBT card has replaced the pork barrel. These new slaves are chained down to a system designed to keep them poor. Most are dumbed down to where they don’t even notice the chains.

      I agree! They think the free ride is a great thing, but in truth, they are hurting themselves, their children and the future of this country, by refusing to take their rightful place as productive members of society. Obama pushes hard to get as many people as possible enrolled in the food stamp program, regardless how much fraud there is in that program. Just yesterday, a woman stopped me as I entered the grocery store, and asked me if I was doing a big shopping. I said no and asked why. She wanted me to use her food stamp card, and give her cash because she needed money. I reported her to the store manager, but I really don’t think the store cares as long as they have sales.

    government dependence is the only reason Obama has any poll numbers at all. What is the government going to do when it is just much easier to collect from the government rather than give. There will be no more money even for the people in the USA that need it and then the S _ _ _ will hit the fan and he will be long gone.

    “Freedom is not Free.” Yet the Democratic Party doesn’t seem to understand what this means. It means that something only has value, what it is obtained by hard work, diligence, determination and blood, sweat and tears. Anything that is obtained freely, has no value, no worth, because it required no sacrifice. All the goods, benefits, healthcare, housing subsidies, education grants mean nothing, if they are just handed to the people who want them. They will not take care of a home they don’t work for, will not buy nutritious food with food stamps, will not study hard to make a good future with a free education. Only those things, that people have to work for, and make personal sacrifices to get, are things that they really value. All else, is dust in the wind, easy come, easy go!

      proverbs 22:6 “bring up a child according to his own way, when he is old will not depart from it.” proverbs 29:15 “the rod and reproof give wisdom, but a child who gets his own way brings shame to his mother”. this shows that a poor work ethic and an entitlement mentality begins in the home.

    the entitlement mentality begins in the home when parents give their children any thing they want with out ever saying no. these feckless parents also never put restraints on their children, teach them right from wrong in accordance to moral absolutes such as found in the ten commandments. the children then grow up having no consciense, such is the case of these massacres at theaters and so on. they also look to government to give them what they want at the expence of those who do wark hard. president obama is a product of this type of parenting along with the majority of those who are fifty years old and younger who have been targeted for dumbing down by the educational system in order to have their thinking done for them. proverbs 22:6 serves as a warning and not a promice. the actual translation from the hebrew is “bring up a child according to his own way, when he is old he will not depart from it”.

    Do the facts matter at all anymore? Why does this writer continue to push this Obama “you didn’t build that” line. Anyone who listened to the speech knows the “that” he was referring to was the national infrastructure. This line of attack is insulting to voters and speaks to the general public ignorance that the campaign assumes exists.

    This writer also seems to imply something is inherently wrong with an ivy league education. I guess she forgets Romeny has ivy league degrees, as do a number of supreme court justices including Thomas and Scalia. Again, she assumes the electorate is ignorant and will buy into this line because Obama and Warren have ivy league degrees.

    She speaks of “liberal lies”, what specifically are the “lies”. Again, she is assuming the voters will believe because she says so and that we won’t ask for specifics.

    Unemployment ticked up because more people are starting to look for work. Our country has had consistent positive private growth for 20+ months. In fact, Obama has created more jobs in 3+ years than Bush in 8 years. Those are facts and nothing to do with politics.
