Schlafly: One Nation Under Government - Not Under God

By Phyllis Schlafly

When Barack Obama promised to "fundamentally transform the United States" we could not have anticipated the extreme transformations he would seek. The evidence is rolling in that he is determined to transform America into a totally secular land where religion is permitted only within the walls of a church and is banned in every public place, public gathering and public school.

Obama tipped us off to his animosity toward religious Americans when, campaigning in San Francisco in 2008, he insulted religious people in small towns. He said, they "get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations."

In April 2009, Obama delivered a speech at Georgetown University, only after his staff had pressured the Catholic college to conceal the monogram for the name of Jesus that was always displayed above the podium. In May 2009, he cancelled the traditional White House event honoring the National Day of Prayer, saying that he would pray only in private.

Obama began censoring religious words out of important American documents, such as the Declaration of Independence, from which he many times deleted the word "Creator." In a November 2010, speech, Obama pretended to quote the U.S. national motto, "In God We Trust," but he changed it to "e pluribus unum" (out of many, one).

When Obama gave the traditional Presidential Thanksgiving Day address in 2011, it's not clear whom he was thanking on this uniquely American holiday, but it was not God.

Barack Obama is trying to morph our traditional religious liberty to the lesser scope of freedom of worship. That means worship only inside a church, or maybe a synagogue, but not any public affirmation of belief in God.

In July 2011, Obama's Department of Veterans Affairs banned any mention of Jesus Christ during burials at Houston National Cemetery. The ban was lifted only after hundreds of demonstrators protested.

In September 2011, the U.S. Army revised guidelines for Walter Reed Hospital to read: "No religious items (i.e., Bibles, reading materials...) are allowed to be given away or used during a visit." The hospital rescinded this policy only after Congressman Steve King, R-Iowa, reported it to the House of Representatives.

In February 2012, the Air Force removed the Latin word for God, Dei, from the logo of the Rapid Capabilities Office, and it was also removed the Latin motto, which means "Doing God's Work With Other People's Money." The new logo says, "Doing Miracles with Other People's Money."

Also in February 2012, the U.S. Army warned Catholic chaplains not to read from an archbishop's letter opposing the Obama administration's mandate that all employers, including religious hospitals, schools and colleges, must pay for abortifacients drugs, contraceptives and sterilizations for their employees. People were shocked by the military order telling chaplains what they cannot say to members of their own faith during a religious service.

A prime example of Obama's hostility to religion is the Supreme Court case of Hosanna-Tabor Evangelical Lutheran Church and School v. EEOC, in which the Obama administration challenged the longtime religious exemption that prevents politicians from controlling the hiring and firing of employees of religious institutions. The church had fired one of its minister/teachers, and she sued to get her job back.

With the help of Obama's Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, EEOC, this case got up to the U.S. Supreme Court. Obama's lawyer made the astonishing argument that the federal government could force the Lutheran church to rehire her, but the Obama administration's case was so ludicrous that in January 2012 it lost 9 to 0.

Obama's first judicial appointment, David Hamilton, had worked for the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now as a fundraiser, as vice president for litigation for Indiana's American Civil Liberties Union branch and was known for blocking pro-life and pro-decency laws. Even the left-leaning American Bar Association called him "not qualified."

Hamilton was most noteworthy as a district court judge for striking down a prayer in 2005 used in the Indiana Legislature that mentioned Jesus Christ and ordering the Indiana Legislature to "refrain from using Christ's name or title or any other denominational appeal." At the same time, Hamilton stated that it is permissible for the Legislature to use the word "Allah."

After that, President Obama promoted David Hamilton to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit.

Another ACLU-type judicial appointment made by President Obama was federal Judge Michael Urbanski. He suggested in court that the Ten Commandments be censored down to six commandments in order to make the posting of the commandments legal under the First Amendment.

Barack Obama has a record of hostility to religion that we have never before seen in any American president.

We are quickly becoming a nation which bullies Christians by threatening jail or fines or both for practicing our 1st amendment rights, while secular and Muslim religion are getting a pass by the christian haters. Homosexuals are at the forefront of the war against Christians, although undercover and are aligned with the ACLU and other such religions. They don’t have a central place of worship, but are using the government and Lawyers to supress freedoms under the guise of illegal law. Once they get what they want, they will enslave the masses.

She failed to say that the only religion permitted (or will be permitted) is Islam. They still have freedom, and protection by the law officials, to do as they please, any where they want to!

The U. S. Supreme Court issued two bans. One in 1962 and the second in 1963. Both bans were the result of lawsuits against the teaching of religion and religious practices in public schools. Basically stating that organized prayer in schools was a violation of the separation of church and state. It was decided that publicly funded schools were an extension of the state, and that organized prayer or bible readings were a form of proselytizing. The bans not only banned mandatory prayer in schools but also banned the daily reading of bible passages.

The lawsuits were supported by several organizations but the most outspoken supporter for banning prayer in schools came from Madalyn Murray O’Hair, the founder of American Atheists, Inc.

I don’t believe Obama had anything to do with removing prayer from school.

I believe he and the other Liberals what Socialism in our Nation and for go the Freedom we have known for so many years. All you people that Obama has in some kind of trans or something if you believe he whats to help America as we know it, had better wake up and see him for what he is. A very dangerous person to be in the White House.
I pray everyday that God still has his hand on our Nation and if he does he does not lose or make Mistakes.

And this man claims to be a Christian. He is a disgrace to the office of President, to America, We the People, and to God and Religion.
He is first, and foremost a Muslim, in works, acts, and deeds. Actions do speak louder than words, and his actions scream of his Muslim upbringing, beliefs and heritage. He will not understand fully his folly, until he stands in front of Almighty God and our Savior Jesus Christ on judgment day, should his path not drastically change before that time comes.
I despise, not the man, but all he stands for, and does not stand for. I despise that he destroys our Country, hates our people, is anti Christ in his beliefs, and that he is just a bad President and leader of our Country. I despise that he is a racist, while asserting that anyone going against his will, his Presidency, his beliefs, or his Character, is a racist. Is this not like the fire calling the coals evil?.

Lastly, I despise that he has the ability to charm so many into believing that he is a good President, and would be good for another term as our Leader.
What we now see of this person is only the beginning, should he get another term. Our Country, our People, our very existence as a Country of free men/women is in serious jeopardy.

America, please show your love for our country in November, and vote this radical out of office. America’s first Black President, has placed a shadow on all future Black Presidential candidates. How could we ever consider another candidate of color.?

      johnsnare,
      Thank You,
I personally hope this does not effect the future election possibilities of a black President. I do hope, however, that America has learned to dig deep, and find out exactly what qualifications one running might, or might not have. The problem with the election of Nobama, is that no one bothered to notice that he came from nowhere, with no experience, no credentials, no Birth Certificate, and not even a verifiable Social Security Number. I am in serious hopes that a grave lesson was learned from this terribly drastic mistake which was elected to the highest office of the land.
He told us of hope and change before he was elected. He failed to mention what that hope, and change encompassed. He said he was going to radically transform America, and most had no idea of what those transformations would entail, nor that they would be to the detriment of America. He told us we would no longer be a Christian Nation, and he is seeing to it that this promise is fulfilled. He told us in so many words exactly what his agendas were for us, but no one paid attention to the real meaning behind those words or agendas.
He is not typical of a black candidate, or President. He is so far left, that he has come 360 degrees. We must make sure that from this election forward, we know as much as can be known of the man running for the office, regardless of color, ethnicity, religious beliefs, and his plans, TRUE PLANS towards our Nation. We must never be snowed over again by false promises, we must never elect anyone again without knowing as much as there is to know about that person, his friends, acquaintances, beliefs, and intentions regarding our Blessed Country. Unlike this one, we need to read any books written by them. Had this been done prior to his election, we would have known exactly what we were voting for. He tells all in his books, which no one bothered to read or digest before he was voted for. He is a Marxist leaning, Muslim raised, Racist. This is all shown to be so in his own writings, along with his own agendas.
Fool us once, shame on them. Fool us twice, shame on us and our gullibility. I would try, and I hope all America will also try, to not judge any future choices by the Ignorance shown in his Election. A man must be deemed worthy by what he is, has been, and we believe will be. Not because one bad apple was found in the barrel, so we assume that all are rotten.
TAKE OUT THE TRASH IN NOVEMBER.
GOD BLESS AMERICA, AND LET US
      PREVAIL IN OUR UPCOMING ELECTION.

Schlafly unfortunately supports “Sharia” Christianity. Regardless of the religion, it has no place in the public square where it is forced down the throat of everyone.

I don’t want to have Islam forced on me, regardless of the teachings of the Koran. I don’t want Christianity forced on me regardless of the teachings in the Bible. But Schlafly, like many Christians, equates prejudice against Christianity with favoritism for Islam and Sharia. She needs to understand that favoring Christianity over Islam is equally as improper under the Constitution.

Those who claim to not want “religion” “forced down the throat of everyone” must assume they are themselves so so stupid and insecure in their own beliefs as to not be able to say a simple NO when they are approached by the “evil” Christian missionary!

The people in America who practice “Sharia” religion are the progressives (or as they should be know – liberal fascist) and their worship and faith in government and the men and women who control it. For the liberal, there is no god greater than government – the bigger the better. It’s pathetic actually, putting one’s faith in a system the liberal feels can grant rights and privilege to them, not understanding the same government they worship and adore can take those rights and privileges away just as easy as they “give” them.

Did you read the article?? Mention of Jesus BANNED at military funerals?? Osama judge rules Allah, ok, Christ not ok. Can you find a more glaring example of religion being shoved down your throat? Hint: It’s not “Sharia” (Muslim word choice, hmm) Christianity if you are only permitted – PERMITTED? to practice it in private. I don’t know whose constitution you’ve been reading, Joelinpdx, but mine says at the verrrry beginning of the list of ahh, God-given rights, “Congress shall make no law regarding the establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof”… Separation of church and state, while not in the US Constitution, means that the state must not interfere with religious practice, not that religion must not offend you personally.

I am a christian. Forcing christianity upon you is not the way I would do it.So long as everyone these days is talking about registration cards ,why don’t you and others like you register yourselves as anti-christians, and when the next natural disaster strikes anywhere you or they happen to be, and you see relief stations set up about with crosses marking their organizations passing out FOOD,WATER,CLOTHING, SHELTER,MEDICAL SERVICE,SOCIAL EMERGENCY NETWORKING,ETC, please have the courage of your convictions and pass them by. Stand up and be counted on newscasts cheerfully show your card that you are anti-christian and will starve and dehydrate yourself for the cause just as long as christianity goes away.Frozen fingers anyone?
But just because you feel this way,NO christian would EVER TURN YOU OR OTHERS LIKE YOU AWAY. SADLY, YOU KNOW THAT as well as others do who will take without giving and be critical of those who do.
To everyone else, RELAX!only a few more months of Obama and he’ll be gone along with all his zars and henchmen and our next president will be , well, more normal

Christians use Leviticus 25: 44-46 which throws out the Ten Commandments by saying that the chosen can seize any persons or property they want and use them as they please.

    Christians promote slavery.

Neither that nor Leviticus are not Constitutional in the United States.

Moses set up the Ten Commandments for the guidance of the saved, but christians ignore them and violate them with impunity.

The Constitution doesn’t create a religious state even though the founders were all devout, even Thomas Jefferson was a Chriatian. They were well aware of how much Christians fight each other and kill with impunity.

Christians use the story of Lot to deny rights to women and they left women exposed to the whims of men. That is why the Wild West was so wild and women had to have muscle men for body guards.

Christians make the same threats that Muslims do in terms of getting rid of the infidels, only Christians and Jews use the word, “heathen”.

The decision on religion wasn’t Obama’s decision. It was a court decision made by the most conservative court of the day during the 1960s.

Muslim’s can’t pray in public either.
If they are working they have to take time off and leave to do their praying. Christians can do the same and employers have to honor their need.

In colleges there is the Campus Crusade which is accepted as long as they follow civil rights laws.

The first three commandments are properly under church jurisdiction.

The last seven infringe upon government responsibility.

The churchs are free to have their beliefs, but can’t force them on others. That is a principle established by the founders.

No where did Christ say that Christians or His followers were supposed to force their religion on others.

He set the example by going into the streets and helping all people everywhere and he told His followers to gain more followers by healing and taking of the sick and the poor. He was crucified for doing that.

Republicans and conservatives don’t care for the poor, even though Christ taught the rich, young ruler that he had to sell all he had and give it to the poor in order to get into Heaven.

Christ also warned people against showing their faith for human approval and said if they did the had their reward.

Instead people are to go into a private room and pray and ask for what they need and God will give in private.

Christ has clearly taught that following Him is a private matter except for helping people and serving as an example.

Max I don’t know where you are getting these ideas about Christians, particularly in the modern world, but they are so far off of the truth. Are there people who don’t live up to the ideals of the Christian faith…yes, actually there is no Christian (except Christ Himself and the Blessed Virgin Mary) who is without sin because we live in a fallen world. Some have used religion as a way to control and hurt others just as some have used government power to do the same thing.

To suggest that Christians promote slavery or the taking of others goods is wrong. And, in modern society they certainly don’t look at the killing of, as you put it heathens or infidels, as a way to force their religion on others. I won’t go through your arguements point by point but I will say that Christ NEVER suggested that following Him is a private matter except to help others and serving as an example. We are called, as Christians to spread the word of God, to evangelize always and to use words when necessary.

One question I do have for you…if Christians are supposed to only serve God by serving others then why is Obama stopping all those Christians (and it isn’t only Catholics) who are trying to do that with hospitals, schools, social services, etc by forcing them to pay for abortificants and artifical contraception for their employees? Mind you, the organizations are not saying that employees can’t use these things only that the organization has a moral problem with paying for them.

We are a Christian Nation founded on Christian beliefs.Over 85% of USA population is Christian. Now we are confronted by a Marxist President and anti-religion groups like the Communist ACLU and Freedom From Religion who are determined to rid all religious words, crosses, prayers and God from everything. They will soon be trying to eliminate Christmas and Easter from national holidays and remove God from all of our money and other areas such as our motto, etc.

We need to rise up and rid the trash from our government and liberal judges who side with these anti-religion organizations. No where in the Constitution does it say anything re: separation of church and state..it only states the our government cannot have or support a national religion but it does say that religion can be feely exercised (not prohibited).

I have read a couple of articles on the Christian faith (i.e. this one and a Christian nation or not)and have read the comment streams. In both comment streams there were several people that just don’t understand what is happening around them. If you don’t want a religion shoved down your throat you are misled to put it mildly. Either the truth is swallowed by you voluntarily or a lie is shoved down your throat. In removing the truth (the Ten Commandments) from the courthouse steps the truth has been removed paving the way for all sorts of lies. Another truth is that Christianity is under attack in this land and only a fool or someone with an agenda will say otherwise. The Ten Commandments don’t promote religion, they promote right and just behavior and when did you ever hear of prayer hurting anyone? I haven’t either. But the real problem isn’t anything other than us fighting and bickering over the little details and not giving a united front against this attack. When Jesus died he was a Jew. We must stop this infighting and face the enemy or submit to his attacks. Sounds pretty grim but haven’t we been doing just that for the last several decades? Stand up and unite!

Jefferson’s “Wall of Separation” separates the administration of Government and Religion, and actually protects us from the very things subversive groups like ACLU, HRC and PP are trying to do. They are trying to separate our Government leaders from God’s beneficial influences. As long as we have a 1st Amendment and a Congress to protect our freedoms, who needs the ACLU? They are an organization of Atheists, Communists, Liberals Unconstitutionalists, wasting our tax money, trying to do what our Constitution prohibits our Congress from doing. Regarding their ability to comprehend our Constitution, free enterprise and capitalistic society, they haven’t a clue (A-CLU). They need to be de-funded!
