Salvato: An ‘Axelrod-esque’ Moment for Gingrich

By Frank Salvato

Almost on the eve of the South Carolina GOP Primary, ABC News is set to televise an interview with Newt Gingrich’s second wife, Marianne, where she claims the presidential contender asked her for an “open marriage” so that he could see the woman that would become his third wife, Callista. Truth be told, this is a re-hashed interview, the original having run in Esquire Magazine in 2010. Which leaves us this to consider: the execution and airing of this interview is either an attempt by a woman scorned to even the score, a politically motivated hit-piece, or both. Whichever it turns out to be, the one thing it won’t be is a game changer.

That Newt Gingrich has had marital issues in his past is common knowledge. Anyone shocked by this news should not consider themselves well-informed. Anyone offended by the marital transgressions of his past should heed the words from a follow-up Esquire Magazine article:

“...Love makes fools of us all, etc., and liberals who believe in parole and rehabilitation really should think at least once before they snicker at the religious folks who have decided to believe in Newt’s remorse for his past behavior.”

In a recent article titled, Political Baggage: Establishment & Media Manipulation, in which I wrote about Mr. Gingrich’s infidelity issues, juxtaposing them to the sexual peccadilloes of myriad Democrat and Progressive politicians, I argued:

“In an age when the world is being enveloped in darkness – both ideologically and violently; when our country stands on the brink of deteriorating from a Constitutional Republic to a Socialist Democracy; when government has grown into such a behemoth that it is on the precipice of being the master to the very people who created it, We the People had better look beyond the imperfections of the personal man where “political viability” and “electability” are concerned.

“Today, as we advance in the 2012 election cycle, We the People need the smartest man in the room at the helm of the Ship of State. We need someone who has humility enough to learn from past errors, correcting course when it is the best choice to make, leading our nation in this tumultuous time. We need someone who understands and respects the knowledge that only history can afford as we – as a nation; as the guardians of liberty – navigate the future.

“What we cannot afford is to allow the narcissistic mainstream media talking heads, self-absorbed political pundits and the self-aggrandizing political strategists to talk us out of the smartest guy in the room simply because they believe his ‘baggage’ is too heavy to carry.”

These words are worth repeating in light of the Marianne Gingrich interview.

What is interesting about this moment in time is the timing. This interview – and remember, it is a recycled item from a 2010 Esquire Magazine interview – was manufactured, produced and “in the can” for use by ABC News for whenever they chose. In fact, the Drudge Report had initially reported that there was a “civil war” among the ABC News hierarchy over whether to run the segments before or after the South Carolina GOP Primary. In the end, they decided to schedule the segments to air on the eve of the primary, a contest in which Mr. Gingrich’s campaign is seeing some mounting momentum. As of this writing, Rasmussen Reports has Mr. Gingrich taking the lead over national frontrunner Mitt Romney. It would seem that just as Mr. Gingrich was experiencing some reward from his efforts in South Carolina, just by coincidence ABC News thought it so very important to “break” an old story.

Interesting...interesting, indeed...

In a November 11, 2009, article in Human Events, Ann Coulter wrote about a disturbing penchant possessed by one David Axelrod, now a senior advisor to the Obama 2012 re-election effort. It seems Mr. Axelrod, an old Chicago Democrat newspaper man, has a fondness for advancing stories about sexual indiscretions – both real and not – about opposition candidates.

Ms. Coulter writes:

“...the only reason Obama became a US senator – allowing him to run for president – is that David Axelrod pulled sealed divorce records out of a hat, first, against Obama’s Democratic primary opponent, and then against Obama’s Republican opponent.

“One month before the 2004 Democratic primary for the US Senate, Obama was way down in the polls, about to lose to Blair Hull, a multimillionaire securities trader.

“But then The Chicago Tribune – where Axelrod used to work – began publishing claims that Hull’s second ex-wife, Brenda Sexton, had sought an order of protection against him during their 1998 divorce proceedings.

“From then until Election Day, Hull was embroiled in fighting the allegation that he was a ‘wife beater.’ He and his ex-wife eventually agreed to release their sealed divorce records. His first ex-wife, daughters and nanny defended him at a press conference, swearing he was never violent. During a Democratic debate, Hull was forced to explain that his wife kicked him and he had merely kicked her back.

“Hull’s substantial lead just a month before the primary collapsed with the nonstop media attention to his divorce records. Obama sailed to the front of the pack and won the primary. Hull finished third with 10 percent of the vote.

“Luckily for Axelrod, Obama’s opponent in the general election had also been divorced.

“The Republican nominee was Jack Ryan...”

Now, I’m not claiming that David Axelrod is behind the coincidental airing of a potentially damaging interview by a GOP candidate’s ex-wife, but when all signs point to “he did it” who am I to argue?

But why would Axelrod, the quintessential poster boy for disingenuous sleaze politics, want to attack Gingrich? Axelrod, Valerie Jarrett and the rest of Obama’s Progressive operatives are certain that Mitt Romney is going to be the GOP candidate in the fall. Why would they want to destroy Gingrich? Simple: They are pushing for Romney because they believe he will be easier to beat.

Defendable or not, in Romney, as the candidate, Obamacare would have to be off the table due to the similarities between the insurance mandate currently in place in Massachusetts and Mr. Obama’s signature socialized health insurance legislation; the Massachusetts mandate instituted under Mr. Romney’s watch. Mr. Romney is vulnerable on his financial history and on many of the positions he took in the past while an elected official. Axelrod also feels that Mr. Romney’s debating style is one that would pale in comparison to Mr. Obama’s. So, in an effort to misdirect – a favorite tactic of the Progressive Left – Mr. Axelrod, Ms. Jarrett and the rest of the non-transparent Obama team float the falsehood that they believe they will run against Mr. Romney in the fall. The media is falling for it – or at least complicit in the canard, and, therefore, the mass of the “I’m too busy and too important to do my own homework on the issues and the candidates” populace drinks the Kool-Aid.

In Mr. Gingrich, Axelrod fears a slaughter in the debates. Even a half-awake second-grader would be able to tell you, with confidence, that Newt Gingrich would have Barack Obama weeping and in the fetal position behind the podium after the first ten minutes of the first debate. In fact, I believe that if Mr. Gingrich does win the GOP nomination, Mr. Obama will be counseled to opt out of any and all debates with Mr. Gingrich. Honestly, if he chooses to debate, we will all understand that Mr. Obama has become a victim of his own media manufactured persona.

Mr. Axelrod also fears a Gingrich nomination for the fact that Mr. Gingrich – even though some of his brethren Conservatives and Republicans try to make the case against his Conservative credentials – has a record of accomplishment in the face of partisan adversity.

As Speaker of the House alone, he presided over:

▪ The successful negotiation of four consecutive balanced budgets with federal spending held to an average of 2.9 percent per year, the slowest growth rate since the early 1950s.

▪ A negotiated Capital Gains Tax cut that saw the investments by the “dreaded venture capitalists” explode by 500 percent, allowing for the creation of over 11 million new jobs through the execution of non-governmentally interfered with Capitalism.

▪ A negotiated bi-partisan Welfare Reform Act that saw child poverty drop by nearly a quarter, child poverty in single-parent households reaching an all-time low and nearly two-thirds all those who left the welfare rolls gainfully employed.

And the most important...

▪ Over $400 billion of US national debt paid down during the years he presided over a Congress that produced balanced budgets.

By contrast, Mr. Obama has given the country a trillion dollar stimulus that turned out to be a golden goose for green energy giveaways and election grease for his union benefactors and “thugtarians,” Obamacare, Congressional gridlock, a diminished stature in the world, $4.6 trillion in new debt and a country so bitterly divided that one is moved to vomit when viewing his speeches about being a “uniter and not a divider.”

So, I will watch the interview with Marianne Gingrich with a skeptical eye, not that I disbelieve her story. As I said before, if you are shocked by the news of Newt Gingrich’s marital issues who are grossly unaware. No, I will be skeptical as to the catalyst for the timing of the interview; for the motives of the interview. And all the while I will try – very hard – not to see David Axelrod’s fingerprints all over it.

As for Mr. Gingrich and the election, my belief remains:

“What we cannot afford is to allow the narcissistic mainstream media talking heads, self-absorbed political pundits and the self-aggrandizing political strategists to talk us out of the smartest guy in the room simply because they believe his “baggage” is too heavy to carry.”

For that matter, I’m not going to let a mealy-mouth Progressive smear-merchant like David Axelrod talk me out of voting for anyone who stands opposed to Barack Obama.

I am appalled that scores of thinking cogent Conservative Americans in the debate audience were once again taken in and manipulated by this Gingrich serial cheater, whose premeditated response became one more act of cheating the truth. If the applause was for the taking to task a Liberal media who seeks to manipulate a Presidential election by asking a question that already was put into our faces by another Clintonian ex-wife Bimbo eruption then yes, I am applauding. To the uninformed naked eye this is what seems to be what took place.

To the eye of ANY one who has dealt with serial liars and cheating spouses, the veiled picture becomes more clear that it was the audience who was lied to when Newt stated that he never asked for an open marriage. Any Christian worth his weight in scripture knows that you will know them by their deeds, not by their words. Newt’s words make him appear like a clever politician who saw beforehand the fast ball coming, waited for the pitch and was able to easily knock it out of the park. This speaks well of the Speaker’s political acumen but little about his core beliefs and character. Newt’s DEEDS however reveal him to be just one more political liar whose very premeditated marital cheating defines him in deed and fact as living the life of an open marriage by engaging in sexual intercourse with multiple women before getting out the marriage contract he had previously signed where he swore before God and country that he would not.

Can anyone prove Newt actually said the words “I want an open marriage” the answer is no. Can anyone deny that if fact by his very actions he was living an open marriage, the answer is a resounding self-condemning YES, and I can assume those who applauded were more interested in seeing a Liberal station media go down than actually seeing the morals of a Presidential candidate go down. The fact that Newts second wife cheated with him on the first is irrelevant because she is not the one running for President to represent the moral standards of the Republican Party, but Newt is.

    I almost gagged when Newt had the audacity when talking about Romney’s Tax returns stating;

” If there is anything in there that is going to help us lose the election, we should know it before the nomination, and if there is nothing there why not release it???????”  Huh,,, This from a man who every other day has one of his ex-wives pop off like a Jack In The Box about how Newt used to pop off his weasel?

This guy is running in the wrong party.  He stated earlier that all homosexuals should vote Democrat so that they vote their actual values and deeds. If that is the case he should be running on the Democrat ticket of multiple marriages, multiple fathers, multiple divorces, multiple abrogations of legal and moral contracts, and multiple action deeds of living a phony life of open marriages where you copulate with any available unmarried woman who bats her eyes and opens her legs. Newt changes wives almost as often often as he changes his story and changes his position which is usually Lotus, not Missionary. His words can deny all he wants that he never wanted an open marriage, but his deeds and actions which are the things sane people judge others by scream that he did.

Is this man really fit to carry the moral standard of the Republican Party into political battle to slay the secular Obamanite beast or is he just another reconstituted Republican version of Clinton who would slay the party’s chance to regain the moral high ground, regain the Whitehouse to re-Constitute our Constitution down into the dust?

Is the immediate but temporary gratification and entertainment of a Newt/Obama debate show worth the next 4-8 years of Nixonian character flaws and failure when the pressure of the office finally forces Newt to revert to his pigmy core values which continually get him and our party into trouble? It is time to move on and take a pass for another more worthy. What gaineth a man if he conquers the Democrats in moral turpitude, and loseth the moral high ground of his country in the process? Do not confuse CLEVER with QUALITY. Do not confuse CLEVER with SMART. Just because we have a sleazy media does not mean we have to accept a CLEVER but sleazy candidate who only looks better by comparison. We have already had to endure the evil divisiveness of CLEVER in human form in our Whitehouse who had we judged him by his actual past deeds and not his words before the election of 2008, would have saved the country more prevaricating immoral non-productive political division.

If asked why should Americans settle for accomplishment over quality, I say why settle for one when the American People deserve both.

You hit this totally out the park, Illuminato.  Very well done!

I hope  those who no longer seem to care about morals and character will at least care that Mr. Gingrich is predicted suffer a humiliating defeat according to all prior polls:

      http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2012/president/president_obama_vs_republican_candidates.html

Keep in mind most of these polls before the democrats had even started attacking him, when they were still focused on Romney.  I don’t know anyone who questions Tom Coburn’s conservatism.  Do a search for him and Newt Gingrich to see what Senator Coburn has to say about Newt.  Here are a few quotes from an article on newsok.com:

“Coburn said Gingrich was “the last person I’d vote for for president of the United States,” the Tulsa World reported.”

“his life indicates he does not have a commitment to the character traits necessary to be a great president.”

“From the perspective of many members of the class of 1994, it was Gingrich who had drained the lifeblood from the Republican revolution with some of his political decisions,” Coburn wrote.

You flatter me, AMVoter.  But I have to disagree that posting facts, (complete with links, as you noted), is personal; nor is it hatred.  It’s fear that Gingrich could possibly be nominated which would almost certainly ensure 4 more years of Obama’s destruction.  As you know, I’ve posted the link to realclearpolitics . com repeatedly to show my opinion is backed up by several national polls.  You’ve seen a lot of what I found and I’m not a professional researcher, nor do I have any connection with politics.  Just wait until Obama and his team start airing the research their professionals have done, along with the spin they add to it.  Newt has given them plenty with which to work.  His history shows he will give them even more before this is over.

inluminatuo….that was very well thought out..

Now I like Newt for several of the reasons you dislike him…I was a street fighter too…thats when I had most of my teeth, which were often knocked out in dumb brawls….and I listen and watch Obimbo and say WE ARE IN DEEP MANURE!

Obama has a tendency (understatement) to believe his own press releases…he truly loves himself and doesn’t realize he as king has no clothes…he has such tremendous monetary support from people like George Soros that he feels he just can’t lose this battle…unless….

That unless brings me to Newt…Newt is a professional Street Fighter…a “go for the groin” type street fughter…

I have to believe he has gone through the turmoils associated with a person who has begun to change his life…from a Belief point of view…I believe him a CHristian most of the time, and rest of the time hes still a “STREET FIGHTER”…

While I might sound as tho my prayers asking His help to save our Republic are being answered at His own pace, I can’t ignore that Newt is just the street fighter we need…

To not believe this I would be supporting everyones’ criticisms of Newt’s past behaviors as tho they were his current behaviors…in other words I would be saying Newt asked for and received forgiveness from the Lord, but I still don’t forgive him, hes evil and the Lord was wrong in forgiving him.

If for one moment I thought my sins were not forgiven…I would say “thats the Devil talking…he doesn’t want me to believe in my Lord…”…and I guess I’d have to ask Him to forget that doubt and disbelief…

Until then, my money is on the Street Fighter”…we need one, and Romney nor Sortorum are street fighters…no wheres near Newt.

Being a Street Fighter does not mean Newt is evil and grossly sinful…it means he is one MEAN DUDE TO MESS WITH…and he loves America

Interesting article Mr. Salvato, and one with which I agree.  No one including the Christian clergy that endorsed Mr. Gingrich condone any of his past infidelities, nor do we excuse his former wife who was just as guilty in the matter of adultery as Gingrich himself.

Those who have worked in the realm of religion know that forgiveness is utmost in the eyes of God, as is stated in the Lord’s prayer.  If Newt isn’t sincere about his repentence, God will know and judge accordingly.

Mary Magdalene would have been stoned to death had not the Lord mentioned those famous words:  “Let who among you that is without sin cast the first stone.”

“And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.

Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.”

Let us not forget the real object lesson of the story, which is GO AND SIN NO MORE. Christ came not to enable sin but to defeat it and save the sinner. But as he told Pilot, his kingdom was not of the political arena but the spiritual.

We are admonished as Christians that if our brother sins against us seventy times seven and repents we are to forgive him. The operable word is REPENT. Let the voters decide if Newt’s repentance is genuine or just another pause on the road to perdition.

Render unto Newt what is Newt’s, but render unto God what is God’s and his commandment was to not bear false witness on a marriage contract and commit adultery. Those who want to have their cake and eat it too on the personal level usually prove to be amoral on the political level as well. Amoral people who can put on the face of an immoral or moral person at the drop of a hat to maniplulate you, when put into power become leaders of the most dangerous stripe. You will know him by his deeds and by his fruits. Sorry but I am yet to be convinced that the fruit Newt offers to feed us is not tainted with deception. If Clinton taught us one thing it is that CHARACTER DOES MATTER in our leadership.

      Great comments, Illuminatuo.

It’s getting harder and harder to tell if Gingrich supporters see Gingrich as Mary Magdalene or God.

Forgiveness does not mean that the sinner is to be installed in a high position on earth. Mary Magdalene was not elevated to a position of leadership. She was simply forgiven and charged to sin no more. Jesus’ forgiveness secured her place by his side in heaven if she continued to live her life on earth according to his word.

We can know people by their deeds and by their fruits. It has also been said that those who refuse to learn from history are doomed to repeat it.

As I said in my comments, “If Newt isn’t sincere about his repentance, God will know and judge accordingly.”  Insofar, as sinners not being installed in a high place on earth, it’s obvious that some are not familiar with the Bible, as King David, along with Mary Magdalene, and many others who were gross sinners had extremely high positions on earth, and were given so by God Himself.  To even suggest that anyone is comparing Gingrich to God is silly and stupid.

Do not forget that King David was denied by God with ability to build the Temple but for the blood on his hands for coveting Uriah’s wife IN ADULTERY. Hellllllooooo.

Do you not see some parallels here??? I only wish the non-Christians who visit this site knew the history of what we are debating so they do not get suckered in by the Republican Prince of Pandering.

It may just be my opinion and you can take it for what it is worth, but Newt is the LAST candidate qualified to rebuild the moral temples needed in America to house our regenerated American Spirit.

If Newt Ginrich represents your personal moral standard of human political behavior then by all means vote for him. I however believe this is a battle for the spirit of America at the Spiritual level. Heal the spirit and all else will heal itself.

Why we must be positively unChristian if we don’t want a president with serial adultery, support for Freddie Mac, ethics fines to the tune of $300K, and numerous and sundry other problems in his history. What could we be thinking not to jump right on the forgiven sinner bandwagon and ride it all the way to glory on inauguration day.

I’m not buying it. Gingrich will not get my vote. We cannot expect to replace a Marxist with a corruptocrat. It will come back to bite us in many ways.

Leonidas, another one, and yet another one, out of the park!  You perfectly described how some of Gingrich’s supporters seem more like followers.  They must know who and what he is, but they don’t seem care.  Likewise, they do not seem to care the national polling matchups between him and Obama show Gingrich will lose, which means nominating him would lessen our chance of taking the senate and possibly jeoparidize a large house majority.  He hasn’t won a single contest but proclaimed himself the nominee and recently suggested others, even one who ran better races than him get out, to make more room for him (and his ego).

Obama told us who and what he is and what he was going to do, but not enough listened or believed him; putting their own spin and hopes into his promises.  Some of Newt’s followers are doing the same thing, in my opinion.  He claims with pride to be a “re’al politique Wilsonian” and somehow that is ok with people who in all other respects are conservative.  Do people not know what Wilson did?  Are we doomed to repeat that history on a grander scale?  Wilson gave us the Federal Reserve Act, Federal Trade Commission Act, and our progressive income tax among other progressive gifts
Or like Newt’s serial infidelity, do they just not care?  ‘let he who is without sin…’ ad nauseum.

I’m no Bible scholar but I, too, am reminded of a few verses I’d like to add to this discussion:

Matthew 7:15-20 — Beware of false prophets who come disguised as harmless sheep but are really vicious wolves. You can identify them by their fruit, that is, by the way they act. Can you pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles?  A good tree produces good fruit, and a bad tree produces bad fruit. A good tree can’t produce bad fruit, and a bad tree can’t produce good fruit. So every tree that does not produce good fruit is chopped down and thrown into the fire. Yes, just as you can identify a tree by its fruit, so you can identify people by their actions.
Matthew 24:4-5 — And Jesus answered and said to them: “Take heed that no one deceives you. For many will come in My name, saying, ‘I am the Christ,’ and will deceive many.”

We’ve seen how Newt acted both in his personal life and also his professional life, when he was fined $300k for ethics violations in a republican house with a vote of 395-28.  Like you, I could go on and on but I guess we’ll see it all, in living color, in DNC ads if he’s the nominee.  With Newt doing so badly in national polls against Obama, before the DNC unleashed anything on him, just imagine what the polls will look like when the DNC and Obama come out with the rest of it.  I mean, I believe they set up OWS to set up Romney; but Newt provides them with so much true fodder, the only difficulty for them will be deciding which to use when.

Newsjunky, you are living proof of the saying “Those who cannot DO, teach, Those who cannot teach, join political discussions to delude themselves and convince others they CAN teach.

This party now needs warriors not teachers. You had your turn at the wheel with decades for teaching our children we should look the other way when people pursued their own self interest at the tax payers’s expense. All this country got was more teachers unions who spun us into socialism. Now is the time for all good men/women warriors for truth to dress for battle and come to the aid of their country. For everything there is a season and this is NOT the season for teaching but the season for battle. Our weapons are the ugly truth which set men free, not delusions of corrupted candidates who on the surface are outwardly gentle and pure as lambs but inwardly seek to enslave and devour us like the ravenous wolves in sheep’s clothing. Enter Newt Gingrich. Let Newt Gingrich be offended by a media Liberal or otherwise who merely state the ugly truth of his ugly undeniable behavior. Delude yourself if you will, but when President Gingrich leaves office millions of dollars richer of taxpayer money, do not delude yourself that you made the right choice. At least Romney did not make his money at the American Taxpayers expense through Fannie and Freddie redistibution of 1.6 million dollars of taxpayer money into Newt’s bank account in liberal progessive fashion.

Daniel Webster – “ To preserve the government we must also preserve morals. Morality rests on religion; if you destroy the foundation, the superstructure must fall. When the public mind becomes vitiated and corrupt, laws are a nullity and constitutions are a waste of paper.”

Enter Newt Gingrich and the fall of the superstructure of the American political debate where we crucify the messenger who only speaks the truth to free us and demand we release back upon the people he who formerly lied and corrupted. Not Barabbas but the modern day version of the metaphor lymrick,,,,,Grab A$$ which is the ugly truth of what an an ugly candidate actually was, who would place him and his Blond Darth Vader Concrete Hairsprayed Helmeted co-conspirator in adultry wife to edify her and her values as our first lady.

As a Christian do you not see the problem with this scenario?  Is this the best we have to offer to represent our values as Conservative Republicans? I can only hope the people of South Carolina say one thing when polled, and do the other right thing in the voting booth to vote their consciences and vote their core values and end the corrupt Ginrich candidacy before it can fool anyone else.

Like I said earlier, I wish people who were unfamiliar with the Christian argument had the biblical background to understand the moral questions in the American Christian debate. Christians are a large part of this party and are also struggling to sort out the best candidate and best argument. You would have the GOPUSA staff become the very Secular Liberal Thought police of the Democrat party who currently would silence thoughtful debate and demean the teachings of Christ  as self-righteous and fanatical where all the teaching did was expose the ugly nature of humanity’s worst passions for what they are. Like the ugly things Newt has done to himself and others. Truth is truth which at times becomes ugly and fanatical but when ignored, teaches life lessons you do not wish to repeat.

You can ignore the fall of Newt Gingrich and Like Bill Clinton who Newt went to school on, have him “feel your pain”. I’m more concerned with the pain he dishes out and leaves in his wake when a great mind is no longer harnessed in great truth or great moral clarity but is driven by great ego and great passion. Remember Bill Clinton?

We have all seen Newt in action which is very entertaining, but with great minds like great power comes great responsibility to use those Great God given talents for good. Newt’s record is shady at best on this score. He uses his great gifts to make HIS life better, but the people like his wives who trust him to serve THEM or serve others  usually are the ones who end up feeling the pain while Newt gets richer and ego gets fed. It is the Christian tradition to serve and lay down your life for your friends. Newt always stops short at the “Just lay down” part to serve his immediate gratification which leaves his wives and friends in the cold and the pain. If past behavior is any indication of the future,,,,,, YOU and I crusader, will be another just one of the failed friends when he is in office and secure in his position again. With Newt and his behavior, the Past is Prologue for his future behavior. I like you can forgive him, but choose not to put him into a position of power over me. He like Obama has proven unworthy of trust when given power over people.

RE: “Forgiveness does not mean that the sinner is to be installed in a high position on earth. Mary Magdalene was not elevated to a position of leadership. She was simply forgiven and charged to sin no more. Jesus’ forgiveness secured her place by his side in heaven if she continued to live her life on earth according to his word”

You and inluminatuo are much more learned than me when it comes to the Bible…but explain something to me that makes Newt so unpopular with you as believers…while probably the greatest King, King David, was a terrible sinner.

Didn’t King David send for the wife of his General while the General wasa in battle? And didn’t King David lust for her but actually took her to his bed and committed adultry…made her pregnant?

And to cover up his sin didn’t King David reassign his General to duty that would surely cause his death…murder?

And wasn’t it King David who begged God for forgiveness and mercy?

And didn’t God not only forgive him, but left him as King, rather than dishonor him…He actually continued to trust King David with the job as KING..didn’t He?

      Just Asking….

downdraft, I realize your comment wasn’t directed to me but not being a Biblical scholar, am curious about the end of the Bible story you referenced.  How did God elevate David?  You see, I have no issue with leaving Gingrich a disgraced speaker; it’s elevating him to the Republican nominee that concerns me.

As you know, all national head-to-head polls show Gingrich loses to Obama, most showing him not even running close; a humiliating defeat that will cost us senate and house seats as well.  These polls were all taken before Gingrich’s many, many flaws are widely publicized nationally by the DNC, Obama and the PACs supporting same.

You know how onewildman always has a tag line in addition to excellent commentary?  “IMPEACH OBAMA NOW!”  I’ve decided to have a tag line too:

Anyone who supports Gingrich and also complains about the moral decay in our society is a hypocrite.

You’re right about King David and there were many more in the Bible that God forgave and elevated to high positions.  King David did a lot of things that he should not have done, as we all do, but he was one of the “apple’s of God’s eye” because he was always sincerely contrite. The Bible is replete with gross sinners that God has always forgiven including entire cities like Nineveh.

Mary Magdalene became one of Jesus’ disciples and today is remembered as a great symbol of Christianity not only in the Catholic church but in some protestant churches as well.  Insofar, as your not knowing anything about the Bible — you obviously know something whereas others have misquoted or got their facts wrong. I studied long, and hard to get my degrees so I do know what I’m talking about, and I don’t mean to brag — I’m just proud of what I do.

The point has with Newt like King David, is that when Kings no matter how wise engage in corruption, it is YOU like Uriah, who get put on the front lines to be slaughtered and sacrificed so that the King can have his pleasure at YOUR expense with your woman, and your purse, like another Clintonian scandal that diverts the attention away from the real problems of the country which is the corruption of the American Christian tradition in favor of the secular “anything goes:”that is currently taught in our schools. They loyal Uriah soldiers on the front lines get thrown under the bus to cover the sins of the kings back home in safetyfaster than Clinton threw his supporters under the bus and faster than Newt threw those who trusted HIM to do the right thing under the bus. Religion aside, is this the kind of man you wish to lead you and cover your backs????

      Back to the Biblical judgement of God;

      2 Samuel 12: 8

‘It is I who anointed you king over Israel and it is I who delivered you from the hand of Saul. 8 I also gave you your master’s house and your master’s wives into your [e]care, and I gave you the house of Israel and Judah; and if that had been too little, I would have added to you many more things like these! 9 Why have you despised the word of the LORD by doing evil in His sight? You have struck down Uriah the Hittite with the sword, have taken his wife to be your wife, and have killed him with the sword of the sons of Ammon. 10 Now therefore, the sword shall never depart from your house, because you have despised Me and have taken the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be your wife.’ 11 Thus says the LORD, ‘Behold, I will raise up evil against you from your own household; I will even take your wives before your eyes and give them to your companion, and he will lie with your wives in [f]broad daylight. 12 Indeed you did it secretly, but I will do this thing before all Israel, and [g]under the sun.’”

Newsjunky is correct that the sword never left his house, WHICH WAS THE ENTIRE STATE OF JUDEA. Subsequent internal strife, death, rebellious civil wars of destruction  of father against son, sons against father, social turmoil, internal strife and division, David’s sons fornicating, raping and engaging in unnatural sexual acts with their own sisters, corrupt judges and leaders, with the people following their leaders examples,,,,,starting to sound familiar?

Crusader like the confused who cried for Barabbas instead of he who was the good messenger of truth would crown the messenger with thorns and attack the messenger as uncouth in making truthful sexual remarks about the very sexual subject of Newt’s very sexual fall from grace which is the very sexual topic at hand, because it is crusader who wishes to hide the deeds he himself, like ALL men, have done in the darkness. He forgets that souls like plants only grow in the light. Like most of the men who cried for Barabbas, and like King David they wish to hide their deeds from and cover the truths of their own fall which is the very story of ALL mankind, myself included.  It is those who love God and seek his light who end up growing to full fruition, not those who cover their sins in darkness and wallow in the mud of their immediate gratification. Only God has the ability to cover our sins when Like King David they repent. But even in repentance there is always a price to pay, like the dead baby conceived in Saul’s rebellious behavior with Bathsheba, and the subsequent family strife which followed with the death of rebellious Absalom.  Saul did bed his thousands, David tens of thousands which multiplied his family problems accordingly. Newt claims he repented after cheating on his first wife with his second, and his second wife with his third and would bring his confused circle of life and HIS pain into our lives to soon become OUR pain which always happens when amoral men of his stripe are placed into power over people. Obviously Newt’s core values and behavior reflect crusader’s core values thus he SHOULD vote for Newt. Crusader obviously is happy with the current internal strife within our nation and our own party and prefers business as usual, who believes we can hire satin to cast out satin. Christ was very clear on this subject as well.

But do not seek my truths, seek your own, listen to your own conscience and vote according, but Invite Newt in at your own peril as the greater the flaw in the leader, the greater the flaw in the government.

Lin, what our enlightened Self-proclaimed Religious Doctoral degreed News junky won’t tell you in order to edify herself over the truth, is that King David was elevated by God only up to the point where he followed in God’s footsteps. From the point where he engaged in adultery with Bathsheba and ordered the murder of her husband, from that point on began his fall from grace, fall from edification and ensuing strife of the nation. It was Solomon his son who found favor in God’s eyes who asked not for riches nor concubines nor wealth nor knowledge nor degrees, but for wisdom. God was so pleased that he gave him not only wisdom but all the other things he wanted but did not demean himself to ask for.

Bear in mind that Christ chose the lowly to reveal his secrets to, not he Scriptural leaders of the day of self professed knowledge through study and they whose pride in self knowledge overcame the revealed truths which reveal their lack of wisdom. He chose not scripturally degreed fishers of knowlegable meat, but Fisher’s of men who seek truth and wisdom which is the real meat of the argument. Christ also used metaphor and spoke in parables, which is a form of metaphor, so that only the pure in heart would hear lest the evil understand and turn from their ways.

Beware of our over educated in knowledge and undereducated in wisdom degreed Newsjunkys who when I warned her in metaphor not to get into bed politically with Newt Gingrich, turns in a hissy fit of outrage  and accuses me of her actually sleeping with Newt Gingrich?? If this is the caliber of Liberally educated proverbial confused degreed people teaching our children, I can see why this country is in trouble. There is knowledge which King David dwelt in and fell, and then there is the Wisdom of a Solomon who ended up with the final keys to the kingdom with God having his father David and David’s knowledge bow down to the wisdom of the son who alone unlike the father was given the privilege and the right to build the temple. Look for the lesson of the parable contained within, not the prattle of the points gained in surface knowledge of facts alone.

Let crusader and Newsjunky dwell in the land of the wink and Nod of their Newtonian knowledge and continue American political business as usual. Newsjunky and crusader admire the knowledge of Newt’s words, who like Bill Clinton, lacked of wisdom in his actions which revealed him to be a fallen Rhode Scholar King David of knowledge devoid of God’swisdom. What America needs is a wise builder of temples both spiritually and physically like King Solomon who had both the knowledge and the wisdom of the Lord. Newt is a prime example for the knowledgeable doctored teachers to take a lesson from that proves knowledge is not power without the reins of wisdom to control it. Enter Gingrich and his knowledgeable uncontrollable mouth and appetite.

Newts story is a parable in itself……Learn the inward lesson of the parable, not the ourward appearance of the folly.

Downdraft, Illumanatuo addressed your question about King David earlier in the thread. In addition to that, I suggest you open your Bible and read the story of King David for yourself. It’s always best to go to the authority on such matters.

Again, I caution against equating Newt Gingrich with Biblical characters such as King David or Mary Magdalene. Once more, if Newt is truly sorry for his mistakes and he asked God’s forgiveness with a genuine heart, he has received it.

Newt did not sin against me when he committed adultery. He has not asked me to forgive him. While serial adultery is a serious indication of lack of character it is not even the most serious one in my consideration of Newt Gingrich for the highest office in the land.

For Newt and I the issue is not forgiveness, it is trust based on his record in office. Do I trust him not to let voters down as he did before? Absolutely not. Therefore he will not receive my vote in my caucus or my primary.
