Malkin: The Land of Obama Make-Believe

By Michelle Malkin

Where did President Obama go after killing off thousands of Keystone XL pipeline construction and manufacturing jobs? Why, Disney World, of course. Sabotaging work is hard work for Goofy and his pals.

And where'd he head after that? Why, up to Manhattan for more high-priced campaign fundraisers charging up to $38,500 per partier. The business of wining and dining politically connected donors ain't child's play, you know.

Obama touted a White House foreign tourism initiative on Thursday with Cinderella's castle as his backdrop. "America is open for business," he proclaimed chirpily to the rest of the globe.

Tell that to the Keystone managers in Canada whom Obama and his State Department rebuffed -- after years of planning and review -- in order to appease militant environmentalists and Hollywood celebs. The Animatronic Divider robotically lambasted Republicans for pushing him to make a decision this week. But Senate and House Democrats issued the sharpest rebukes to White House obstructionism:

"President Obama's decision on the Keystone XL pipeline is a major setback for the American economy, American workers, and America's energy independence," Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.V., said.

"The rejection of the Keystone XL pipeline permit is a missed opportunity to drastically turn this economy around. This pipeline would have created thousands of new jobs and helped to ensure our energy independence," Rep. Jason Altmire, D-Pa., lamented.

"This delay is just playing politics with American jobs and American energy security," Rep. Jim Matheson, D-Utah, pointed out.

Lawmakers on both sides of the aisle scratched their heads as the job-snuffer-in-chief bolted to Orlando's fantasyland to promote economic growth. But there's no more fitting place on Earth for the man whose escapist administration occupies the land of make-believe and no consequences. (Bonus moment: Obama got to shake hands with Mickey Mouse, who infamously turned up on a Florida ACORN voter registration form in 2008. Constituent outreach at its most surreal.)

On the very same day he quashed Keystone, Obama released his first campaign ad of 2012 -- hyping his stellar record on energy jobs. It's Opposite Day at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, 365 days a year. Even more comically, the ad touted his exemplary ethics record by quoting a moldy three-year-old endorsement from left-leaning Politifact. And as bipartisan Capitol Hill outrage over the half-billion-dollar Solyndra solar stimulus bust mounts, Obama had the nerve to sprinkle his inaugural campaign spot with -- wait for it -- solar panels.

Instead of supporting new infrastructure jobs in America through an energy independence-enhancing project that has bipartisan legislative support on Capitol Hill, the president flew to Disney World to peddle looser visa restrictions in China and Brazil by executive order. He also will expand the Visa Waiver Program (a security loophole-ridden program that was suspended temporarily after the 9/11 terrorist attacks) to speed foreign travel.

In case anyone needs reminding, it was the relentless drive of the tourism industry and kowtowing State Department bureaucrats that led to the Bush-era Visa Express Program, which relaxed visa policies, eliminated in-person consulate interviews and opened the door to the 9/11 hijackers. Brazil is just the latest base for al-Qaida and other Islamic jihadi groups. It does not consider Hezbollah or Hamas terrorist groups, and it disbanded its anti-terrorism force in 2009.

The Visa Waiver Program and other efforts to expedite the tourist visa process also pose continuing security risks because -- as the Government Accountability Office itself admitted last year -- there is still no comprehensive, systematic way to track the 70 million-plus foreign visitors who enter the country on tourist and other short-term visas. Indeed, half of the nation's estimated 20 million illegal aliens are visa overstayers.

How many of the new Disney foreign tourists whom Obama is touting as America's economic salvation will fail to return to their home countries after their Obama World visas expire? We'll likely never know. And Team Obama doesn't care.

In his opening campaign ad salvo, Obama accuses his opponents of being "untethered to facts." But this is an administration that believes lowering visa standards and risking homeland security to pump up Disney foreign tourism is a better path to economic recovery than supporting direct American job creation and enhancing energy security. Like the Disney characters he posed with this week, our cartoonish president is wholly untethered to reality.

Obama cries “America needs an economy that works for all the People.” Never realizing that what American really needs is all of a Liberal mostly Democrat people to get off their duffs and work for their economy, and a President who actually works for the people, but then the socialist liberals would all have to grow up and get work, and their collective of wealth redistributing thieves would no longer be created more equal than the rest of us who do work and not play like our Disney loving Bibbity Bobbity Boob of a President who enjoys the never ending vacationing  good life at taxpayer’s expense.

The Billion dollars of campaign money he has accumulated not by honest labor, but by recycling taxpayer type Solyndra money into his campaign coffers in Chicago style campaign funding will indeed temporarily create jobs and stimulate the economy prior to the election. But when Obama returns from Florida to that Disneyland Washington on the Potomac, He assumes not the mantle the Lion King Mufasa, who gained his food by a righteous kill. Obama is Scar who with his pack of hyenas feed off the productive flesh of others to kill the very thing they feed off of which is the American Taxpayer and our economy.

Obama belongs not in a Disney flick but a worn out Keystone Cops Silent movie where the Cops keep bumbling the job, dropping the ball, and running out of fuel in their out dated cop cars right when the real crooks are within their grasp, but just slip by their fumbled attempts to stop the real criminals from breaking into our homes.

This is indeed the land of Obama Make believe, who would make us believe he is actually worthy to be our president.

Inluminatuo, I don’t even think that ANY of these “visits” are being paid for out of his campaign coffers… I think the taxpayers are picking up the tab for these, as there is some thin veneer of legitimacy to it, and we couldn’t even get a real accounting for the FEC anyway. He is saving all his money for later. It’s just disgusting.

And I am sure that he is just laughing at all of us “milk cows” whose only life function is to help him maintain his Satanic reign.

I have known lot’s of people who worked for Disney in one way or another. Including my father. These are not high paying jobs and never have been on top of the fact when you get a job at Disneyland you start as a part-time seasonal/casual. That means the call when you are need. it takes sometimes more than a year to become permanent part time and even longer to become full time.
So what I see Obama doing is: Pushing low wage part-time seasonal jobs while killing high paying full time jobs. We The People are suppose to believe that Obama cares about the people. Give me a break. If you believe this **** spewing from Obama’s mouth then you need to be placed in a home where you can be protected from your self.
This is not the job creation people need. This is what Obama needs to keep America down and dependent on the government dole.

Dead on onewildman.  It is interesting how moronically transfixed, The Left is, with Hollywood–Disneyland.  Such a, make believe, never never land, and that might be the cause for the trans fixation.  It is also a place, where Stars are treated like Gods, by fawning, servile, lower creatures, hoping to be elevated, lifted, discovered… , so The Obamas, likely feel most comfortable, at home.

Movie Stars, that have done the box office hit, seem to glide effortlessly into being, experts in all things and most willing to tell everyone, what to do and what not to do.  Perfect setting for a no nothing, community organizer, that mysteriously, rocketed to The Presidency.

In one movie, and I cannot mention the name, nor names, because of the loving, embracing, compassionate, LEFT, I was allowed to put together two scenes, direct the actors, when the Assistant Director stormed off the set, in a dispute with the Director.  Had no idea who the Director really was, as this was a small, historical film.  No way that he might be famous, so not a fear at all by me.  It went off smoothly.  Like Tinker Bell magic, I was treated by the crew, well, as if I had elevated to some kind of, Divine Being.  The wooden puppet turned into a human being.  It was weird.  Made me feel a bit uncomfortable and made me think about the strange land I had stumbled into, even though, I was on the set before this.

This Class System, demands, The Untouchables, The Servants, The Kings & Queens.  Having a strong, educated, well compensated, People, does not fit into the Power Elite, The Establishment, The Internationalist agenda.  The Founding Fathers talked openly, that in order for the Representative Republic to work, to survive, to avoid con-men…, to avoid tyranny from the Government, resulting in We The People, becoming mere subjects of the State, that a vibrant, independent, well off People needed to be had.

And so the deconstruction of what is called The Middle Class, the explosion of the dependent Nanny State minions, the infusion of culturally alien peoples, DIVERSITY, dissolving The Bill of Rights & Constitution, rendering the States into mere Shires of the all powerful Kingdom, the siren call of vapid consumerism, the wrecking of the common Religion, the wrecking of marriage, the destruction of morality, the strangle hold of the State in Education, the end of free communication, disarming the People…  is most indeed the agenda of, Tyrannical Forces.

Funny, I do not think that, Walt Disney himself, would approve of what is happening these days, not at all but he is dead.  Humm, is he voting again?  Surely not for this mess.

Don’t the American citizens get it?   Obummer and his so call administration wants the American middle class to become dependent on the Federal Government.  Comment: “A dependent society becomes a controlled Society.  This is obviously his agenda.  Wake up America!  The labor unions, however necessary in many instances, is falling for his agenda hook, line and sinker.

I saw a bumper sticker or slogan somewhere that said….
“If you voted for Obama to prove you weren’t a racist, PLEASE vote for someone else in 2012 to prove you’re not an idiot”

How can ANYONE with half a brain vote for this guy again? He’s been in Fantasy Land ever since he became president. “Obama touted a White House foreign tourism initiative” at Disney World…….and he should know all about tourism ( he’s had endless experience at tax payer’s expense). He should of had Biden (Goofey) & Michele (Cruella Deville) there with him to make it complete!

This Marxist-in-Chief does not care about the USA, American jobs, the economy/ debt, our Judeo-Christian heritage, Traditional marriage & family, or a respect for life (especially unborn children, the elderly and disabled). Barack Hussein Obama cares about one thing……himself and getting re-elected so he can finish his destruction of the USA!

The goal of any socialist, whether they be Communist, Nazis or anywhere in between is not to bring the lowest among us up to our level but to bring the highest level of us down to their level. The aims and goals of Socialist movements are not about wealth, or distribution of wealth but rather about power.

Michelle- as usual, you are right on the mark.  One comment I would like to make, however, I am a solar contractor in California, a Conservative Republican, which may be an anomaly.  I would like to say that if there’s one business that deserved a second chance, it would be Solyndra.  Their product was a unique American technology that was far superior for commercial solar projects to any other solar panel on the market.  The advantages to the Solyndra panel, far exceed those of conventional flat panel solar products. I toured the plant in May of 2011, and the technology and robotics in that plant were unbelievable.  It was easy to see where the $535M went. I was amazed at the speed at which the whole plant was dismantled and sold piece by piece.  China is kicking our collective solar rear-ends because of $35B government subsidies.  Why can’t we put money behind a great product, and why can’t we recognize one when it comes along?

The way our capitalistic system works, it happens to be the survival of the fittest, which in most cases, are the ones that have the potential to make the most money for the investors. I do not know the details on why Solyndra ended up declaring bankruptcy but it is very suspicious because it happened so quickly after a 535 million dollar infusion of cash from the federal government. One would have thought that the business plan would have been clear enough to show how that much money would be used, and the ROI clearly calculated to justify the investment before the money was approved.  Also, when coming into a venture based investment late, as the US government did, normally the late investor (in this case the US govt) would be able to dictate terms including equity ownership and investment recovery upon failure of the business (which happened fairly quickly).  Instead, the original investors apparently were treated to a division of the spoils and the American taxpayers were left out in the cold.  This whole thing smells like Obama political cronism to the max (a planned bail out of the original investors who were friends of Obama).

If solar power were truly efficient I would be all for it. The truth is that the panels on the market only convert about 22% of the available energy from the sun. They are one the least cost effective. They cost thousands of dollars to purchase and install and can take 10 to 20 years to pay for. Sure you save money on your electric bill but at what cost.
As for the solar panels I have seen in my area. At best get exposure to the sun half of the day. Then you also have to clean you panels regularly to keep them as efficient as possible. I have also been unable to find any statement how much better Solyndra was than flat panel cells are. I know that they weren’t twice as good because experimental panels have around 40% efficiency.

      sonpower2012,

The whole purpose of the 500+ million dollar infusion of taxpayer funds, into Solyndra was not for the purpose of creating and/or strengthening, a viable and profitable solar business.  It was to obfuscate the illegal infusion of tax dollars into the Obummer campaign coffers.

A great deal if not most of that funding was quietly diffused and laundered into the Obummer campaign.  It is the only logical answer as to why 500 million plus went in and almost immediately, bankruptsy was declaired and the assets, quickly sold off. (more cmpaign money)

Solyndra may have had the “best” solar panels out there.  But, that was not the purpose of capitalizing it. with  spendulus money.  The Obummer campaign fund rasing operatives, are Chicago gangsters, doing what they do best. Robbing, stealing and defrauding, everyone they can.

I would love to see a real investigation, of not just Soyyndra’s business practices, but, a full probe into WHERE hundreds of millions of dollars in Solyndra’s disbursments went.  I would also like to see where the cash went after the sale of assets.

That investigation will never happen.  Obummer’s Chicago operatives will see to that.

Also, onewildman is right. Solar electric panels at this time are way too expensive to install, as well causing the payback rate in electrical rates, to be protracted far beyond the life expectancy of the panels. By the time the system pays for itself, the system will have to be replaced.

There were a couple of articles in the Wall Street Journal this morning with regard to the pipeline project attempting to justify why Obama did not approve the permit at this time when it was getting all kinds of bi-partisan support in Congress coupled with union support from three major unions.  Most of the justification had to do with a return on investment argument instead of the EPA impact study shortfall argument used by the Whitehouse. None of the arguments are strong enough to justify not approving the project in my mind. To me, this is something that the lead in to the elections this year should be leveraged by the Republican candidate to the max. It is just another blatant, in your face, arrogant decision that is all politically motivated to appease the environmental activist groups in this country. And..and..just another move in his continuation to weaken this country’s energy resource capabilities which he knows will eventually bring down our economy big time as well as weaken our national defense. Obama has to go…he is undermining the country in so many ways.

One of the best kept secrets in America right now is the economic boom provided by the new availability of oil and natural gas fields that were previously unusable. Thanks to the development of new technologies over the last decade, natural gas in particular has become abundant and cheap. This has directly created many jobs and indirectly provides cheap energy and raw materials for other industries. I believe it is one of the few bright sparks in the economy right now and it is keeping the whole country above water.

The left doesn’t want to talk about this because it doesn’t fit the narrative of evil fossil fuel companies and the need for “green” jobs to grow the economy. The only time you hear of it is when environmentalists warn of environmental catastrophe caused by fracking.

I don’t know why the right doesn’t talk about it more- perhaps because it doesn’t fit the narrative of Obama killing energy sector jobs and they don’t want him to be accidentally credited with economic recovery. Of course anyone with intelligence realizes that this is happening despite Obama and his policies.

A true leader would encourage this development and provide the industry with what they need to grow. Targeted infrastructure spending (as opposed to random, pork-based projects) to help these businesses with transportation would be appropriate. The GOP needs to embrace this new era of American energy production and promote it wherever they can.

Once again, thanks to the innovators and risk takers of this country, America is leading the way. We need to make sure the public knows it. Don’t let Obama take credit for this. Make it clear that the GOP is the party that supports this and will encourage it. The Democrats are the party of regulations that stifle this kind of opportunity.

Two things wrong with Keystone; it passes over a critially important aquifer in Nebraska that would ruin the drinking water of tens if not hundreeds of thousands Nebraskans if it leaked; the oil isn’t going to the US, it’s going to China.  They can alter the route a bit to avoid the catastrophic consequences of a spill over the aquifer. Also most of the jobs would be Canadian.

It would do harm to the exposed environment. Considering how many pipelines are already in use in America with a very safe track record. They have been doing EPA impact studies for over three years on the Keystone Pipeline and basically had been approved by the State Department to move forward.  Obama and his environmental minions decided to stop the project and could only resort to the potential impact on the acquifier system in Nebraska and the potential of an oil spill because they have no other reasons to not approve it. These arguments are weak and have been through environmental impact studies and discounted.

This is all POLITICS…period. But, what it is telling the American public, if they would just listen, is that the Obama administration DOES NOT CARE about jobs for the public unless they are government jobs, or jobs in the private sector that fits their political ambitions (like “green” jobs).  They hate the oil, coal, natural gas, and nuclear energy industries which reflects their obsession with the environmental activist agenda in this country. It should also tell the American public that our economic woes are never going to recover under the Obama administration.

Plahcox it’s obvious you no nothing about viscosity. Oil does not soak in or soak up like water. Just get a bucket of sand pour it on a screamed surface. Then pour oil on the sand and see how long it takes just to soak through a few inches of sand. Oh and try to do it in real scale experiment. Remember there are 13 million acres of land and the water is 300 to 800 feat. Also this is heavy crude. Just to get down 300 feet would great deal of time and would require no one caring.  Apparently you did not bother reading the link I listed.
This is just one fact listed many more at the link. Fact: Pipelines are the safest way to transport crude oil and petroleum products. Each year, hundreds of millions of gallons of crude oil and petroleum products are safely transported on thousands of miles of pipelines in the U.S. The vast majority of pipeline leaks are small, with most involving less than three barrels, 80% of spills involve less than 50 barrels, and less than 0.5% of incidents total more than 10,000 barrels. To move the same volume of Keystone XL oil into the U.S. market would take a train that was 25 miles long each and every day. According to Pipeline Hazardous Materials Safety Administration and the Federal Railroad Administration in the U.S., for every pipeline incident that takes place, there are 50 railway incidents
Even the worst oil spill in US history. Much greater than the gulf oil spill did not reach the water table to my knowledge. That happened in Kern County CA around 1910. If you missed it these lines are both monitored and many places where a valve can shut them off.

“The U.S. currently has about 1,861,855 miles of gas pipelines and 95,000 miles of oil pipeline, yet our President believes this one pipeline which would raise capital, increase jobs and support imported oil from an ally is not a good decision.” wrote bna42
True, however, the commitment of the Democratic Party to restricting domestic energy production has a long history and one that seemingly originated with lobbyist’s money and promises during the Carter Administration. For example, a consortium of American Oil companies headed by Exxon had developed in conjunction with the Ford Administration a plan to develop the Oil shales of Colorado, Utah and Wyoming hoping with development to limit the control over the price the OPEC cartel (Organization of Oil Exporting Countries) was able to charge this country for their oil. The price of extraction of shale oil was calculated at about $43.50/bbl with the price of oil at that time about $30/bbl. Industry had built the town of Parachute, CO as a research center and staffed it with high level scientists. Government’s only role was to limit the dumping of cheap oil by OPEC into domestic markets, a typical cartel market strategy. Carter cancelled the contracts, Exxon lost billions and now the US pays OPEC exporters a trillion a year for energy imports.

The resource policy of every nation throughout history has been prohibit other nation’s from doing what first OPEC and now China are doing with the latter trying to buy everything everywhere in the world. For example our nation discovered, but then turning over to the Chinese to exploit a huge copper deposit in Afghanistan. Why? Remember, our two copper corporations Anaconda and Kennecott had just built huge processing plants in Chile which were seized without payment by the government of Chile and our government did nothing. Just this year Venezuela seized Exxon’s holding and in arbitration Exxon was paid a few cents on the dollar. Why? Because the dictator Chavez knew he could get away with it because he had his friend as the US president.

    And now the pipeline fiasco.

Seems Obama is having a grand time going to Disney and playing golf.  Nothing like a high priced fund raiser to make one forget about the rising poverty rate and out of control fuel costs.  There’s too much reality in building a pipe line, this president is going to give us the new era of solar power.  Oh that’s right Solyndra went belly up and took billions of tax payer dollars with it.  No problem I hear Mickey knows how to make electricity from old cheese.  Hmmmm wonder if the environmentalists are okay with moldy chedder.

SO WELL SAID!  I hope the Republican Candidate picks up on some of the slogans that are written by us ‘every day people’ on these posts.  People here have the BEST and CLEAR statements about Obama……………..I just hope the Republican candidate can win.  Newt was brilliant in slamming down the left wing media in the last debate, but I think this is just going to make them HATE HIM more and they’ll go after him with a vengence.  They will claim Romney only cares about the rich.  Santorum is coming off as a real thoughtful and intelligent guy now that he is FINALLY getting some media attention (Remember how he was almost ignored in the early debates).    In spite of all the conservatives who are rallying around Newt now, he’s my last choice.  I’m one of those women that can’t get past his treatment of women (even before the interview with his ‘equally cheating’ 2nd x wife).   I’ve for Romney or Santorum.  Alas, by the time they get to WI, the race may be over…

His choice of venues would be laughable if it weren’t so self serving and just plain dumb.
Self serving because undoubtably it was chosen so da Mooch coulld get a taxpayer paid trip to disneyland with all the presidents security.
Dumb because it points out that Obama’s “Castle in the Clouds” is 100% a fairy tale in substance and so far away from a real Presidents “Shining City On A Hill” that any comparison makes him look like the “Tooth Fairy”.
My sincere apologies to all that spent their own money for a trip to Disneyland that week and were shut out or inconvienienced by Obama’s grab for a backdrop.  — uh –
and da Mooches shaking hands with Mickey Mouse.
