Morris: Enviros Go Nuts - Protestors Sit In To Fight Oil Sands

By Dick Morris and Eileen McGann

The latest environmentalist cause célèbre is to block the Keystone pipeline which would bring Canadian oil sands petroleum to Texas refineries. Already almost two hundred green activists have been arrested at White House sit-ins designed to force Obama to kill the pipeline.

The protests are total and utter nonsense!

Oil sands petroleum is retrieved from the earth by unconventional methods like surface mining since it cannot be extracted through traditional drilling. Almost half of Canadian oil production comes from oil sands and the United States gets about 1.25 million barrels of oil sand petroleum every day from Canada (about one-tenth of our total oil imports). And Canada's production of oil sand petroleum is expected to grow rapidly, offering a key alternative to imports from the Middle East and Venezuela. In addition, the U.S. has about 32 billion barrels of oil sand in eight fields in Utah which are not yet being mined commercially.

But the greens are raising hell because the extraction methods to get at oil sand petroleum generate between six percent and twenty percent more greenhouse gases than conventional oil. They oppose the pipeline because they don't want the United States to use more oil sand petroleum. They would rather we develop clean energy and, in the twenty or thirty years until we do so, continue to use Middle Eastern and Venezuelan oil.

Environment Canada estimates that using oil sand petroleum instead of other oil accounts for five percent of Canadian carbon dioxide emissions each year and contributes 0.1% of global greenhouse gas emissions. (This stat is "wells to wheels" and includes all emissions connected with oil sand petroleum). So, for this miniscule amount, the greens want us to sacrifice over a million barrels a day of oil imports from our politically most reliable international source - Canada! And they want us to forgo the rapidly growing fuel source that oil sands represent.

The environmentalists do not allege, by the way, that the emissions connected with oil sand retrieval harms human health as much as that it contributes to global climate change.

Obama will have to decide soon if he is going to kill the Keystone pipeline. If he does, he will bear the responsibility for our continued dependence of Middle Eastern oil and for coming gasoline price increases.

But unless he caves in to the greens, he risks their wrath on Election Day, decreasing the turnout of this politically crucial part of his coalition.

We'll all be interested to see what he does.

It would not be a great surprise if Obama does scrub the pipe line. The Communist moved into the Green Movement and the Unions years ago with the agenda to dismantel our Constitution and freedom in America.

As Obama is a Communist Muslim he will further that agenda when ever he feels it prudent to do so.

Obama has no desire to let us drill for oil on our own soil.  The progressive liberals have set out to destroy America at every turn.  We have 70 admitted socialist in the White House right now and they will not stop until we have been complety turned into a socialist country.  Shame on them for turning their backs on America.  They need to be locked up for the rest of their days on this earth.

Marxists and Communists have taken over the environmental movement.  It is no longer about saving the whales, trees, desert pup fish and the like.  It is about gaining power over our lives and the American economy.

The storm troopers accomplishing this for our imposter and chief, are the EPA goons Obummer has hired. They make end runs around our laws to accomplish the goal, of a Communist takeover of our government.

The “greenies” as they are called, are the environmental wackos , or as my daughter-in-law calls them “environazis,”  or, are, as another poster put it, “watermelons”

The definition of a watermelon is someone that is green on the outside and red on the inside.

      Nuff said.

Well, let’s see. Obama wants 55.4 MPG for trucks etc by 2025, He wants 1,000.000 electric cars on the hwy by 2015, so it would be no surprise if he scrubbed this project. He wants us off of oil.

Kicking off what campaign advisors have dubbed “energy week,” Barack Obama today called for an “end to the age of oil in our time.” He backed up his trademark optimism with the most dramatic auto technology proposals of the 2008 campaign cycle. Obama said he hopes to see 1 million plug-in hybrid and electric vehicles on the road by 2015,

And just how is he going to do this when he is destroying the coal companies as we speak.  More that 40% of the energy to run the nuclear plants are run by coal.  And where do we get the biggest share of our electricity from the nuclear plants.  Look out here comes the power outages.  Hope we can keep warm in the winter with no coal, gas, oil or electricity.  So tell me how does he think all this is going to come from electricty??????

“Energy Weak” is what he wants the U.S. to be.  That way he can push his laughable mileage mandates, secure business for his Arab Masters, and keep the united States from becoming energy independent.  Hes baws about jobs and then mandates a loss of ober 3000 jobs by responding to a created crisis ala his old Snake of Staff, Rahmboy.
He crows about his “job creating” green business started mostly with government money, and then they go bankrupt.

The dingbats are at it again!  Everytime there’s a way of relieving us of our dependency on foreign oil, they rise up like bats to a belfry.

Looking after the enviornment in which we live should always be a priority, but certainly not to the level that these foolish people demand.  They’ve actually made this movement into a religion that literally worships their “Mother Earth.”

There is no question obama will veto it – he is only interested in two things: getting votes, by whatever means necessary, and destroying our nation. In order to do the latter, he needs to do the former. This is why he is in constant campaiging mode. As for the environmentalists, I think that they should be forbidden to buy gas or to heat their homes. Let them starve in the cold dark if that is what they want for everyone else.

Environmentalists are hypocrites – if they are so concerned about the planet they wouldn’t drive a vehicle, fly in an airplane, take a train or even ride a bicycle; they would live in caves, live off of the land, and make clothes out of plants; until they start walking the talk nothing they say will change my mind about global warming, climate change, animal extinction, etc. Everything they buy – housing, furniture,  food, clothes, vehicles, books, magazines, newspaper, computer, phone, etc. – oil has been used someplace along the line to either make it or deliver it.
A conservationist, on the other hand, utilizes the material, given by God, available on this earth, but as a good steward of the land. I prefer to be a conservationist.

What do these idiots want?  They protest about everything we do to get off of dependency on foreign oil.  They want wind power and such, well have they noticied that they are still saying the same thing that they have always said about developing new things.  That it will be 20 to 30 years down the road from now. Of course they told you the same thing 30 years ago and here we are with no solutions to the energy problems.  Who the hell has ever seen half of the things that they say we are endangering.  Why are they not camping out in China, India, Russia and other places in the world that pollute and such more then we ever do?  Because they would receive a swift kick in the *** out of there is why.  How many enviromentalists are using kerosene lamps, driving horse buggies, living off the land?  Damn few.  Most of them are using way more electricity than you or I do.  No they want to tell you how to live, while they are living the high life.

Right on!  Wind power is expensive and gives very little results.  Solars have bankrupted Spain and are expensive to buy and run and some electric companies will not buy back the excess.  Nuclear has a stupendous reputation with only a handful every killed and 40+ thousands killed by autos every year.  It is clean, efficient and today’s rods are different with no half-life problems as before.  Europe has used them for years safely and efficiently.  Shouldn’t these idiots get real jobs and stay out of our lives and faces with pseudo science and complaints?

These supposedly “greenies” have never had any ideas that helped the environment but always have their hands for money!  I would bet they still use harmful chemicals in their homes, businesses, and offices.  Do they have their own gardens?  Doubt it.  That is all hard work, but they find time to complain about everything.  When I returned to this country, I learned about and started using Shaklee products without chemicals and have done for over 40 years.  We do not use fertilizers in  our garden either.  They want us to do what they want when they do it – example, Al Gore and his expensive waste of everything! yet he made millions on the unwarranted and unsubstantiated (and now proven false) global warming and truly ridiculous cap and trade when we need carbon dioxide to breathe and grow food, and he is still complaining and whining.  Tough!  They need to go to work and stop trying to run our lives.  We have oil reserves here that we are not allowed to use and we need to stop paying outrageous amounts of OUR hard-earned monies to countries that hate us.

There is a new clean energy technology that is 1/10th the cost of dirty coal.  It is going to destroy the Canadian Oil Sands financially – investors are going to lose their shirt.

Don’t believe me? Watch this video by a Nobel prize winner in physics: http://pesn.com/2011/06/23/9501856_Nobel_laureate_touts_E-Cat_cold_fusion/

Still don’t believe me? It convinced the Swedish Skeptics Society: http://www.nyteknik.se/nyheter/energi_miljo/energi/article3144827.ece

LENR using nickel. Incredibly: Ni+H+KCO3(heated under pressure)=Cu+lots of heat.

Still don’t believe me? A major US corporation has bought the rights to sell the 1 megawatt Rossi E-Cat, and it will be announced late October in the US, with the unit hitting the market in November. How can any fossil fuel compete with such cheap energy (and clean to boot!).

By the way, here is a current survey of all the companies that are bringing LENR to commercialization: http://www.cleantechblog.com/2011/08/the-new-breed-of-energy-catalyzers-ready-for-commercialization.html

pypypypy That’s only part of it. Cities have already written regulation that wont allow you to own and use your own. First restriction: In the high desert of So Cal. they banned any new home use wind turbines because of excessive noise. 2nd restriction. Orange County not sure which city has a height restriction that prevents use of wind turbines. I’m sure there are more place that do the same with many more to follow.
As for the big industrial wind turbines they have to be placed so far away from the end user that they loose half the power generated through transmission lines. Not as cost effective as they lead you to believe. Lastly there is a large carbon footprint in manufacturing and shipping and installation assembly.
One other thing they have had a large wind farm near Palm Springs for 30 or 40 years. If it was so great why aren’t there hundreds or thousands of wind farms in America? Could it be they aren’t as economical to use? I don’t have the answer and would like to know. What’s the hold up?

I was not aware of that onewildman.

I hear what you are saying, wind energy is not all that is cracked up to be, and like you said certainly not cost effective at all since they are so far away and too expensive to get to consumers! It is all a big scam. Wind turbines=noise pollution and kills wildlife!

I simply cannot understand the mentality of not wanting to use fossil fuel. even with continuous use of fossil fuel our earth would still be very much alive when generations are no more.

The irony is these so called “green activists” I like to know how much damage they do to Mother Earth with the empty plastic bottles they drink their purified water from.

    onewildman,

You stated succintly, most of the reasons for not having a plethora of wind farms everywhere.

In addition to your reasons, there are other factors that make wind farming non cost effective.

The windiest areas in our country, are for the most part, in isolated wilderness locations.  You stated correctly, that a good part of the electricity produced will be lost to voltage drop resistance, in the lengthly transmission lines needed to bring the power to the grid.

As far as costs go, there is a tremendous additional cost involved, in securing a right-of-way transmission line corridor from the wind farms, to the power grid.  This could cost billions of dollars in land acquision costs.  Of course, Marxist Obummer, could steal all that land, like the railroad barons did in the nineteenth century, but it would probably cause a shooting revolution, with Obummer as the first casualty.

Low resistance, lo-temp superconducting electrical transmission lines are decades way from being practically applied.  The wind props need almost weekly maintanance in high insect areas.  The bugs hit the props, splatter and build up on the leading surfaces, slowing the props and throwing them out of balance.

The heavy weight gearboxes needed to transfer and regulate the prop motion to coincide with generator speed, are made mostly in China, and imported here. (great for U.S. employment)

These trannys perform just like all of the other **** that comes out of China.  The gears self destruct after a while, sometimes catching fire in the process (Bad alloy junk steel) costing hundres of thousands to replace.  GE, the chief importer will make millions on replacements.

All in all, wind power will probably cost five to ten times what fossil fuel electricity costs to generate.  Many times more than that if you compare to hydroelectric or nuclear power generation.

The U.S. has enough Oil, Clean Coal, Natural Gas and Oil Shale to last over a thousand years.
Hitler (back in the 1930′s even) made gasoline out of COAL.  We want to go to the moon and mars but we can’t do (better even) what Adolph did 80-90 years ago?  It’s no wonder we have to outsource our jobs overseas!
