Patton: From Roe vs. Wade to West Philadelphia

By Doug Patton

It was morbidly appropriate that the very week when our nation was observing the sad anniversary of the infamous 1973 Roe vs. Wade Supreme Court decision, which created a constitutional right to slaughter unborn babies, a macabre story broke about the discovery of an abortion mill officials are describing as a "house of horrors."

Over the past three decades, Kermit Gosnell, 69, has raked in millions of dollars in blood money running his own little genocidal killing factory out of a run-down storefront in a poor West Philadelphia neighborhood. Gosnell, who is black, specialized in murdering the babies of blacks, immigrants and other poor women.

Three decades. And no one knew? Please.

In fact, this butcher was known far and wide as the "doctor" who would provide late term abortions for minority women. And yet, the authorities were shocked at the gruesome evidence found in the "clinic" — bags, bottles and other containers throughout the place filled with the human remains of murdered babies.

Gov. Ed Rendell, who left office earlier this month, said he was "flabbergasted." Incoming Gov. Tom Corbett has ordered a thorough investigation as to why state and local agencies did not discover Gosnell's activities before now.

Gosnell is being charged with murder. But why? Wasn't he just helping poor women exercise their right to choose? Out of all the abortionists in America, why is this particular ghoul being singled out for scrutiny? What has he been doing differently than Leroy Carhart in Nebraska or the late George Tiller in Kansas? Two things.

First, a pregnant woman died while in this man's "care." According to the district attorney's office, Gosnell is facing a charge of murder in the third degree for the death of 41-year-old Karnamaya Mongar, who died in November of 2009 after being overdosed by an unlicensed teen-age employee with anesthesia prescribed by Gosnell.

And second, in a turn of events that must surely take the prize for hair-splitting, Gosnell was killing babies outside the womb. Unlike, Tiller and Carhart, whose practices performed what have come to be known as partial birth abortions, Gosnell found an easier way to kill babies late in their term.

In a partial birth abortion (frequently done in the eighth or ninth month of pregnancy), the abortionist reaches into the womb with a pair of forceps, grabs hold of the child's feet, pulls him/her feet-first out of the womb and — while the baby's head is still partially in the birth canal — kills the infant by stabbing him/her in the base of the skull and — while he/she kicks and squirms for the last time — sucks out the baby's brain with a vacuum hose.

This procedure is now illegal in all fifty states, thanks to a Republican Congress, former President George W. Bush and a rational Supreme Court, which found that the federal ban on this barbaric practice was, in fact, constitutional.

But for many years, this ghastly method of destroying children was perfectly legal. Gosnell, who is not even licensed to perform abortions, apparently found it easier to simply induce labor, deliver a live baby and then cut his/her spinal chord with a pair of scissors. "Snipping," he called it.

So my questions are these: Why was it wrong all those years for Gosnell to do what he has been doing, and yet other late term abortionists across the country went about their grisly business with impunity? And now that it has been declared illegal to perform partial birth abortions, why is it still legal to perform late term abortions in any other manner? And if it is wrong to perform an abortion in the third trimester, is it somehow right to destroy that same life a month earlier?

Early in her tenure, before she ran off the rails in the direction of the pro-abortion left, former Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor once said that Roe vs. Wade was on an inevitable "collision course with itself." That collision came last week in a "house of horrors" in West Philadelphia.

What seems to be absolutely un real is that a person (man, woman, girl or boy) can cop punishment for life and carry a label for the rest of their life for abusing a child but the law condons murdering an innocent tiny newborn baby and this , so called DR. will never be labled and will never suffer prison because the proceedure is done according to the law of the land.  All I can say is GOD help this DR. or DRS. when they reach final judgement.

No this was not done under the law!  While abortion is allowed (disgustingly) if the child is born alive (breathing) and murdered in the way described in any of the articles I have read, this is the murder of a living breathing human being.  Are you aware that the test for whether a mother has killed her newborn is whether the child took even one breath after birth. Easily discovered during post mortem examination.

This miserable piece of human garbage who calls himself a doctor (The Hippocratic Oath says “first do no harm”) will, if there is any justice in the state of Pennsylvania, spend the rest of his worthless life in prison. I hope all those involved will be tried in the courts, convicted and punished to the fullest extent of the law.

I am not normally a vindictive person and I try to live and let live but you harm a baby, a new born baby, or any other baby (for that matter), I am afraid I can be very very vindictive.  I do hope all of the people (if the monsters really fall into the catagory of PEOPLE), will have to answer for their murderous ways.  It only takes a monster to do what abortionists do.  How can these monsters sleep at night knowing that they were responsible for taking life after life.  I would have horrable  nightmares.

I believe they get sucked into a vortex of evil. For some reason, they cannot stop and say “I’m doing the wrong thing – please forgive me.” They feel there can be no forgiveness, and no way to atone for their horrific actions, and so they simply become more lost, more evil, more sordid.

“When pro-life demonstrators tried to hold a peaceful march in San Francisco on January 22, the anniversary of Roe v. Wade, a pro-abortion crowd not only followed them, shouting to drown them out and hurling insults at them, some sat down in their path to block the march and force them to detour. We are seeing the ugly face of intolerance under the idealistic pretense of protest. We need to recognize it for what it is, even if the media refuse to do so. Above all, we need to see it as a warning of where our society is headed. Whether at home or abroad, if political conflicts are reduced to contests between the wimps and the barbarians, the barbarians are going to win.” –Thomas Sowell

It is the wimpy women who can’t stand the thought of being a mother who protest.
They can’t stand their own selves much less others like children. The strong mothers and grandmothers, fathers and grandfathers will win in the end. I would put my money on them. A lot of far left loonies invest money in gay movies, lawyers, pro-abortionists etc…they do this in hopes of changing our country to a socialist country. Everytime we win  anything it goes a lot further to restoring our country.

This is truly disgraceful and disgusting, but I’m not at all surprised.  Planned Parenthood and the left must be really pleased that the very ugly truth has emerged about what they have been promoting for over fifty years.  This had it’s roots in the 1920′s are a way to control the population of poor blacks and has nothing to do with women’s rights, or other camouflage spewed by the ‘progressives’.  And abortion is a terrible thing to do as a means of birth control … it’s simply put, murder, especially 3rd trimester abortions.

You won’t see a woman who has had an abortion admit it is murder, instead she joins the others who propogate the lies. The women of this country who proudly gave birth to their babies, the men who love their children, even in the womb, they will have to fight this battle. Where has love gone? Has it been bought off? What is wrong with these women? They must be insance to risk the wrath of God for the sake of convenience. No one carrying a child can say that isn’t a child but they do. And yes, life begins between a man and a woman upon conception. How about abortion? Couples are having to go to foreign countries to adopt because of all the red tape our government deems necessary. This big overgrown government has to be stopped!

I had read of this last week and also note that Obama supported ‘partial birth’ abortions. My question is still..what happens when God gets angry? Right now our country is morally bankrupt much more than financially. Christians are being told not to worship here or there yet we see more and more pagan religions being accepted. If 90% of this country is Christian then where are they hiding? Just look at the television shows glorifying every sin in the bible! My vote will be with Mike Huckabee in hopes that sanity and Christian values and morals can be reintroduced into a ‘changed’ society…not Obama’s evil change but one that 90% of this country believe in! One we can be proud to share and leave to our children. One where we can hold our heads high again without guilt.

Women are going to use hangers to remove these babies they simply don’t want lives of the mothers will found dead and if that is what you want this is what will happen.

Have any of you seen the movie THE OTHERSIDE OF MIDNIGHT it was in the theaters in the 1970′s and this will be played out more and more what a horrible thought.

If one child is saved, Carol, it is worth it. You can’t stop suicides but you can stop the murder of innocent babies. We can stop it with laws protecting the babies. Yes, some mothers will use coat hangers, or drown them in the tub, or use a pillow to kill them, and they should go to prison.. If a person who kills a pregnant woman driving on the street goes to prison for murder for an unborn baby then why do abortionists get away with murder? And no it is not their right to kill a baby they carry! They can put it up for adoption after it is born. Don’t have sex if you don’t want a baby that badly. Simple solution. They need to be afraid.

Oh and also, don’t be confused about Sidney Sheldon and go read the book! He was a great author, his books are better than the films, but you confuse his ultra slick writing with the man with the pen in his hand. Just because he writes it doesn’t mean he condones it or the fictional women he creates. That would be like saying Steven King must condone the horrors he writes about and it must all be true. Just goes to show how the left has infiltrated our minds and our children’s minds with their sickness. Just because you see or hear something does not make it a fact.

Forbidding abortions would not stop unprotected sex. It’s the “ideal” situation. But like so much ‘idealism’, it’s just not practical.
For whatever reason, these women don’t want the baby and they don’t want anyone to know they’re pregnant. They’re going to do whatever it takes to remove that fetus. I’m not justifying what this doctor did, but it is safer for these women (who for the most part are still children) to do it safely. In a lot of lower income families, adoption is frowned upon. Those in the welfare system know that babies mean more money and food stamps, so they encourage their daughters to get pregnant. Religion plays a big part into that as well. Abortion is ugly but when it comes to my money, I’d rather not increase the welfare pool.
I would not support anything that would further burden the rest of us to take care of unwanted children. They are the criminal illiterate children flooding our public schools.  We see the results of this all over the country in foster homes. They are the abused and neglected children who just by their predicament are nearly un-adoptable. The older they are, the less chance of adoption they have.
All we can do is educate our daughters and encourage them to wait or at least be safe. They have college and careers to pursue. Hopefully we’ve shown them what a good family is about or at least what they should expect.
The government shouldn’t pay for abortions, but the government shouldn’t be in the health care business anyway. It’s their choice so it’s their responsibility. I don’t want to work my butt off to pay taxes to support anybody who abuses the extorted generosity of this country.

Interesting, I thought RU-486, a.k.a. the Morning After Pill, was supposed to take care of this problem.  There is also a surgical procedure called tubal ligation, which prevents pregnancy.  However, for whatever reason, these woman (and I bet there are more who turn up) were permanently damaged by this doctor.  Sadly, a woman had to die before it came to the notice of the authorities.
Also, does the name Susan Smith ring a bell? Or how about Andrea Yates?  These are women who had children and “removed them” from their lives.
Oddly enough, the concept of adoption has been shoved to the side.   “The baby (child, children) has become an inconvenience, so I will kill him/her/them.” is apparently how the thinking goes.  I thought we had gotten past that as a society, but apparently not.

“A voice was heard in Ramah, Weeping and great mourning, Rachel weeping for her children and she refused to be comforted, because they were no more.” ( Mt. 2:18; Jer. 31:15)

I’m sure THE OTHER SIDE OF MIDNIGHT plays on the emotions just like “An Inconvenient Truth”.  It doesn’t make it general truth.

A woman does not have the moral right to abort a baby, because as soon as the baby begins to grow it is a separate part of the host mother.  It may have a different blood type, different fingerprints, different genes.  She has no more right to have that person killed than she has the right to go to her neighbor’s and stick a knife in her because she’s inconvenienced by the noise her neighbor makes.

Remember “the RIGHT to LIFE, liberty and the pursuit of happiness?”  What is abortion but the stopping of a person’s right to LIFE?

How many ways are there to prevent conception in this present day?  There must be at least 20 if not more.  As usual our liberal government goes at it the wrong way.  What you do is stop funding able-bodied people for not working.  Then you stop paying people on welfare for additional children.  Then you stop making it financially more advantageous to have a family witihout a father.  Then you stop funding schools that do nothing to teach children but keep sucking up more and more money.  Fire teachers and professors who insist on teaching hatred for this country (Ward Churchill is only the skim), classes on sex, if they have nothing to do with their specialty (medicine) or such know-nothing classes as black and women’s studies, etc. (wish I had a syllabus handy).

There’s nothing the government can do about it but it would certainly help things along if churches would get rid of pastors who can only preach hatred towards white people.  Of course, that would mean mainstream churches would have to get off the Liberal track and back on the straight and narrow.

I’m sorry you’re so gullible Carol.  Maybe someday you’ll come to the realization that babies are a gift from God and murdering His gift is throwing it back in His face.

P.S.  You do know that Roe v. Wade was a court decision made by appointed judges, didn’t you?  It was not made into law by our elected legislators.  That reminds me, something should be done about that, too.  Our Supreme Court takes too much upon itself.  Their job is supposed to strictly judge whether a law is constitutional or not.  It’s become a law unto itself.

The Other Side of Midnight was a 1977 movie, based on a 1973 work of FICTION with the same name. It was twisted by the propaganda of the abortionists to make it appear factual. This is exactly how evildoers twist things to make evil seem good.

The Natural Law states that life begins at conception, thus abortion is unnatural. Some Christians will say that the form of breast cancer suffered by women who have had one or more abortions is God’s punishment for having had the abortion(s). As a Catholic Christian, I say that when one violates the Natural Law by committing unnatural acts, nature will defend itself. God simply allows nature to take its course. That is why the Bible and the Church teach that it is a sin to commit an unnatural act. Thus, abortion is evil because it is the sin of murder.

The U.S. Declaration of Independence also recognizes the Natural Law as being valid. As the Declaration states that we are endowed by our Creator with certain unalienable rights, among those being the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, then that would also apply to unbon babies due to recognition of the Natural Law in our Declaration of Independence. Thus, abortion is unconstitutional because the Constitution is based upon the Declaration of Independence. The Fifth Amendment in the Bill of Rights also applies.

CASE IN POINT: I am physically capable of killing someone with my bare hands. So then, if I have the right to choose to do whatever I want with my own body, then I have a right to use my own body to kill you, right? WRONG! The same applies to the killing of an unborn baby a.k.a. abortion. Both are acts of murder.

Following the above logic, and the example in my case in point, the argument in favor of abortion unravels very quickly indeed! The only acceptable reason for abortion is to save the life or the physical health of the mother, provided that labor is induced and all reasonable measures are taken to save the baby as well, once the baby is outside the womb.

We have to save the children of this country. If they make it into this world because a woman decided their life might be worthy enough to birth them, they have to be careful of the child molesters running in the streets because judges won’t do their jobs and Eric Holder can’t take a few minutes to begin the system that he has been repeatedly asked to start that identifies child rapists across the country so the police can keep an eye on them. Oh yes, Michelle thanks a lot for telling us our obese kids don’t need to eat fries, how about doing something that could save their lives, like tell Eric to do his job?

I am sure that Mr. Patton is a believer that this nation is governed by laws.  Although the article referenced is against the law, not all abortion is.  It is accepted legal evidence that a fetus cannot survive before the end of the first trimester.  If the fetus cannot survive, it is not a human being recognized by American law.  Since that is true, a first trimester abortion is not illegal.
If the true American believers would accept that argument, there would be little opposition between pro-choice and pro-life.  Those that do not, cannot accept America as a land of laws.

Purposely killing any fetus regardless of its self sustainability is a crime against humanity.   The same courts/people that condemn the killer of a wanted unborn child think it is OK to allow the killing of an unwanted unborn child.

Abortionists and their supporters are no different than Adolph Eichmann and the Nazis.  They are the people responsible for the American Holocaust which has already killed 32,000,000 unborn Americans.  All of you will have to answer for your crime someday.

BTW What is a true American believer?  I apply the Constitution to the unborn Americans, while you deprive them of their Constitutional Rights.  You are no less a monster than the abortionists themselves.

Since a child cannot really care for itself untill s/he is much older, should we allow the destruction of a child up until the age when it can fully provide for itself? They would have to be old enough to provide for themselves…maybe 16 years? Up until then it could be regarded as a late term abortion! And since we, as a nation, cannot clearly define the beginning of life, ought we not to err on the side of life, rather than death? This law is an evil one, which people have interpreted as legalizing an act in which there is at least one death.

As has been pointed out, babies (children) cannot survive by themselves until they’re at least 6-7 years of age.  The first trimester is an artificial standard that means nothing.

Are you not aware that all abortion was against the law before Roe v. Wade?  You’re asking those who believe abortion to be murder to agree to just a little bit of murder!

BARRETT SAYS, “It is accepted legal evidence that a fetus cannot survive before the end of the first trimester.  If the fetus cannot survive, it is not a human being recognized by American law.
I AND THE MAJORITY IN THIS LAND, CHALLENGE THAT LAW. IT WAS WRITTEN BY A FEW SUPREME COURT JUSTICES WHO GREATLY OVERSTEPPED THE BOUNDS OF THEIR JURISDICTION. THE CONGRESS WHICH REPRESENTS THE PEOPLE, AND IS RESPONSIBLE FOR WRITING LAW – NEVER PASSED SUCH AN AFFRONT TO HUMAN DIGNITY. EVEN IF THEY HAD, IT WOULD BE WRONG, JUST LIKE THE LAWS THAT PREVENTED BLACK PEOPLE FROM HAVING EQUALITY.  JUST BECAUSE IT WAS LEGALLY RIGHT ACCORDING TO THE LAW, TO DENY BLACKS EQUAL RIGHTS, DID NOT MEAN IT WAS MORALLY RIGHT. TO THE CONTRARY. MANY LAWS IN MANY LANDS ARE UNJUST AND IT IS UP TO THE PEOPLE TO FIGHT BRAVELY TO OVERTURN SUCH LAWS.
YOU SAY, ” THOSE THAT DO NOT, CANNOT ACCEPT AMERICA AS A LAND OF LAWS.” We are supposed to be a land with laws WRITTEN BY REPRESENTATIVES OF THE PEOPLE, NOT JUDICIAL ACTIVISTS, WHO REPRESENT NO ONE AND ARE ACTING OUTSIDE THEIR GIVEN POWERS.

No bigbear just like after they are born the unborn child must be protected by it’s mother. Our society has reached the point where certain mothers have lost their maternal instinct which even a cat has more of. And why isn’t a father asked if he wants her to abort? Why did that not become a law as well?  If he causes her to have a miscarriage he will go to prison for murder, yet his child can be murdered before it is born. As for laws, we want this one changed. Your body becomes more than just your own body when you become pregnant you become responsible for another person inside of you and any woman who has become pregnant knows this. Well, actually anyone knows this.

I would like to respond both to this horror and to the comment by Eve that no women who has an abortion considers it murder. As a young women I was the victim of a rape that left me pregnant and thousands of miles away from home. I was not a believer in God at the time and allowed my fears and threats by a military superior force me into an abortion. That was 37 years ago. I suffered from severe depression for over 25 years and still have nightmares about the abortion. When I came to a belief in God several years later I felt the guilt and shame of knowing that I took part in the ending of a human life. I know and recognize that this horror at any point in a pregnancy is murder although I did not see it that way at the time. It has now been recognized that the vast majority of women who choose abortion suffer from a condition called Post Abortion Syndrome with symptions very similar to PTSD. Abortion always has more casualities than just the child. Many of women who choose abortion turn into the walking wounded and many end up with substance abuse problems. I was fortunate in finally knowing that God had forgiven me and I could forgive myself but I am and will remain the rest of my life committed to ending the murder of the unborn. We need to be the advocates for the unborn and protect their right to live.

God bless and keep you strong Sweetheart. I have tears in my eyes reading your post because my very best childhood friend was forced into abortion by her mother. She aborted twins. Years later she had twins and told me she felt it was the two that she had aborted. The reprecussions of abortion are horrific for mothers and it is just unnatural. I tell my children at a certain age that there is one gift God has given us and to cherish and respect  it. Life. I am so sorry you have had to go through this but there is a reason for everything. God has forgiven you and if you save one mother from aborting her child you can rest well knowing you are making a difference and that child lives. What is scary to me is that we are all products of our times whether we mean to be or not. Those of us who are awake must pass our knowledge to the young or they will be lost. The future generations will have to carry this battle on and pass it on, ever viligent to the evil in the world.

May God continue to bless you, and help you to tell others that they can be forgiven also. The aborted children are comforted and loved now, by God Himself – and no more harm can come to them. They will be reunited with their mothers in heaven – and you (the mother) shall still have the chance, when you arrive there, to embrace them.
      God bless.
      Never lose heart.

Today there are HUNDREDS of THOUSANDS of people in Washington, D.C. protesting against the 1973 Roe vs Wade decision that has killed OVER 50 MILLION BABIES! Will we see any of this on TV or hear about it in the media?? The only place that is covering it is EWTN TV. There were many pro-life Congressmen speaking at the March for Life, but our great leader, Obama was not anywhere to be found. This “doctor” who butchered babies and destroyed women is being charged with murder. Why is it we give Obama a pass, when HE would not even vote for helping babies that were born alive after an abortion, to be left in hospital dirty utility rooms to die?? Abortion is the killing of innocent babies from the MOMENT of conception!
Votes have consequences, and we’ve seen the horrors of abortion for 38 years in the USA! It kills babies and destroys women physically and emotionally. The Democratic Party has become THE PARTY OF DEATH and they are destroying the USA. Wake up America!

Obama was found saying how this is a such a wonderful day since Roe vs Wade gives women the right to choose and go on to follow their dreams etc..blah, blah, blah…how about the dreams of the unborn child? Maybe an Einstien or great Maestro was murdered  so that a woman is free to go ‘do her thing’. How selfish. But of course our great leader understands selfishness very well.

How many babies have not been allowed to be born or live since this decision was made to spill the blood of America’s innocent?  How many little souls have we sent back to our creator? I don’t know if he cares much whether it occurred in a pasture or a sterile operating  room. But I do know this, each one has been counted and each little soul will have a voice at the appointed time. At that time America and it’s people will bear great shame. No excuses, no justification, not how many days along, not how much was out of the womb, only shame.  God help us….please.

This guy is nothing more than a serial killer. While I am opposed to the preactice of abortion, I believe the Fourth Amendment protects the right of a woman to chose. I do not however believe that the Fourth Amendment supports the ability of a doctor to perform abortions  The Roe decision was just more judicial activism like the Mirranda decision. There is no support for either opinion in the Constutution. At any rate, this doctor is a goul. He truly has the blood of hundreds on his hands and he should be executed by sticking a sharp object into the base of his neck because he was committing murder because once a baby is born it is considered “quick” or alive under the common law so this goul should die and go straight to hell.

      To JimW and meanmom,
We’ve seen the outcome of “birth control”……more and more abortions and sexually transmitted diseases! Planned Parenthood (doing sex-education in schools) wants to brainwash our children to have sex anywhere, anytime, with anyone…..just take the pill or use a condom. And if that doesn’t work, they’re happy to do an abortion….and the cycle repeats and Planned Parenthood is making millions of $$$. Well the sad truth is it just leads to a depravity of sex, sex, sex. Teaching our children (and most adults) that abstinence until marriage is THE ONLY truth and the only way to stop the slaughter of thousands of babies and return to a more moral country!

You ARE aware the US Government gave PP over $360,000,000 last year.  The US should not be funding any operation like PP, period.  This is disgraceful, since most Americans think abortion should not be easy to obtain and the circumstances limited.

People’s conscience are seared and they haven’t a clue about God, life or love.  Maybe if the Christians will get to work and spread the gospel of Jesus like we are to do then maybe, just maybe some of this mess we are in will change. The Church is asleep, Wake up Church, get on your knees and pray and fight this battle in the spirit where it is raging first, then we can win in the flesh. Praise be to God.

Eve, that was Margaret Sanger and she’s the Sained Mother of Planned Parenthood.  She believed black people to be sub-par in intelligence so therefore their gene pool should be lowered.  She believed in eugenics, too, so also believed that any who were sub-par in intelligence or physically should not be allowed to live.  Too many people back then believed in it, more’s the pity.  Hitler, also a believer in eugenics did hit the heights in his belief but the rest of the world didn’t think so much of it so the beloved Margaret Sanger was left to carry on the work, which she passed on to Planned Parenthood.
