The Arizona Civil Defense League has just sent out an email letting people know that some Republican state senators are considering voting against SB1214. This bill will allow concealed carry weapon (CCW) permit holders to carry weapons on public college and university campuses.
People, such as John Lott, who have extensively research gun violence issues have concluded that gun-free zones are more dangerous because criminals know that law abiding citizens in those areas have no firearms to protect themselves with. The best way to protect students, faculty, and staff at public universities and colleges is to give law abiding people who live and work at them and have passed required CCW training the right to bear arms for protecting themselves and others around them.
The Pachyderm Coaltion, a Reagan Republican political group, has this bill on their legislator evaluation system as one that Republicans should definitely vote for. The evaluation can be found at http://www.pachydermcoalition.com/Legislative--Report.html
