NEW YORK (UPI) — Fox News anchor Megyn Kelly and GOP front-runner Donald Trump met privately at Trump Tower on Wednesday, Kelly said on her show hours later.
Kelly was spotted entering Trump tower in New York City Wednesday morning by NBC new reporters.
Kelly said on her show the meeting was at her request in an effort to bury the hatchet between the two of them. And to get an interview.
“We met for about an hour, just the two of us, and had a chance to clear the air,” Kelly said. “Mr. Trump and I discussed the possibility of an interview. And I hope we will have news to announce on that soon.”
Trump has repeatedly criticized Kelly since she asked him a tough question during a debate last year about many of the negative things he has said about women. Kelly has mostly kept mum on the issue.
Trump spoke on Sean Hannity’s Fox show later, telling Hannity that Kelly was “very, very nice.”
“Maybe it was time. By the way, in all fairness, I give her a lot of credit” for seeking the meeting, Trump said. He wouldn’t say if the agreed to an interview with Kelly.
Fox released a statement about the meeting earlier in the day and tried to diffuse the tension.
“Kelly has acknowledged in recent interviews that Trump is a fascinating person to cover and has electrified the Republican base,” the statement read.
